Downieville House Rental Photos and Description
The Mauna House (Mountain House) is located on Commercial Street in Downieville, California. It is approximately 150 feet from downtown Downieville, next door to the Native Daughters Hall and Library and across the street from the historic Masonic Hall and Tin Cup Diggins. Yuba Expeditions, 49 Vines (wine and beer tasting), the grocery store and restaurants are a 1 minute walk away. Both rivers are a 15 second walk away. The Mauna House is located adjacent to the Yuba River levee, where the Downie and Yuba rivers meet to form a wonderful swimming and fishing hole. Downieville is known for outdoors recreation - there is something for every one - mountain biking, fishing, hiking, rafting, swimming and panning for gold.
There are two spacious bedrooms, one bathroom, full kitchen, laundry room, outside dining (wine drinking) deck to watch the sunset, large open living room, bike storage and workshop and a front porch to sit on and watch the world go by. The house has high-speed internet (OK for movie downloads), digital TV, telephone, espresso and coffee makers, coffee grinder, BBQ, washing machine, dryer, microwave, hot water kettle, pancake and waffle grilles, blender, mixer, food processor and more!
This is a nice quiet location to work remotely from; you can ride, walk, run the trails on your breaks!
Built in 1938 after the 1937 flood it is a classic 1930's bungalow. Light, cheerful and extremely clean it has been decorated in Island Style prints to enhance the outside/inside living of the Mauna House.

Why April Masters Ruhne chose Downieville
We have been going to Downieville for the last 15 years, riding mountain bikes, fishing and trail running. We wanted to spend more time in Downieville and we fell in love with this house last summer because of it's simplicity and the history of the property. The house had been in the same family since the turn of the last century: 1900. The fact that it was rebuilt after the 1937 flood with wood recycled from the town's gold mining days and still had some the original light fixtures and fencing just added to the charm. We have deliberately kept the furnishings simple and uncluttered so that we can enjoy the house and garden and not be overwhelmed by stuff.
What makes this house unique
Listening to the river, sitting on the porch or back deck, people watching and being in a calming, peaceful environment.
