Baby Orsetto - perfect for Rome Vacation

  • 5 of 5
We stayed 8 great nights in Baby Orsetto.
The bedroom was very spacious with plenty of room for hang up clothes as well as dresser/folding clothes. The bed was bigger than a queen and very comfortable. I believe that the bedroom is bigger than most in the area. All wood floors in bedroom and everywhere else.
The bathroom was very nice and again spacious. Having a tub and shower (handheld) was a nice feature, but need to remember to keep the wall switch “on” for the water heater.
Kitchen was small, with convenience fridge, microwave, gas stove, small dishwasher and plenty of utensils, dishes and pots/pans. We did not cook much so the kitchen was a place for small breakfast items, pop, etc. The laundry machine worked fine, once we figured out how to use it. The manual is in Italian of course, but a little internet search and we washed several times. The apartment has a clothes rack that if we laid out wet clothes one day, the next they would be dry. What a luggage room saver to know that you can do laundry.
Family room was big with slightly dated furniture, but comfortable. The big glass doors open up to a railing with great views and nice breezes. The TV was there, but when you are busy eating, shopping, sightseeing and living like a Roman, who has time to watch TV broadcast in Italian?
The elevator is easy to use and gets to actually higher than you need to go, but due to building elevation differences, you have to go down a set of stairs (easy) to get to Baby Orsetto. No problem.
Dealing with Fillippo and his staff of Lavinia and Iryna was splendid and they are easy to do business with. They could be reached any time by phone or email.
We explored all of Rome using buses and footpower to get everywhere. I would and will recommend this apartment to anyone travelling to Rome and would stay there again.

Fantastic place in central Rome

  • 5 of 5
The apartment was very comfortable, clean with everything required for a long stay and above all it was stunningly quiet. Between the air conditioning and the double shutters and the fact that the bedroom faces the side street, the apartment managed to be located on the circus of the Piazza Navona and still be comfortable for sleeping. The views from the apartment windows onto the Piazza (the river Ganges is the one you see on Bernini's fountain) and over the roofs to St. Ivo's cupola are simply beautiful. I would recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a central location in Rome. My only suggestion would be to leave a written list of the markets and other services in the neighborhood in the apartment. It took me too long to realize that the Despar market had a back door entrance onto the Piazza Massimi right in back of the apartment. The Carrefour on Governo Vecchio is better but it is much farther away. Also Fornaio which is nearby is a good place for baked goods. Finally, the photos are completely accurate but they understate the comfort and ease of the apartment. This is one fabulous place to stay.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5
We loved our stay in this huge apartment. There was so much room it was lovely to spread out. It is in an excellent location right on Piazza Novona! With a supermarket around the corner we cooked a few delicious meals in the kitchen but also enjoyed the many restaurants right on our doorstep. It was so close to everything and we enjoyed walking to all major attractions. Also enjoyed the excellent aircon on some very hot days. Used washing machine, internet and huge wardrobes to hang clothes and put things away.Nice to get out of the suitcase for a week.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone.
The only negative things were that there was a noisy couple who would sing or talk most nights down on the street in the wee small hours. (not sure if they were restaurant owners or locals enjoying themselves) They did wake us up but with lots of walking all day we soon drifted off again. My biggest disappointment was that the building was surrounded by scaffolding and we couldn't open any of the shutters leaving it a bit dark inside with no view. We bumped into Filippo as he has another apartment in the building and he said he had no choice in the restoration. I guess it is only temporary (not sure how long) but it would have been nice to be advised of this.
If the scaffolding is down-book it. You'll love it!

Superb Apartment, the Best in Rome

  • 5 of 5
This apartment is unbeatable if it is within your size and cost needs. We stayed here for five weeks in Sept-Oct 2013. The apartment is very large especially by European standards. Everything was very clean and in excellent working order. The air conditioning worked well. The pictures on the web are accurate. There are doors separating each room so an early riser need not disturb the others. The bathroom has the handheld shower head, but it has a full shower curtain so water doesn’t spray all over the bathroom when you shower.

The kitchen is small but functional. In our five weeks, we ate many light meals in the apartment. We used the refrigerator and microwave the most. There is no oven. We washed clothes which worked fine. There is no dryer, but clothes on the drying rack were completely dry the next day. The best part of meals was sitting at the table with the floor-to-ceiling windows open facing toward Piazza Navona. There are many good, reasonably priced restaurants in this area just a few blocks away from the tourist places on Piazza Navona.

The Internet worked well throughout our stay. We watched a few episodes of our favorite US shows over the Internet, and used Facetime to talk to our daughter and her family, and it worked fine. If you need to print some tickets, there is a store called Internet Point nearby that provides computer printing. There is no phone.

We are used to a king size bed, and this bed is not quite that large, but it is larger than a US queen size. The bed is extremely comfortable. There is some night street noise everywhere in Rome. It is minimal here because the apartment is on the 4th floor and because the bedroom window faces on to a side street, not directly toward Piazza Navona as in the living room.

We felt very secure here. The sturdy front door of the apartment has a large multi-bolt lock. Also there is a doorman / concierge (Fabrizio) who stays at or near the front door of the building all day and oversees everything. The elevator worked perfectly. Filippo and Irina were always prompt and helpful when we had questions or needs.

The location is outstanding. Even we Americans did walk to or from the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the Forum area, Jewish quarter, Trastevere and so on. And buses go every where. Most importantly, when you go out the front door, you are on PIAZZA NAVONA! We have visited Rome four times, and there is no other location that we would prefer over this one.

At home in the heart of Rome

  • 5 of 5
Babyorsetto exceeded our expectations for our 5 night stay in September. It is exactly as pictured; spacious and comfortable. We especially enjoyed sitting at the dining room table, with the view into Piazza Navona. With the windows open we felt like we were part of the vibrant life of the piazza, including live music in the evenings. It was a treat to have this space right outside our door, with a Bernini fountain, several restaurants, shops, Bancomat, tourist information, and locals and visitors enjoying the pedestrian-only piazza. When the windows were closed the apartment was very quiet, and we could close the shutters to block the afternoon heat and ambient light at night. The weather was very hot when we were there, so the air conditioning was much appreciated, although we also took advantage of the breeze through open windows in the morning and evening. The location was fantastic - Piazza Navona truly is the heart of Rome. We walked almost everywhere, but the bus line just a block away was welcome at the end of the day. The kitchen and washing machine were definite pluses. Irina and Fabrizio were very helpful on check-in and throughout our stay. We would love to return!

PIAZZA NAVONA is one of the grandest piazzas in Rome, a triumph of baroque art, where Bernini and Borromini, two giants of architecture, challenged each other with their formidable masterpieces. The fountain of the four rivers by Bernini faces the great church of St. Agnes, by Borromini. Nearby, in Corso Rinascimento, Borromini built one of the finest examples of Baroque, the magnificent church of St. Yves. Don't miss it!

Piazza Navona is busy all day, except in the early morning, its best time.

From there you can easily reach your destinations, all within walking distance: Piazza Navona (150 m), Pantheon (600 m), Trevi fountain (1 km, 10 min), Campo di Fiori (800 m), Saint Peter (2 km), Castel Sant'Angelo (800 m, 9), Spanish Steps (1 km), Tiberina Island (1.7), the Ghetto (1,2 km), Capitol (1.6 km, 20), Colosseo (2,1 km, 25), Ara Pacis (700 m).
