PRETTY TOWN HOUSE DINAN, BRITTANY

Dinan House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedroom house in a delightful setting in Dinan's Jardin Anglais

This is a pretty little 19th Century house located within the walls of the medieval town of Dinan in Brittany.

Its position in 'Le Jardin Anglais' (The English Garden) and beside the magnificent St Saveur Basilica is quite unique. Only a few minutes walk from the center of the town with its restaurants, crepêries, shops and bars, it is nevertheless a peaceful and idyllic area. The house has been renovated to a high standard and is beautifully furnished and well equipped. The main living area is on the first floor so that the views of the church and the garden can be enjoyed. It includes: a modern kitchen, a lounge area with satellite TV, DVD and hifi stereo with iPod dock, a dining area and a mezzanine office area with wifi. There are two double bedrooms, one large on the ground floor with en-suite bath, and one smaller on the top floor with en-suite shower. Although very compact, the space within the house is well designed and is ideal for one or two couples.

Dinan Town: Dinan is an architectural gem, ringed by 2,700 metres of ramparts. Its historic streets contain 15th and 16th Century half-timbered houses as well as Renaissance residences, Romanesque and Gothic churches and ancient chapels and convents.

The view from the Jardin Anglais is quite breathtaking, looking down on the ancient port and the magnificent viaduct which spans the River Rance.

A strenuous but rewarding walk is from the town to the port via the steep Rue de Petit Fort, one of the oldest streets in Dinan.

The town has over 35 eateries ranging from no frills bars to traditional creperies to cordon bleu restaurants.

Each Thursday there is a large market for fresh vegetables, cheese, bread and all sorts of other gastronomic delights.

Northern Brittany: Dinan lies 20 kilometers due south of the spectacular northern Brittany coastline. There are many beautiful beaches and resorts to explore including the historic fortified port of St Malo which is 35 minutes drive and the lovely seaside town of Dinard only 30 minutes away.

The capital city of Brittany is Rennes which is 50 minutes drive to the south, and well worth a day’s visit.

Inland Brittany is steeped in history and there are many fascinating places to visit including the fortress town of Fougeres and the towns and villages that skirt the River Rance.

We are France addicts! We love the culture, the food, the architecture.

Jacci purchased this house in 2005

Brittany is so close to home and yet so far away psychologically. A short flight to Dinard or Rennes, or the lovely Brittany Ferry to St Malo and then to the house in 30 or 40 minutes. Then Dinan is so lovely, so friendly and so historic. The house is in possibly the best location in the town. What more could we ask?

We sit in the living area on the first floor and never fail to pinch ourselves when we look out of the window at the view of the beautiful gardens and magnificent St Sauveur Basilica. Then in the evening we walk out to a bar or restaurant just a few minutes away. In nine years we have never tired of visiting.

DINAN HOUSE

  • 5 of 5
Beautiful house in fantastic location. Quiet area but really close to a wide variety of shops and restaurants and this therefore made it a great base for exploring Dinan. The house is very comfortable, clean and modern whilst having real charm. We would certainly use this as a base for visiting the region in the future.

COMFORTABLE HOUSE IN STUNNING LOCATION.

  • 5 of 5
We were warmly welcomed to Dinan by Sean on behalf of Jacci and felt support was available, if needed through out our stay. The location of this fascinating house exceeded our expectations being so near the Medieval heart of Dinan, yet in the open space of the garden a stone's throw from the city walls and panorama over the river Rance. I would echo another review in saying the proximity of the church and bells was magical.

The house was charming, comfortable and clean and the heating system was very efficient (our stay was in October). Our A level student found the mezzanine study a real bonus and we all appreciated the open plan sitting/eating area - and for me the jacuzzi was a treat.

We would strongly recommend this house and the town of Dinan for a visit - a wonderful variety of architecture and activities including boating on the river. Thank you for creating this lovely space and sharing it!

Owner's Response: Thank you, Gill for such a lovely review. It is good to know that the various aspects of the house we enjoy are a pleasure to others. The location is just brilliant, and we like being in the heart of Dinan - with friendly professional French neighbours who have been so kind over the past 8 years and always make us feel welcome. There is so much to do in the area that we are still discovering new places and we know that is the case for guests who have returned to stay a number of years. We hope you and your family will be in touch again.

A PERFECT APARTMENT!

  • 5 of 5
We spent a week at this delightful Dinan apartment. It was chic, spotless, and comfortable and in a great location within this charming, medieval village. The living room has a wonderful view of the Saint Sauveur church and of the English Garden, and is just steps from excellent restaurants and fantastic views of the Rance River. In fact, the entire apartment is very light, and quiet, too. Many a morning we went out for croissants and brought them home for breakfast, along with french-pressed coffee. Don't miss the Thursday morning market in the center village - steps away from the apartment. And the Sunday mid-morning church bells - oh my, so beautiful!

The beds were comfortable, showers were roomy with plenty of hot water, and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. Even secure parking is available a very short but convenient distance away, for a small fee. We would not hesitate in the least to recommend a stay here to our friends and relatives. It was just fantastic and there is so much to see and do in the area - boat rides, bicycle rides, beautiful villages, and more. The owners have thought of everything - all you have to do is arrive and enjoy! Merci beaucoup, from Richard, Carol & Cheryl from California

BEAUTIFUL HOME IN A WONDERFUL LOCATION!

  • 5 of 5
Our family spent 5 days here and it was a highlight of our vacation. The home is lovely and full of character. It feels historic and modern at the same time. Everything was spotless and the furnishings are very nice - such comfortable beds! The jetted tub was perfect after a long day of exploring. Both the owner and the local manager were so friendly and helpful.

I can't say enough good things about the location. The house is directly across from a park (Jardins Anglais) and next to a very interesting church. It is a short walk (1 block) to the ramparts, which have a fantastic view. From the ramparts, there is access to the river valley and lower town area. In the other direction, it is just a short walk to restaurants and shops.

Dinan is a gem. The town is on a hill at a bend in the river. There are beautiful medieval buildings and winding streets everywhere. It is a great place to explore and is full of charm, architecture and history. There is also plenty of wonderful food and great shopping.

Our family can't wait to go back someday and will definitely rent this house again when we do. We highly recommend it!

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION...

  • 5 of 5
An early spring break in Dinan proved a great time to experience this lovely medieval town. A small but well formed town house in one of the most beautiful areas of Dinan provides a well equipped and central base for experiencing the many sites, cafes and restaurants of the town and the area. The property was nicely quirky, comfortable, simply yet tastefully decorated and very well maintained. Probably not good for the elderly or infirm as the stairs are steep. This review comes with a high recommendation.
Great restaurant, La Mere Pourcel, just a 5 minute walk away, is an excellent venue especially for lunch (try the 12 euro menu...very good)
