A relaxing and homely stay in beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This is the 2nd time staying at the barn, this time returning with our baby daughter. We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay as we did the last time. We love the interior of the barn, and the fresh eggs from Pauline's (the owner) chickens. There is lots to do in the local area, a perfect location for walking, visiting national trust places and taking a trip to whitstable. You can also walk to the local pub. This is defiantly a place to visit if you are looking for a relaxing countryside break. Just beautiful.

Tranquility Base

We have had numerous holidays in cottages throughout the UK, most of which managed to attain our expectations. Today is our last in ‘The Barn’, Hollingbourne, a cottage that exceeded our expectations. Set in a tranquil location, with wildlife in abundance, well-kept grounds full of spring flowers, the sound and view of a babbling brook and daily visits from the bullocks in an adjacent field all served to our feeling of contentment. The accommodation itself was both comfortable and welcoming, with the freshly cut flowers, free range eggs (one of which had a blue shell) and homemade preserve awaiting our arrival. Pauline, the owner, was herself very welcoming and helpful, with nothing being too much trouble, she even apologised (repeatedly) for the awful weather we endured for some of the days of our weeks stay. We were extremely grateful for the facilities provided in the cottage, which allowed us to enjoy our stay in spite of the weather. A big thank you from John, Karen and Jinks (our dog) to Pauline for enabling our stay to be happy and one that we shall look back on with great fondness.

This was our 3rd stay at The Barn.

The Barn is truly a home from home. Cosy , warm even when all around us was white with frost, wonderfully equipped, very comfortable bed and the thickest fluffiest towels that we have had anywhere!

We shall be back

A little gem

  • 5 of 5

This barn conversion is very well done. It is as advertised on the website, and then some. It was perfect for my wife and I, warm and inviting, with180 degree views of the fields out of the rear windows. Every day and hour produced a wonderful changing landscape vista of the English countryside.

The barn is in glorious isolation, the nearest neighbours are the chickens and cows. The hamlet of Hollingbourne is picturesque, and the Dirty Habit, a 13th century pub is only a couple of hundred yards away. Great pub, great food. Tuesday evenings, the local church has bell ringing practice, very atmospheric.

Hollingbourne itself is a small village with no shops to speak of, so visits to the store a few miles away require a car. Hollingbourne is almost at the geographic centre of Kent, so perfect for exploration in all directions.

A lovely little hideaway in Kent :)

  • 4 of 5

A lovely rustic barn conversion, good price and great welcome from the owner. The best thing is the views from the full length windows spanning the lounge and bedroom where you can admire beautiful scenery and say good morning to the cows :). All facilities really comfortable and the only reason it didn't get a 5 star was that it's shouting out for a log burner to be installed to make it super comfy warm and romantic. Great walks in the fields and hills around dirty habit! And the local pub (5 mins max walk) is good. A very nice weekend and we shall return. Great for couples :) xx

Home Away from Home

My family & I spent a great week in Twitchers despite the horrendous weather. Pouring rain and falling trees could not deter from the charming renovation which was so festively decorated. The effort made by Pauline to make this feel homely at Christmas was amazing - a real Christmas tree and decorations all around was such a surprise and it made our week so special. The provision of homemade jam, shortbread and a box of chocolates was appreciated and our 3 teenagers enjoyed them all. This was a great location for us to visit family in Kent and Essex with easy access to the motorway. I can't recommend this property highly enough and will certainly consider staying here again if we're looking for somewhere to stay.
