CALIFORNIA DREAMING

This was the worst VRBO I have ever rented. I have been to several VRBO across the country and none were as terrible as this one. The description in the VRBO ad is not truthful. The apartment is not beautiful; it did not come with bathroom supplies and its 6 long blocks to the beach rather than 4.

When we arrived, after a 5-hour drive from Arizona, we had to walk down a long driveway, shimmy by parked cars, go up at least 15 steep stairs and then walk down a long landing to get to the unit with your luggage. Totally inconvenient and difficult for older people or small children. It’s a 4 unit building where all the other tenants are long-term tenants and then this unit is used for VRBO. Once inside the unit, there was no toilet paper or any paper products. The bathroom was stocked with “used” bars of soap, along with a used bar on the sink for us to use.

When we asked for the paper goods, the owner felt put out. He had come by to fix the TV that was not working but forgot to bring the paper goods. At 9:30 that evening paper goods were left at our doorstep. We had already gone to the store to get what we needed. When do you rent a VRBO or a hotel room with used soap and no paper products?

So…We asked for the WIFI code and the owner didn’t have it. The garage door remote did not work. The TV in the living/dining room did not work. The carpet in the living/dining room was full of stains and was really filthy. The placemats on the table were used and still has food glued to them. When sitting on the couch, TV noise from the unit next door was awful. Not to mention that when you turned on the hot water, the hot water heater started to bang so loud that we thought it was a skateboarder out on the street jumping ramps.

There were no instructions about anything left in the apt. Normally VRBO’s have a guide to how to operate things, codes and local places to eat. Nothing was here.
The dining room table took up the entire living room. So there was either no dining or no living space. The closet had a piece of furniture that operated like a buffett so there was one drawer for clothes. You couldn’t hang anything long because of the furniture in the closet. No beach chairs and no bikes, no amenities at all.

All of this and the owner was unresponsive with our calls and emails and texts. He just ignored us and at one point yelled obscenities to us over the phone. We moved out after one night since it was intolerable.
