SPACIOUS, SECLUDED, RIDGETOP VIEW RETREAT

Point Reyes Station House Rental Photos and Description

A large four bedroom, two and one-half bath home

In a setting of stately oak, bay and pine trees, on Inverness Ridge overlooking the hills of West Marin, this quintessentially California home has until recently been exclusively a family sanctuary. It boasts a wonderful great room with chef's kitchen, a dining table that will seat 10, and a living area with a wood burning fireplace. There are multiple nooks for curling up with a book, playing cards and board games, birdwatching, and admiring sunrises and sunsets over Tomales Bay, Elephant Mountain and the hills beyond. Fox Ridge has spacious grounds, with multiple large decks, hammocks, and picnic tables. The master suite is at one end of the home, and three additional bedrooms share a second full bath. A powder room is located near the main entrance. This home is a perfect base for exploring the many beautiful hiking trails and beaches of the Point Reyes National Seashore, and is a short drive from its Bear Valley Visitor Center. Beyond the Point Reyes Penninsula, San Francisco and the wine country of Napa and Sonoma, and many other attractions are within an hour's reach. Fox Ridge was designed by renowned architect Jim Campe, and is one of the most well appointed homes of its size in West Marin.

The master suite has a queen-sized bed, a second bedroom has a double bed, and the two additional bedrooms each have two twin beds. There are also two sleeping lofts for adventerous children or agile adults.

For larger parties, Fox Ridge may be rented together with the adjacent Fox Haven, a smaller home that can accomodate 2-4 persons.

This home was designed for the owners by renowned architect Jim Campe, a leader in sustainable building practices who studied under and later taught and worked with Sim Van Der Ryn.

Fox Ridge is a peaceful and versatile space that has successfully hosted family gatherings, reunions of old friends, and retreats, strategy sessions, and workshops for organizations. Writers, artists, and visionaries of all kinds find plenty of space for individual work, but can also come together in larger meetings and breakout sessions. The Inverness Ridge setting is tranquil, but very close to the restaurants, shops, galleries, and markets of Point Reyes Station, Olema, and Inverness. Hikers can acess some of the Point Reyes National Seashore trails right from the front door. Other nearby state and county parks offer visitors lovely walking trails (a few wheelchair accessible) to explore the Tomales Bay Ecological Reserve, Papermill Creek, and redwood forests. Foodies and locavores will delight in the opportunity to tour artisanal cheese makers, picnic at the Drake's Bay Oyster Company, and enjoy the range-fed meats at Marin Sun Farms.

WONDERFUL ACCESSIBLE WEEKEND

  • 5 of 5
We stayed with our son who is in a wheelchair. The ramp to the house from the parking area worked well. The Big Room was ideal for a wheelchair, with lots of space to move around. One bedroom was accessible. The bathroom next to it was a little tight but manageable. The master bedroom and bath were both easily accessible. The porch off the Big Room was a wonderful place to have meals and to watch the birds.

PEFECT!

  • 5 of 5
We absolutely loved staying in this beautifully designed and decorated home. The furniture, books, and artwork appear to be from travels from all over the world. We gathered for our mother in law's 70th birthday and it was simply perfect for all three generations. The indoor space is clean and spacious. . . the outdoor space is quite incredible with very inviting decks and a swing set that the kids loved using. The house has incredibly expansive views and is ideally located, about 3 minutes from town. Sally, the property manager was also extremely helpful and a joy to work with. Thank you all around for letting us stay in this incredible home!

OVER AND BEYOND

  • 5 of 5
I recently stayed at the house with 5 friends and we were thrilled that this house was even better in person than in the pictures. When we opened the door we were all in awe of the open living area with a wood burning fireplace, windows and decks showing off the spectacular views of the valley and hills. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen that was stocked better than most private homes. The bed rooms were all cozy and comfortable. The owners left us a sweet welcome of cheese and fruit and let us know they were nearby if we needed anything or had any questions. I hope to have an opportunity to rent this home again in the future.

BEAUTIFUL FAMILY RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful family gathering here--two families with small children and their grandmother with her two sisters. I am a bit of an architectural snob, and what I loved about the house is that it is exquisitely designed AND relaxed and comfortable. It is situated beautifully, with views from every room of the surrounding trees and Tomales Bay and the hills beyond. The grounds are lovely too, with several areas terraced into the landscape for relaxing (including picnic tables, chairs, and a swing). The property manager was very helpful before and after our stay; she anticipated many issues and was very responsive. Can't wait to stay there again someday!

RELAXING HOLIDAY RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
As a mini retreat for family that we were not going to be with over the holidays we had a wonderful stay in this home as well as its guest house. Both accommodations were exactly as pictured and very welcoming. You can sense immediately that this place is joyful.

Our multi-generational family found numerous things to enjoy -- watching an important football game on cable TV, an electric keyboard for a caroling warm up, a lovely fireplace, a variety of board games and enough books to please us all for a month! The grounds are spacious and offer privacy. The decks have plenty of built-in seating to enjoy the views, which are panoramic and beautiful.

One of the nicest things for the my in-laws, was, that when they had enough of the kids, they could simply head off to the guest cottage, which is also well appointed. It has its own deck, which affords yet another angle on the serene views.

My husband is interested in holding a business retreat at Fox Ridge. I am dreaming of another week's stay in summer.

Many thanks!
