We are a family of six who live in San Francisco. Kenwood is our country escape. Our kids learned to swim, ride a bike, play tennis, run a trail, hike, putt, plant a garden and fall in love with nature because of this place. We are sport enthusiasts so the property is set up to entertain my triathalon husband as well as his outdoor loving family. It is casual and comfortable yet with all of life's luxuries!
My husband grew up in Portland, ME and graduated from Harvard. I grew up in Sunnyvale, CA and graduated from UC Berkeley and Stanford Business School. Our two boys are at Town School and our two girls attend Hamlin.
For us, Kenwood is magical.

We wanted to find a place where we could escape the City, experience nature and spend time as a family. The property has a beautiful feel to it-- It is the perfect set-up for multiple families and we have many friends whose kids feel they have grown up in Kenwood. The house was built with wood and stone from the property. It is simple in the best of ways yet stocked with all the luxuries you want.
-Borders 50 mile of hiking and running trails in Annendale State Park. Access to trailhead from the property. World class mountain biking, hiking and running.
-The most beautiful 25 yard pool
- Secluded and private yet 10 minutes from first class wineries and restaurants.
-Comfortably sleeps 12-14 people
-Hand built stone fireplace is the perfect place to read a book
-Stunning oak trees, garden, visiting wild turkey and deer
-The truth pit- (aka firepit)
- A night sky like no other!
We were part of a group that recently stayed at the Kenwood home for an event in the Santa Rosa area. The home was centrally located in Sonoma County and our group spent time in Healdsburg, Sonoma, Glen Ellyn, and other great spots. We're told great hiking was very near the property but did not get a chance this visit. The owner and property manager were responsive in advance of our stay, treated us very well, and the house and property were as promised.
The highlight of the property is undoubtedly the outdoor space - the pool, hot tub, sport court, fire pit, bocce ball etc... gave our group lots of great options during down time.
The interior of the home was comfortable and there was plenty of room for our group of 15 adults. The dining area was great for group dinners and the kitchen was fully functional for meal prep / food storage. We found the interior a bit dated, but overall had a great experience.
It's difficult to find a property that can sleep a large group of people, offer a break from The City and provide plenty of amenities (full bocce court, tennis court, basketball hoops, pool, jacuzzi, bordering Annadel State Park, etc.) to occupy said group of Generation Y'ers, and their short attention spans. But, this property easily covered all bases. In scouring the internet for lodging for our company reatreat, we fortunately landed upon this place. Laura and Linda were very accommodating; working with our scheduling requests not to mention, coming to the rescue by immediately resolving an internet issue we were experiencing (we're a tech company who relies on internet to function). Long story short: a great place in Sonoma, which offers pretty much whatever you're looking for.
We were in the area for our daughter's wedding, and made it a family gathering/vacation for the week leading up to the wedding. Our group included multiple families; aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents - the house is perfect for this kind of get together - plenty of room, great outdoor spaces, the pool, the hot tub, we didn't want to leave! It was SO much nicer than living out of a hotel room, we were all relaxed and happy leading up to the event. No stress, in fact, quite the opposite.
Some of our party went ballooning, and everyone had fun wine tasting at various wineries - teenagers had fun shopping in Napa, others went out jogging, hiking nearby trails and birding, so there is as much to do, or as little, as you wish. Just sitting by the pool and watching the deer and their fawns, the wild turkeys and rabbits, foxes and squirrels was entertainment by itself, and we loved it. (And everyone in our party was composing their own rave reviews while we were there, :))
The pictures are nice, and as mentioned in other reviews, cannot do the place justice. It's very comfortable, easy care, casual, secluded, peaceful - loved cooking on the Wolf stove, love the vaulted ceilings, the fireplace, the huge dining table, bbq-ing on the deck, the outdoor showers were a big hit! There were many thoughtful touches; when we needed something, it was right where you needed it.
It's also remarkably conveniently located. We were minutes from the Kunde Winery. The Santa Rosa Charles M. Schulz (yes, Peanuts) Airport is close by for family members who were flying in, the nearby markets were delightful, we really had everything we needed readily available.
From the very first contact with Laura, to meeting Linda and the caretakers - I just can't say enough - you made us feel welcome, you have a wonderful place, and made what was a great week for us even better. I highly recommend this place, and if you're in town for a wedding, I recommend staying for the week, and making a family vacation out of it.
We had a wonderful time at this property. Kids and adults alike enjoyed the great pool area, spa, sport court and lawn in a quiet, secluded and beautiful setting. The comfortable house has everything you need and is great in its simplicity. The owner and manager were responsive and friendly. Highly recommend this spot for 2 to 4 families looking for a place to enjoy a lot of outdoor time together.
We were completely delighted by the location, the facilities and the support we received in making the most of this opportunity. Three days was enough for us to achieve our goals - but not long enough to appreciate the variety of activities and to explore the local area enough. It was a pure delight to stay her as a team. Waking up and going for a swim, roasting marshmallows by the fire, comfy beds and great spaces for getting work down as a group - excellent! We look forward to coming back. Thank you so much for having us!
We recently stayed at the Kenwood property with a college reunion group of 14. The house and grounds were amazing and more than accommodated our large group, which is very difficult to find in the area. The outdoor setup was fantastic! We found it hard to leave and get out for some of the activities we had planned. The sport court, pool, bocce court and fire pit were a hit and we found ourselves migrating from one outdoor activity to the next. The house was also very comfortable and felt like home. Lots of space. The owners and care takers were very accommodating - lots of little touches we have yet to see from other VRBOs we have stayed in. The only problem was that we didn't want to leave! Will definitely be back!
