The Abruzzo National Park in the Appenines is 45 minutes drive away and covers 400 square kilometres with a wealth of flora, bird life, butterflies and mammals, including Chamois, Brown Bears and Apennine Wolves. The famous mountain plateau ‘Campo Imperatore’ is an hour’s drive away. The Adriatic Sea is 35 minutes easy drive away. Abrruzzo has 150 kilometres of clean sandy beaches such as Pineto and Roseto as well as the more popular resorts of Pescara, Montesilvano and Francavilla. Further details for this vacation farmhouse rental in Abruzzo, Italy

Casa Gufo stands alone on it’s own hilltop at 520m (1,800’) above sea level in the foothills of the Appenine mountains, and overlooks the valleys and medieval hilltop towns and villages of Abruzzo in Central Eastern Italy. It has 360° views all round the house, with the mountains to the West and the Adriatic Sea to the East. Casa Gufo was 3 small, connected farmhouses and sympathetically renovated by us with the work finished in December 2007. The main house and your cottage still retains the look and feel of an old Italian farmhouse but with modern bathrooms and kitchen etc. Our little cottage is a genuine original farmhouse and unaltered only to improve the facilities . There is still the original fireplace and manger. There is no sharing with other guests around the pool or anywhere else. It is private and exclusive to you. As we only allow one set of guests at one time, therefore the prices are higher than others, who promise a romantic holiday but have to share the pool.

The house is fairly remote and can only be reached by car. However, there is a friendly bar and shop at San Giorgio within a 5 minute drive or a 30 minute walk, and there are 2 supermarkets, greengrocers and 5 bars about 15/20 minutes drive away. Castiglione Messer Raimondo, our commune, is 20 minutes away and has a market every Saturday for fresh fruit and vegetables, clothes etc. Other neighbouring towns have markets on differing days of the week. I've made a detailed guide for all our guests on shops, bars, restaurants, banks etc etc. Bob and Lou, the owners, live next door, and are there to help and assist our guests, and never intrude on their privacy. We speak English and Italian and can assist guests with information on the area. I've been asked by previous guests to mention the portico in the cottage. This is a lovely shady area to eat and relax at during the heat of the day. It faces East so is always shady during the afternoons and evenings. There are other tables.

There is gas-fired central heating in all rooms, fans and a portable air-conditioning unit is available. Piping hot water is always available supplied by our solar panels and topped up by a boiler and pumps, which ensures that the pressure for all the showers is really good. All linen and hand/bath and pool towels are changed for guests every week and also on request. How to get to Casa Gufo: RyanAir Flights from London Stansted to Pescara Airport (50 minutes away) are daily in the spring to autumn months and three times a week during the winter. Many international airlines, some from other British airports, fly to the two Rome airports (3 hours away) with multiple daily flights all year round. Car hire (a car is essential for this rural area) is available at all airports. Directions to Casa Gufo will be supplied.

We were very impressed with every aspect of The Owl House. From the moment we arrived we felt right at home with our gracious hosts, Bob and Louise. The home was warm and inviting with every possible amenity available to us. The surrounding area was picturesque with its rolling hills and distant mountain ranges. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who would be fortunate enough to spend time in this area of Italy.
Thank you for making our stay enjoyable and most memorable!

A great location - peace and quiet away from it all with fantasic views in all directions.

A clean and well maintained property that has great original features that help you relax and absorb the atmosphere - the quickest holiday unwind yet ....

The area is stunning with a real mix of things to do and we would recommend a trip up in to mountains as well as the many local historic towns.

Locals are friendly and very helpful from the local garage to the supermarkets language and communication was fun and effective with no embarrsing moments... !

We would return to Casa Gufo which is a rare for us.

We thank Bob & Louise for their help and guidance especially the local restaraunt recomendation (Le Querchi) which was fantastic and the local Winery - for the best 'Bag in a box' we've ever bought!
Owner's Response: This is high praise for us from two discerning hoteliers. Thank you, Rob and Kerry. Bob and Louise.

Una bella ritirata ( A beautiful retreat )

Casa Gufo and its beautiful location is ideal for both exploring this lovely region of Italy and enjoying a lazy relaxing time around the pool and surroundings. The views from the house are spectacular and there are plenty of lovely villages and towns to visit nearby. The Apennine mountain range and a National Park are close by, providing lots of interesting walks and Pescara beach resort is very clean and less than an hour away.
The amenities in the cottage are excellent and the private use of the lovely pool, which was cleaned daily, was an absolute bonus. The cottage is beautifully furnished, clean and cosy, and with plenty of space for clothes etc. Both the welcome pack of food and drink and the information file on the surrounding area and places to visit were very useful. Bob and Louise are wonderful hosts. They are very helpful and accomodating but also discreet and unobtrusive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return again. We highly recommend Casa Gufo as a lovely place to stay in Italy. It is ideal for couples and families, for an energetic outdoor holiday or a relax and unwind holiday or a mixture of both!

A Must Try!

Review Submitted: September 24, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
If you are like us, with two very small children, and just want to stop the world and get off then this is the place to do it. The children could run (or crawl) riot in the lovely garden, or explore down the lane to pick tomatoes and figs, sometimes accompanied by Bob and Lou's gorgeous dog. We were fairly unlucky with the weather, which was out of character for early September, but thankfully Casa Gufo was well equipped for us on rainy days.
The views are stunning, with the most amazing sun rises reaching across the mountains and sunsets hitting the pool, ideal to watch with glass in hand.
Bob and Lou completely respected our privacy and didn't seem to blink an eye at the noise the children made which made our lives easy. It was also the small touches that they had done for our arrival which made the difference, a welcome hamper with all the basics and including Casa Gufo's delicious olive oil- plus a well equipped kitchen, toys for the children etc....
Casa Gufo in our opinion is suitable for most holiday makers, whether you just want to laze by the pool, explore the towns or go for amazing walks.
If you go, enjoy!

We stayed here with 2 children and all had a fantasic time! Bob and Louise are lovely people willing to help you if need be!. We were made to feel extremely welcome during our stay. The facilities are very modern and the accomodation was spotless and the old features of the property really made it feel homely. Views are spectacular of the surrounding villages and mountains and a must to explore!. This property in general is a very tranquil, secluded and beautiful place its typically Itailian in every way!! Will be returning again very soon!
