Casa Gufo stands alone on it’s own hilltop at 520m (1,800’) above sea level in the foothills of the Appenine mountains, and overlooks the valleys and medieval hilltop towns and villages of Abruzzo in Central Eastern Italy. It has 360° views all round the house, with the mountains to the West and the Adriatic Sea to the East.
Casa Gufo was 3 small, connected farmhouses and sympathetically renovated by us with the work finished in December 2007. The main house and your cottage still retains the look and feel of an old Italian farmhouse but with modern bathrooms and kitchen etc.
Our little cottage is a genuine original farmhouse and unaltered only to improve the facilities . There is still the original fireplace and manger.
There is no sharing with other guests around the pool or anywhere else. It is private and exclusive to you. As we only allow one set of guests at one time, therefore the prices are higher than others, who promise a romantic holiday but have to share the pool.
The house is fairly remote and can only be reached by car. However, there is a friendly bar and shop at San Giorgio within a 5 minute drive or a 30 minute walk, and there are 2 supermarkets, greengrocers and 5 bars about 15/20 minutes drive away. Castiglione Messer Raimondo, our commune, is 20 minutes away and has a market every Saturday for fresh fruit and vegetables, clothes etc. Other neighbouring towns have markets on differing days of the week. I've made a detailed guide for all our guests on shops, bars, restaurants, banks etc etc.
Bob and Lou, the owners, live next door, and are there to help and assist our guests, and never intrude on their privacy. We speak English and Italian and can assist guests with information on the area.
I've been asked by previous guests to mention the portico in the cottage. This is a lovely shady area to eat and relax at during the heat of the day. It faces East so is always shady during the afternoons and evenings. There are other tables.
There is gas-fired central heating in all rooms, fans and a portable air-conditioning unit is available. Piping hot water is always available supplied by our solar panels and topped up by a boiler and pumps, which ensures that the pressure for all the showers is really good.
All linen and hand/bath and pool towels are changed for guests every week and also on request.
