Best birthday weekend in years...

After being obnoxiously fiddled with for an entire week by the crack response team for Miss Rebecca's Cottage (my initial choice), I thought I'd try booking this place based on all the wonderful reviews - and, more importantly, the owners' responses to those reviews. I emailed them and received an email back almost immediately from Neil, with a great rate for single occupancy. I was travelling alone for my birthday to celebrate it with a good friend and chef who works in Highlands, NC, and I was on a tight budget. Having a family, I haven't taken a time-out alone in many years. So, I booked it right away, and I'm so glad I did. I was guided every step of the way by Neil ("There's icy roads back here, take this road instead..." etc), and upon my arrival, I was greeted with a thoughtful birthday card and an immaculate apartment. The kitchen is tiny bit fully functional; it doesn't feel small at all. They even provided tons of bottled water to drink and cook with (because the normally excellent water source had recently become a bit too hard after a strong series of storms). The bathroom is phenomenal, stocked with just about everything and tastefully designed with a mountain cabin feel.
The Sony Bravia television is wonderful to watch movies on, and there are nice accents and useful devices tucked away everywhere. The furniture is comfortable, especially the bed. I wanted to take it home, lol! My buddy ended up staying with me for part of the vacation, and he said the couch was pretty comfortable, too. Of course, this is supposed to be a "nest for two" (as in a romantic couple) so it's not ideal for a couple of buddies to rent per se, but my friend staying over was unplanned. Just ended up being more convenient for what we had planned all weekend, and because it snowed pretty good the first night up there. Driving on icy mountain roads after birthday bourbon would have been a bad choice!
Note: I overstayed my welcome by about 2 hours on the last day of my trip. I mistakenly thought that 11am was check-in and 2pm was check-out, and that is completely backwards. Very politely, they asked if I was ready to leave around noon, and I realized my mistake and packed as quickly as I could. They were very gracious about it, and in my hurry, I left my phone charger under the bedside table; they offered to mail it to me. I cant recommend this place enough, and it's true: the owners are worth the booking all by themselves!

Owner's Response: We love to hear of the details! It is so gratifying to have such an appreciative letter! Thank you! We have decided to go ahead and install a vent fan over the stove, as this is a fully equipped kitchen and longer stays usually mean more cooking... Although the apartment is very private, we are always a phone call or text away and we will always try and make sure you arrive safely and have everything you need for a comfortable stay!
