The perfect setting for a relaxing vacation, family reunion or special event, this historic 3800 sq. ft. house is at the end of a 900ft seashell driveway on 3 secluded acres with a fantastic view of Strong Island and Pleasant Bay. Step out of the 6 person hot tub on the 1200 sq ft deck, pick up your beach chairs and walk across the large yard down to the 500' private beach to collect seashells, dig clams, take a walk, or launch the 2 kayaks that are provided. This location is ideal for young children and family dogs in every way.
On the first floor in the main house, there is a fully equipped eat-in kitchen, historic dining room with beehive fireplace, fire-placed living room, den with DVD player, wide screen TV, and fireplace, and a queen fire-placed master bedroom with wide screen TV and new sky-lit tiled bathroom with walk-in shower. Second floor has another queen fire-placed master bedroom with private bath (with shower), wide screen TV and windows on 3 sides, as well as 2 twin bedrooms sharing a cathedral ceiling full bath with tub and shower. There is an attached annex on the first floor with a private entrance accessed off a large flagstone patio that holds one twin bedroom, 1 room with pullout queen sized couch and a shared bathroom with shower. Every bedroom in the house has its own air-conditioning unit.
While the house is situated in a private and serene setting, Chatham's quaint and lively downtown shopping district, Fish Pier and famous Lighthouse Beach are just a short drive away. Take the kids to a Friday night Band Concert, ride the Cape Cod Bike Trail, or hop on a boat trip to see the seals on Monomoy Island.
One unique detail we offer is that due to the traffic congestion getting onto and off of the Cape on summer weekends, our ***Friday-to-Friday*** rental period is aimed at making your vacation start and end stress-free.
Our house has been in the family for over 40 years. It is a special place for us and we hope you will feel the same after spending your vacation here. We have been renting it out through a realtor for many years. This will be the 2nd summer we are doing it on our own. As in prior years, I take pride in making each renter's stay as comfortable and hassle-free as possible. It is our wish that everyone will treat and enjoy our home as much as we do.
Forgot to mention earlier that the owners were readily available and went out of their way to assist us. One of the guys in my group had ordered a hat to be shipped to the Cape and the owner of the house came by and delivered it, as the mail to the house gets forwarded to his PO box. We thought we had a small issue which turned out to be nothing, but he came by anyways. Correspondence was easy and speedy.
My friends and our kids had a great time at this house! The house's original wood flooring and hearths were astounding; parts of the home have been around since the 1700s. Of course, the majority of the house has been updated. The outdoor space will amaze you. The back lawn and deck, complete with jacuzzi, were great places to lounge and play. Super special bonus is the fact that the beach is so close to the house.
I stayed at this house last year with my extended family (two families and a set of grandparents). This can be a very picky group that has vacationed together and has varied specific needs and expectations in a summer rental, and we all unanimously decided to go back again this summer. When you finally get on the Cape, you have a sense of vacation starting, when you drive down the driveway to this house, it's beautifully kept grounds, and amazing beach, you really know your vacation has begun. While the house itself is very old and historic, you have all the comforts of modern day technology with wifi, flat screens, and a hot tub...You can take day trips in either direction to Provincetown, or down to Hyannis to catch the ferry to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. The town of Chatham is great, and there is easy access to the Cape Cod bike path system. If you don't want to over do it with activities, you can just walk right off the deck to your private beach and do nothing but read or nap, or just stare out at the water and relax. There is plenty of room to spread out, so everybody stays happy until the end of the week! The process with the owners via VRBO is seamless, and trustworthy. I cannot wait to go back!
My husband and I rented this fabulous historical home to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We searched for a place to accommodate our son's and daughter's families. We have 4 grandchildren ages 4, 2, 2, and 10 months. With all those different naptimes and bedtimes, we knew we'd be spending most of our time at the rental location! From the abundant bedrooms, bathrooms, huge deck and yard to the beautiful private beach, this place was perfect for us!
Only one negative - The family room needs some new furniture!
We hired Chefs On Call to cater a lobster/clambake and they were wonderful! Highly recommend them.
