The Eagle's Nest is located on a hillside overlooking the Jay Range just off RT 9N and is surrounded by beautiful gardens and our vineyard. A ten minute walk, you will find the historic covered bridge, crossing the beautiful Ausable River. A ten minute drive will bring you to the famous Whiteface Mountain where you may take a leisurely gondola ride to the top of little Whiteface for breathtaking views of the high peaks or hop on your mountain bike in the summer. Winter will offer skiing and snowboarding down snow covered trails where Olympians have ventured!

In the opposite direction, 20 minutes away is the Verizon Sports complex where athletes race 90 miles per hour on a speeding luge and skeleton sleds and where you too can experience a bobsled ride or just watch if you are faint of heart! Ride to the top of the 90 meter ski jump or take guided tour at the Olympic arena. View the ice rink where the magic of the 1980 'Miracle on Ice' occurred when the US hockey team beat the Russians on that historic winter night.

If you love to fish and hike, you are minutes away from the best fly fishing on the West Branch of the Au Sable River as well as close proximity to the High Peaks major trail heads in Keene.

The Olympic village of Lake Placid is a short 25 minute scenic drive where you will find more activities and great dining and shopping experiences!

Just 10 minutes away from the Nest, in Wilmington you will also find great options for dining, whether you are looking for steak or seafood, a burger, pizza or wings!! As you can see you will not be bored when you visit unless of course you choose to be! We hope you will come for a visit and let the stresses of life melt off you in The Eagle's Nest in Jay, NY!

About Lisa Smith

Tom and Lisa Smith will be your hosts for your stay. We are life time residents of the Adirondack Mountains and moved to Jay in 2005 after having lived in Lake Placid, the Olympic village all of our lives. Tom is a retired teacher of 31 years and Lisa has pursued her passions of gardening, writing, sewing and raising their 3, now adult, children.

Lisa Smith purchased this house in 2005

Why Lisa Smith chose Jay

When Tom and Lisa sold their home in Lake Placid and went on a search for the new spot it was love at first 'site'. We knew we wanted to build a log home and we knew we wanted peaceful, gentle living with mountain views. This was the first property we saw and we knew it was it! It had everything we were looking for and it has proven to be perfect in every way! The grounds are perfect for Lisa's many gardens and have recently become the grounds for a wine vineyard, under the supervision of our oldest son who is a somelier' The property has been fun to make ours! You will enjoy the beauty that we have created in this spot!!

What makes this house unique

The Eagle's Nest is a cozy, inviting place for you to rest. The views out of the windows will calm your very core. There is a covered Farmer's porch for you to sit on and enjoy a meal or your morning coffee. The kitchen is well equipped and in the winter months you will warm yourself by a propane fired soapstone stove in the living area. In season,a small fireplace area is outside for your evening roasting of marshmallows or just enjoying the stars and the evening air.

Wonderful find!

  • 5 of 5
My friends and I stayed several days at the Jay home just in time to see the fall foliage. We absolutely loved our hosts and the house was PERFECT. It had absolutely everything we needed and more. We all agreed how kind our hosts were and how terrific the house truly was. We would definitely return. (Also, if you are a hiker, explore Jay Mountain (one of my fav. hikes in ADK) and the surrounding trails. Even though the Jay Mountain Area is not in the peaks region, the trails are still fantastic with amazing views.)

Labor Day weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time. The property was immaculate and homey with all the latest technology. The owners were cordial and helpful. The nature is glorious and all the activities such as hiking, visiting waterfalls, a gondola ride to the top of a mountain and close proximity to Montreal made for a truly splendid vacation. Lastly, the owner's sharing all their garden pickings was wonderful!

Great winter getaway!

  • 5 of 5
My extended family spent a week for New Years last winter at the Eagle's Nest, and it was by far one of the nicest rentals in the US ( and we rent vacation homes a lot). It doesn't even feel like a rental as it is very well-kept, nicely decorated and fully stuffed with everything you may need. It actually feels like a home. The owners live on the ground floor, which is very convenient in case you need something, and they were the most welcoming and gracious hosts you could ever get. Thank you Lisa and Tom!

Prettier than the photos can show!

We couldn't have been happier with our week spent at the Eagles Nest.. A beautiful home in a beautiful area of the country. This house is impeccably well kept and very comfortable to live in. The owners are very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. They helped us to experience some hidden gems in the area and were very unobtrusive as neighbors. We look forward to visiting again. Thanks!
