Sanremo is on the Italian Riviera, some 30 km to Montecarlo and 45km to Nice, it is a zone known to Italians as the Riviera dei Fiori or Riviera of Flowers because its mild climate, never too hot in summer and always the best in North Italy in the winter allows abundant flowers. It is an hours drive from Genova, which rivalled even Venice in importance in history and its hills are full of medieval villages and art, whilst the whole of the South of France arrives for its famous street market and famous Italian designer shops. You can visit the famous Villa Hanbury, chosen by Lord Hanbury as the place most adapted in Northern Europe for the growing of plants, the hinterland is all olive grove, vineyards and idyllic restaurants in the sun. Sanremo is a casino town visited historically by Royals and aristocracy and its splendid architecture reflects this. The beaches are of golden sand and you can swim in the rocky pools on the mountain streams. Bored of this you can shop in Montecarlo.
