Overview

Waverley Barn Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 6/7 in 3 double rooms with en-suites, in Surrey village of Ewhurst

The barn is a country-lovers dream, where old oak timbers mix sympathetically with green oak to form a fantastic living space with a massive inglenook fireplace and where the galleried landing looks down on the comfy settees near a friendly wood burner and next to a spacious dining area and newly fitted oak kitchen.

There are three beautiful double bedrooms with full en-suite facilities. One with bath and two with shower. There is an additional folding guest bed or cot for children.

Step outside onto your barn patio where you are surrounded by open fields and views complemented by the newly restored farm buildings, including a picturesque stable block with clock tower.

A 3 minute stroll takes you into Ewhurst village where you will find pubs serving food, shops & village sports facilities. The old parish church adds to the feeling of history you sense when visiting. Ewhurst also has a cricket club and Hurtwood Country Polo Club. Guildford, Cranleigh & pictureque Shere are nearby.

Barn in Ewhurst

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing place! So much love has been put into every detail of the decor, every bit as good as or better than a 5 star hotel.

Stunning location with plenty of walks in the beautiful surrounding area. Situated so close to London this is an excellent alternative to staying in the city.

The owners extended such hospitality making every effort to make us feel welcome and at home. This really was a home away from home. We certainly intend to return. Highly recommended!

The Barn - a Great Find

  • 5 of 5

Having driven along the unusual and exciting road from Shere to Ewhurst, we wondered what to expect on arrival at The Barn. We were not disappointed! This superb barn conversion was everything that we had expected to share with our daughter, son-in-law and three young grandchildren who had just flown in from Sydney. We had a warm welcome from Ian Mills, who was very obliging when we asked for any assistance, but otherwise remained unobtrusive. All equipment from furnishings to appliances was of good quality and very clean and comfortable. It was exciting for the children to find quite a number of toys in various cupboards, as well as having lots of room to play outdoors, not to mention the wonderful recently upgraded play park at the end of the driveway. Instead of kangaroos or wallabies, the children loved seeing the deer in the vicinity of the house! The Barn’s geographic position was ideal for friends and family to visit, or for us to meet with them. Access to London by train, Legoland, golf courses, etc. are all within reasonable reach, and the local countryside, pubs and coffee shops were enjoyed by all of us. Grandma was given the thumbs up for a great find and we all hope that we might have reason to stay at Thornhurst Brook Farm again in the future. Christmas here would be magic!

WonderfulBarn

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time staying in Ian Mills's lovely barn. It was beautifully equipped, very clean, even fresh flowers on our arrival. We were able to entertain our friends on several evenings during our stay and we were all made to feel very welcome. Mr. mills was on hand in case of problems but everything was perfect. It is in such a pretty part of Surrey with beautiful walks and pubs close by and Cranleigh and Guildford a few miles away. We would definitely recommend this property to our friends and would like to come back another time!

Beautiful barn in stunning surroundings

  • 5 of 5

The barn was clean and bright with a very spacious living area and beautiful modern kitchen. It was so cosy when the fire was lit in the evenings. Ian the owner, was most helpful. Our children loved the open space in which to run around in. We loved Cranleigh and the surrounding areas. It really is a special part of the world.

Rustic Comfort

  • 5 of 5

We recently relocated back to the UK after a stint abroad and rented the Barn for our first week back to act as our "base" while we moved into our new house a few miles away. Some friends, who are regular guests at the Barn, had recommended it to us and we had high expectations based on their descriptions. I have to say now that those expectations were, if anything, exceeded!

The Barn has been lovingly and painstakingly converted/furnished and, immediately upon entering, you are drawn into the cosy, welcoming atmosphere of the place. Ian and Denise have done a fantastic job with the conversion, especially with the subtle use of high-specification modern amenities designed for maximum comfort (super kitchen, underfloor heating, high-tech bi-folding patio doors, bathrooms etc), while maintaining the overall authentic, rustic feel of a barn setting (use of original timbers, tasteful brick and tilework, log burner etc). They also go out of their way to make guests feel welcome and we would thoroughly endorse the comments that others have made on this site in that respect.

As a result, the Barn quickly became our "home from home" and we had to literally drag ourselves away in the morning to go to our "real" home to carry on with the task of unpacking. Similarly, at the end of the day, we couldn't wait to come back to the luxury and comfort of the Barn and to sink into one of the two big leather sofas with a large glass of red wine. Our only regret was that it was never cold enough to warrant firing up the log burner as that would undoubtedly have taken the cosiness to a whole new level.

The Barn is great for families - certainly, our kids had a lovely time running around the garden, chasing rabbits and playing on the swings and the open-plan layout of the Barn itself means that there is enough room for them to tear about indoors too without the adults tripping over them. In terms of local facilities, Ian was kind enough to recommend a local restaurant in Shere which we greatly enjoyed and have visited on several occasions since.

Overall, we were delighted with our stay at the Barn and would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Idyllic setting, great hospitality!

  • 5 of 5

The barn was the perfect place for our group of two families. Ian and Denise have done a great job equipping the place with everything one could possibly need, including some yummy home made jam. We even used their landline on the first day as we were coordinating between car rentals and my sister's arrival.

Walks in the woods and relaxing on the patio was just what we needed in between wedding parties and trips to the city. My young one was delighted to share her apple with a horse on one of her walks, the athlete with us enjoyed running in the woods and the teenagers were in heaven with the Wi-Fi connectivity. The big room was perfect for our two families to spend time with each other as we were traveling from different parts of the world.

Thank you Ian and Denise!

Thornhurst Brook Farm is situated in the pretty village of Ewhurst in the Surrey Hills, a perfect base to enjoy the labyrinth of country walks and bridleways. If you like trekking, mountain biking or riding, you will be spoiled for choice. You will also find tennis, a children's playground and a bowling green just a short stroll from your accommodation, or why not time your visit to coincide with a polo match at the Hurtwood Park Polo Club.

England's largest vineyard, Denbies, offers a wine tasting tour and leisurely lunch at Dorking, where you will also find an array of antique shops, pretty boutiques and coffee shops.

Why not visit picture-postcard Shere where you can drop back in time and see how our villages used to be. You will find a blacksmiths, teashop, pubs, restaurants, museum and a much filmed and photographed church.

When you stay at Thornhurst Brook Farm, you are in a very rural country location, but just a short stroll from the village amenities, and you are very close to Guildford.
