Photos and Description of the Charleston vacation estate rental

Why rent a house when you can rent an estate? Drive down the meandering oak lined driveway to your secluded waterfront home in a gated community in the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge overlooking Bulls Bay. Despite its proximity to historic Charleston, warm beaches, islands, and unlimited coastal & cultural activities, you will not be able to see another house from your 6 acre estate. Spend time relaxing and enjoying the views and abundant wild life near the amenities of Charleston!

The home includes 5 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and sleeps 12 adults and up to 3 more children (large window seat/bed that sleeps 2 small children and a crib). The large master bedroom has the feel of a tree house overlooking the water. Other amenities at the home: 50” HD plasma TV with DVD & VCR, DVD collection, hammock on screened porch, fully equipped kitchen, gas grill, large indoor and outdoor dining tables, jet tub in master bath, 2 car garage, fireplace, enclosed out door shower, crab traps, extra freezer (for all the fish you catch). Pier with deep water floating dock, swing, and sink. Floating dock has ladder for easy swimming. Child swing hanging from an oak tree.

The home is named for the 22 foot diameter oak tree in the front yard. From every window you will enjoy a long range view over the water and/or beautiful oaks. There is a historic civil war canon embankment and other era relics on the property. There is a neighborhood landing if you want to bring a boat (Boat & Jet ski rentals are also available on nearby Isle of Palms.) Equestrian neighborhood (we can help you find boarding if you want to bring your horse). Volleyball net and other outdoor games are available.

Boat rides are available to Bull Island (undeveloped barrier island in front of our home) so you can play on a private beach or see the sea turtles nesting (seasonal). Dolphins are plentiful in the waterway. National Bird of Prey center is nearby. Charleston approx 30min, Isle of Palms approx 22min, Mt Pleasant approx 18min. In order to meet the high standards of our guests, we do not allow smoking or pets.

Hurricane protection: Unlike most rentals, we put in our contract that we will refund all of your money if you have to cancel due to a hurricane.

The Owner purchased this estate in 2003
Why The Owner chose Charleston

We were looking for retirement property to build a home on later, but fell in love with this lot and house.

A great place to stay for nature-lovers. Being on the marsh, there are lots of beautiful birds plus ocean life to be seen. The huge live oaks on the property are amazing as well. You get a great view of all of these things from almost any room in the house. This comfortable and beautiful home provides a great getaway!

Christmas in Charleston

Awendaw is close enough to Charleston to enjoy it, but far enough away to be in a completely different world. We had a terrific holiday week, and enjoyed the entire place. The kids and I played football and hide and seek in the front yard for hours. My daughter loved the swing and the hammock. Santa sent the boys on a scavenger hunt with clues hidden in the oak tree, the dock, and throughout the house. The kitchen was perfect for multiple cooks, and we loved the porch and living room as common areas. The setting for the home is gorgeous, and we're wistful about the end of the week. The owner is accommodating and the rental experience was great. Kudos also to Boone Farms, a local market in Mount Pleasant. We couldn't find a tree on Christmas Eve, and they gave us one for free (and threw in a wreath. We bought as much as we could at their market and encourage others to shop there as well. Sewee Restaurant is a gem as well! Terrific vacation.

Beautiful Home near Charleston -- Perfect for a Family Getaway

We chose this home because is was convenient to a wedding we attended at Pepper Plantation. The home is accurately described in this listing -- comfortable, clean and well maintained, in a quiet area with an awesome view of Bulls Bay. The owner was great to work with and provided excellent directions and arrival/departure instructions. Charleston is close by so we were able to include exploring this historic city and dining at some excellent restaurants. We recommend the Boathouse at Breach Inlet in Isle of Palms and Hominy Grill in Charleston. We highly recommend staying at this property and look forward to visiting there again.

Nice and Peaceful

This is a very nice place to come for a relaxing stay yet it is not too far from Charleston. The description is very accurate and the owner was extremely helpful. I would recommend it for families or groups. Security deposit refund was very prompt.
