Monschau is located in the Eifel national park in an area of outstanding natural beauty. As the borders of Belgium and Holland are only a few kilometres away Monschau offers at great base to explore this interesting section of Europe. The Mosel and Rhine valleys with some of the greatest scenery and wines in Germany are easily reached by car. Within an hours drive lies the cosmopolitan and vibrant cathedral city of Koln. Closer to Monschau there are many attractions such as the Hohes Venn (Belgium) also Rursee Lake which offers water based activities or relaxing boat trips or you can just while away the day. Within Monschau there are many interesting things to do and see. In particular The Red House, The Mustard Mill and The Handwork Market. No visit to Monschau is complete without taking the small yellow tourist train around town. The train runs from the market square through the narrow streets finishing up at the Burg before making is descent back down to the market square once again
