Photos and Description of the Interlochen vacation cottage rental

Looking for a quiet get-a-way? Simple and cozy, this lake-view cabin will help you create family memories.

A family owned cottage for over 35 years, this is the place to relax. Simple, but cozy, the cottage offers a gentle get-a-way from your busy life. There is a large living space with a combined kitchen, dining and living area that allows easy family gatherings. The fireplace provides an inviting setting in the evenings and the large, bright, enclosed porch is a perfect spot for dining while enjoying a view of the lake. Three bedrooms off the living area (two with a double bed, one with a single bed) plus a sleeper sofa (on the screened in porch) provide comfortable sleeping for 5-7 people. Pets are OK, but no smoking, please.

The cottage is situated on a large shaded corner lot, right across from local community park that is available for picnic gatherings or a game of baseball or volleyball.

Lake access is less than a minute walk away through the neighborhood association’s private community park where you will find a 300 foot waterfront area that includes a 30 foot swim dock in a roped off area with a sandy bottom.

Not far away, you will find the Interlochen Center for the Arts (1.3 miles away) where you can enjoy world class performances of music, plays, dance and art exhibitions as well as free concerts from local musicians Two grocery stores are less than a five minute drive away and Traverse City (a 15 minutes drive) will provide you with all the amenities of a big city.

The Traverse City area has a wealth of places to explore, from old lighthouses, to wineries, tall ships, bike trails, canoeing, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes (the dune run is something not to miss!), the Cherry Bowl Drive-in Theater (straight out of the 1950s!) and don't forget the National Cherry Festival in July!

About Art or Becky

As a city girl from Pittsburgh, PA, Michigan was my summer home. My parents bought the home as a summer get away, a place to enjoy the music of The Interlochen Center for the Arts, spend time with family and just relax. I began bringing my children to Michigan when they were babies and they have since grown, attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts and I have been able to share my favorite activities with them; from swimming in the lake, boating, beach campfires, and of course attending Interlochen events. We currently live in Colorado, but we always try to get back to Interlochen every summer.

Why Art or Becky chose Interlochen

This cottage has been in the family for over 35 years. For over three generations we have enjoyed family reunions and vacations. Start your own tradition and bring your family up to norther Michigan for a holiday.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is a great gathering place. Its large kitchen-dining-living area welcomes people to relax and socialize. The large screened in porch offers a perfect spot for an evening meal or a cool spot to sleep while being serenaded by the lake loons.

Fantastic Weekend Get-Away!

5 of 5
Submitted: September 11, 2012 Stayed: September 2012
This property provided a comfortable, accomodating experience for our Labor Day trip up north. Everything was well-maintained; the cozy bedrooms, comfortable living room and enclosed porch elicited a "home away from home" feeling after trying to scale the dune at Sleeping Bear or taking in some wine on Old Mission Peninsula. It's also just a 5 minute drive or so to Bud's Ice Cream & Coffee, Interlochen's excellent all-purpose cafe/sandwich/ice cream shop. If you have a vehicle, I absolutely recommend this property as a relaxing central point for your northwest Michigan adventure!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are glad you were able to enjoy the area. The local flavor of Bud's and the Interlochen music camp add a relaxed feel to the area and the wineries a note of sophistication. Hope you are able to return soon.

Excellent Location

5 of 5
Submitted: September 4, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
I found the cottage to look much better than the pictures. Although it's a cozy cottage, it was perfect for our group of 6 and found the main room to be spacious enough for group activity. When Becky says full kitchen, she means it! Not just plates and utensils, you will also find a microwave, coffee maker, and some spices and condiments for whatever you decide to cook. The location was perfect for our group because we were able to enjoy relaxing at the cabin and also go sightseeing in Traverse City. The beaches and lakes around the area (including Sleeping Bear Dunes) were exactly what we were looking for. The vineyards were not far away either, so you have a good variety of activities to do within a 15-45 minute drive. Both the property owner and the property manager are friendly, accommodating, and really went out of their way to make us feel at home. All in all, I would definitely recommend this cottage. It's a great price and great location.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and had a chance to explore the surrounding area. The Traverse City area is truly a gem. Hope you can come visit again soon.

A lovely spot for a family vacation

Submitted: August 28, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
The cottage was clean and comfortable, and very well located in a peaceful neighborhood by Green Lake. We enjoyed swimming in the lake, hiking at Sleeping Bear Dunes, kayaking in the Crystal River (near Glen Arbor) and visiting Traverse City.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay and got a chance to relax at the cottage and have a chance to explore the surrounding area. Northern Michigan has so much to offer. Hope to see you again.

A Rustic Cabin almost on Green Lake

4 of 5
Submitted: July 15, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
Great value!! Three small bedrooms, one great open room, combo living, dinning, kitchen. Very nice screened in porch. Three houses down from beach access, but swimmers itch was a real issue. Windows need some updating and doors/locks all stuck a little. Property manager was very helpful, friendly and right across the road. Owner was easy to contact with quick replies and was upfront with the rustic nature of the property. Slight smell of mildew, pretty normal for a lake house cottage. Would stay again and would recommend to friends.
Recommended for:  Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children
Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive review. It is such a pleasure to have others enjoy the cottage I grew up with. We had planned to check into updating our windows this fall and will look into the locks sticking as well. Thank you for your comments. We hope to have you visit again.
