Portugal’s 600km of west-facing coastline has the best waves, miles of golden, sandy beaches, and many tiny, rocky coves to explore. You have the beaches of Peniche, Santa Cruz and Praia Azul that are world famous for water sports such as Surfing and Kite Surfing. The nearest beaches are within 20 minutes (by car) of the resort, making an ideal morning, afternoon or all day outing for the entire family.
Lisbon, within 30 minutes (by car), offers world-class museums, galleries, shopping, restaurants and a brilliant nightlight. Par-que das Nações, originally the site of Expo 98, has become a new focus for Lisbon and offers an excellent day out for the family or the shopaholics among us. The Lisbon Zoo is 35 minutes from the villa and represents a great day out for the family.
Nearby, ancient monuments, castles, churches, convents and forts offer excellent sight-seeing opportunities. A short drive will take you to the historic walled town of Obidos, dating back to 308BC and in Mafra, you’ll find the largest palace in Portugal.
Golf: The Silver Coast is the new golfing destination for Portugal. It is now widely known to be more favoured by golf enthusiasts than the Algarve as the courses are quieter, cheaper and better. All that a golfer could possibly ask for! It has the greatest variety of courses available in Portugal, with true links and mainland courses.
The Silver Coast has around 10 courses within an hour of the Campo Real Hotel & Resort. The likes of Campo Real, Praia D'El Rey, Bom Sucesso, Penha Longa (former portuguese Open venue), Oitavos and Quinta de Brincal, all having great reviews.
Campo Real is a challenging course designed by Donald Steel which opened 28 May 2005. The course at Campo Real has been designed to appear as natural as possible. This was considered to be important to reflect the in-credibly beautiful surroundings. The hills all around provide a stunning backdrop to many holes and give the golfer a feeling of escape. The out of bounds parts of the course will be maintained as wild and natural areas and much of the existing vegetation has been re-tained for this purpose. This course has played host to the European Womens Golf Tour and will provide a challenge to golfers at all levels.
