Caught a nice trout off the private dock!
I give this lake cottage FIVE STARS, not because it's fancy, but because it was absolutely perfect for me! This is a terrific cottage; it's not large, but not too small either. Well cared for, clean, totally comfortable, all the amenities needed for a nice relaxing stay whether you're an indoor or outdoor person. I made one trip to the grocery store before I arrived and didn't leave the cabin again until my departure 2 1/2 days later. I wish I could have stayed a couple more nights, but totally enjoyed the time I had. The cabin is situated centrally on the lake, and sits on the south shoreline of the lake with access from East Devils Lake road. It’s literally sunny from sunrise, to sunset. (I lucked out with perfect weather.)
First thing I did when I arrived was sit my butt down at the end of the dock and started fishing. (The private dock is just a few steps off the deck). I started casting a favorite barbless spinner. The water was shallow and clear and I really wasn’t expecting much, I just needed the therapy. On my 11th cast (yes I counted) I caught a beautiful Cut Throat Trout measuring 13" and very fat. It had no fins clipped so I turned it loose. Gorgeous fish though!
Next thing I did was jump in my kayak and headed west toward the ocean for a nice long paddle, saw all sorts of wildlife (took a break at the public park on the north side, west end); next day I paddled east from the dock heading inland and landed at "Sand Point Park". It has the perfect beach for a kayak (bathroom and water too). Beautiful big fir trees, picnic area, located at the tip of a land-point that sticks out into the middle of the lake.
During my stay in the cabin, the one Cut Throat Trout was the only fish caught; however, while getting therapy sitting on the dock, I noticed a very large fish swimming along the shoreline. That fish traveled the same route about six times a day (or more) methodically swimming under or near the dock and on up the shoreline. It was at least 20" in length and yes, I tried to get him interested in my lures every time I saw him; I tossed lures in front of him several times, I think I even thumped him on the head once, he just wasn't interested. Saw this fish both days stalking the shallows. Great fun!
I have no complaints; the place was exactly as described in the listing description. I worked with Dave the rental manager. He fixed me up on a moment’s notice, was very informative, friendly and accommodating.
