A beautiful apartment - exactly as described, very clean and nicely furnished.
(apart from the bathroom lock, which kept falling off and trapping the occupant inside).
FINDING IT, HOWEVER, WAS ANOTHER MATTER.
The owners knew we were pensioners, arriving by car and suggested Google Maps
- they turned out to be next to useless. This old walled town has a central pedestrianised area, surrounded by limited vehicle access ( one way streets ) which to maps do not show. The recommended free parking outside the walls is a damn site more walking than the 7 - 8 mins as mentioned. What they do not tell you is that if you enter the town via the Porta S. Elisa Gate, metered parking is very close to the apartment - Not so far to drag those heavy suitcases !
If only the owners took the trouble to post you a Tourist Map, at the time of booking, on which all parking areas are clearly shown, our journey woould have been a lot less stressful. As we were lost on arrival, I phoned Sonia who suggested that we should get a taxi from our metered car park. What she did't say was where the taxi rank was or that the telephone number had nobody who spoke English. Finally arriving after 40mins walk (with suitcases) and a lot of friendly directions, we were met by Sonia but she spent most of her short time with us explaining which days to put the rubbish out. She offered no recommendations as to good restaurants, things to do or where the nearest grocery store was. The cupboards were totally bare - previous reviews of a welcome bottle of wine and snack, hospitality and helpfulness were not afforded to us.
Having had my little moan - Lucca is delightful ( try their fillet steaks ! ) and we would recommend it as a 'Must See' destination.
Owner's Response: Your experience sounds terrible. There would have been no reason for me to make your stay not as for the other guests. We paied lot of care and attention to provide you with maps, address, written directions in english to walk to the apartment in 5 mins from the parking (I cannot figure out how it can take 40 mins as mentioned in the review), leaflets of places to see and where to eat and shopping and our availability over the phone for any of your needs. All of this was provided both on the papers (written) and when speaking at your arrival. I wish you would have paied more attention during our meeting as I feel this review not to be adequate to the service that we provide.
