I live in Rye, NH and grew up in Darien, CT. I went to Temple University and currently work as a Senior Director at Oppenheimer.

Chris Nee purchased this house in 2000

When i grew up in Ct. my family vacationed in the Bristol/Damariscotta/New Harbor area. My parents retired in Damariscotta (5 miles from my lake house). This area is the best of both worlds....lake front and 5 minutes from the ocean. The fishing on the lake is incredible. You will catch bass, pickerel and trout all day long. You can take a ride down the road to New Harbor and see the incredible coastline. You can hop on a ferry and take a day trip to Monheghan Island (My favorite place in the whole world). You can drive 8 minutes into Damariscotta and eat at some of my favorite restaurants in the US. Or you can just relax and listen to the loons or watch the bald eagles fish.

In front of my house is a private island that has 2 docks. You can use my canoe or kayak. You can paddle on the lake or on either side is a stream. One stream goes all the way to the ocean.

GREAT WEEK WITH FAMILY IN MAINE

  • 5 of 5
Everything we needed, and expected, for a great week with our family in Maine. A spacious vacation home on a secluded lake. Great fishing on a small private lake (pond) where no large boats/motors are allowed. Many options for recreation for all ages at the home, including games, toys, canoe and kayak, swimming (still a little cool), large TV with cable (we didn't use it much because of all the other options), wifi, pool and ping pong tables, and many others. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for extended family or a couple of families. Many attractions in the area, yet not crowded at this time of year (June) -- not like Boothbay Harbor which was wall-to-wall people, even early in the summer season. Not too far away for visits to places like Boothbay Harbor or Rockland. We are definitely planning another visit next year.

A PERFECT GET-AWAY!

  • 5 of 5
We had one of our best family vacations ever here (in October 2012)! Not only was the house big, comfortable, well used, and well cared for, but also its location just off of a large pond in the woods was exactly what we were looking (and hoping) for. We went fishing, canoeing, hiking, played lots and lots of games inside and outside on the lawn, and really enjoyed soaking up the beauty of mid-coast Maine.

We loved the fact that this is someone’s actual vacation house and not just a “rental property". It was very homey in that it had lots of kitchen gear, great beds and linens, loads of young children’s toys and books, adult board games and books, and a basement with pool and ping pong tables. There were also life jackets of varying sizes and fishing gear - for those who like to spend time by the water.

The photos - particularly of the surroundings - do not do this property justice! The house lies in an absolutely beautiful spot.

We hope to make it back there again! A big thank you to the owners for opening up this very special place for others to enjoy as well!

GREAT LODGING OPTION FOR DAMARISCOTTA PUMPKIN FESTIVAL

  • 5 of 5
Our group of 5 adults thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Secluded, private property with gorgeous views from every window. We were lucky enough to wake up to sun and beautiful fall leaves every morning of our stay, even when the forecast called for rain. We were in the area for the annual Damariscotta Pumpkin Festival. This house was a short drive away from town, and also close to friends who were staying further south on the peninsula. Enjoyed fresh lobster from Shaw's in New Harbor, also just a short drive down the peninsula. Plenty of space for 5 adults to have private sleeping rooms, and having the extra bath downstairs was helpful. Found house in immaculate condition. We hope to return next year!

OUTSTANDING VACATION HOUSE FOR KIDS

  • 5 of 5
Despite a couple of days of rain, we had an outstanding time at this property. It is well maintained and is a great getaway for families with kids. Ours (1, 4, 6) had a great time with the play room (lots of toys and games), basement (pool, ping pong), and exploring the outdoors (canoeing, walking, climbing trees, fishing). There was lots of space to spread out (and not be on top of each other) including the great dining room table that could accommodate my family and that of my sister's. Pretty close (10 min) to Damariscotta and "civilization" but felt very much like we were in our own world out there. Would definitely go back next year!

GREAT FAMILY RETREAT

  • 4 of 5
I just spent a fantastic 5 nights at this house with my two young children and we had a wonderful vacation. The home was spotless and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We even shared the home with friends and their 2 children for three of the nights and had more than enough room! The lake was perfect for swimming with the kids or a peaceful paddle and I spent each morning on the back deck with my book and a cup of coffee. This was our first visit to the Pemaquid area and our only disappointment was that we did not have enough time to do all of the things we wanted to do. I highly recommend this home for families looking to get away.

COMFORTABLE RETREAT WITH GREAT AMENITIES NEARBY!

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 4 had a wonderful time in Maine, and this house was the perfect home base for relaxing comfortably between all of the activities we enjoyed. The property offers a hard to find combination: peace and quiet with comfortable amenities inside and excellent attractions nearby.

The home itself is newer, spacious, and in excellent condition. We certainly were not roughing it. While staying at the house, we enjoyed the easy access to the quiet and very private Boyd Pond (a small lake). We swam, canoed, and fished (easy for the kids to catch plenty!). The area is excellent for hiking as well. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, you could enjoy just hanging at the house and lake... but there is too much to enjoy in the surrounding area!

The towns on Maine's mid coast are full of excellent restaurants, galleries, antique shops, and other attractions. They are all very nice. Nearby Damariscotta is a lovely town with excellent dining. 15 minutes away in the other direction is Pemaquid, where we enjoyed fresh lobster rolls at the fisherman's co-op overlooking the harbor before touring the historic lighthouse and fort. 40 minutes away was slightly larger Boothbay, where we took a whale watching cruise. Yes, we did see whales! Another great attraction is Monhegan Island, which we unfortunately didn't get to see (next time!).

I described this house to friends and family as the best of both worlds-- a spacious yet quiet lakeside retreat just 5 miles from the ocean, and plenty to do in the surrounding area. We would love to come back some day.
