|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
LA SCUOLA DI FURIO Holiday Home is a small holiday complex in a very quiet countryside (within the Parco delle Cerbaie) overlooking a green valley. You stay in a relaxing location and you can reach in less than 1 hour almost every tourist destination in Tuscany (Lucca, Pisa, Vinci, San Gimignano, Florence, the beach). So, in the morning you can have a massage by the pool, take a walk to the little country shops or go to the supermarkets in Fucecchio (5 kms) with your car, then visit one or more tourist attraction in Tuscany, come back to enjoy a swim our fantastic pool (12x6), relax in the large equipped garden sipping an aperitivo while the tomato sauce boils in the kitchen, then have a relaxing dinner in the garden alfresco with your loved ones. The 6 apartments (all equipped with AC) in the former school building have 1, 2 or even 4 bedrooms while Villa Maura (equipped with AC) offers some more comforts and sleeps up to 6. Parking inside the property. Nice country pizzeria / restaurant at walking distance. Free Wi-Fi.
A big plus for all our guests is that we live nearby. We will welcome you, show you around, provide maps of the area and give you a list of restaurants - based on our personal experience - and enjoyable excursions. We are always on hand if you need us but we will leave you to your well deserved holiday!
We sometimes see that families arrive here with the car full of groceries and food (after maybe a long journey under the hot Italian summer sun). Please note that most of the food you buy at home is available also here. Local supermarket Coop is open from 8AM to 9PM every day except Sunday; and 9AM to 8 PM on every other Sunday. Another supermarket, CONAD, is open from 8AM to 8PM and also every Sunday morning from 9AM to 12.30AM. And another smaller grocery shop, Gelsastore, is open any day of the year from 4 in the morning to 1 at night (fresh bread on Sundays, too)!
At 1,1 kms there is Il RitroVino di Caino, that sells good quality local food, cheese, extra virgin olive oil and wine and has fresh bread also on Sundays!
* Market *
A medley of colors and scents awaits you every Wednesday morning in Fucecchio in Piazza XX Settembre.
One of the reasons to rent a holiday accommodation is that you can cook your own food and avoid eating out. You can shop at farmers' markets, try local recipes, keep your children entertained while cooking... But sometimes you just want to relax and unwind with a nice glass of wine and let others cook! Among other local area information, we will give you a list of nearby restaurants (one of them is at walking distance!) we usually go to! And we will be happy to call and reserve a table for you, if you like!
*Farmers' Market Agripolis*
Local organic and quality food in Piazza Montanelli every third Saturday of the month, 4pm - 7pm
*Palio di Fucecchio (horse race)*
Every year since 1981, there is this horse race in Fucecchio. The town is divided into contrade (just like Siena!). You will spend your holidays at La Scuola Holiday Home, so in contrada Torre, whose colours are white and blue. It is a brilliant experience. Before THE day, there are lots of dining occasions in each contrada, sometimes al fresco, in order to spend nice time together, get to know each other and have a home style meal with some good wine. The date of the event is usually the third Sunday of May. In the morning you can attend the historical parade with its lively display of 1200 persons in rich locally made costumes along the streets of Fucecchio. The 3 afternoon races take place at la Buca del Palio (Via Fratelli Rosselli in Fucecchio). Palio might last until sunset! The races only last a minute or two, so you have to spend some time in Fucecchio beforehand, soaking up the atmosphere and the rivalry between the different districts, each of which is represented in the first two races. For a fucecchiese, Palio is like Football World Cup for Italians! The date for 2015 is the 24th of May!
*Infiorata di Corpus Domini (flower carpets)*:
On the Sunday of Corpus Domini the streets of historic Fucecchio are covered by beautiful floral carpets. In Fucecchio the custom of sprinkling the streets with flowers and forest sprigs compose sacred figures, dates back to the 30es but it was only in 1990 that the Flower Festival has become a tradition.
The carpet of flowers are displayed in the old city centre, starting from and coming back to the Collegiate Church. The materials used are many varieties of seasonal flowers (poppies, brooms, carnations, roses ...) and many other type of natural material (grapes, coffee, wood chips ...).
*Padule di Fucecchio, a bird watchers' paradise*
The Padule di Fucecchio is the largest non-coastal marshland area in Italy (around 1,800 hectares!).
The Padule is one of the last refuges for many plant species (the yellow floating heart or water fringe, now very rare in Tuscany, or white and yellow pondlilies, etc.), and is a big attraction for birdwatching enthusiasts, especially during the spring migration. Over 150 species can be observed throughout the year, at least fifty of which are nesting birds. Of particular interest are the herons, which nest in colonies, and migratory birds like the stilt bird, crane and black stork. There are 9 nature trails in the marshes, most on foot, some by car.

I was born in Fucecchio and I have been living here all of my life. Even if I have been working in the fashion industry for more than 20 years now, I am more and more interested in the holiday rental world. I also attended a course to become a professional manager in hospitality and tourism management; it was fun to come back to school. I even started a blog about everyday life in Tuscany. You learn something new every day!
Ms. Tiziana Fierli purchased this villa in 1998
My father bought this property in the late '90. It was in such a state! No heating, no electricity, no running water! He started to restore it (with Italian burocracy, this process can take a lot of time and even more patience!), then came with this idea: 'Why don't we rent to tourists?'. At that time (pre-internet era for me) I thought it was a terrible idea. 'Tourists in Fucecchio? This is not going to happen!'. How wrong I was!
It is easy to fall in love with this location! Splendid views over a tranquil valley, fantastic pool. Real possibility of reaching from nearby Empoli train station: Florence in 24 minutes, Pisa in 28 minutes and Siena in 45 minutes (stress free solution), or Lucca in under 30 minutes by car.
We are now back at home, after having 3 great weeks in Europe.
We enjoyed staying at your property, and would certainly recommend it to others. We would be interested to stay again in warmer weather - enjoying the pool and the BBQ.
The best part of our accommodation was the personal attention which you provided us - both by email before we arrived, and your sharing of local knowledge when we arrived. There is no doubt that this helped us to be better prepared to enjoy our brief time in Tuscany.
Grazie per la vostra ospitalità!
Mick, Samantha and Margaret
We spent two wonderful weeks here in summer 2013. We rented the villa and one of the 2 bedroom apartments. The location is stunning, even better than the most beautiful pictures. The buildings, grounds, and pool are in top condition. The hosts Tiziana and Walter were very kind and helpful with advice for making the most of our stay. I would have been happy to stay at the villa and enjoy the views but there is so much to see in the area. There are many beautiful hilltop towns within a short drive. The nearby train station connects you to the rest of Italy. We took day trips to Florence, Lucca, Pisa, and the Cinque Terra. There is a nature reserve a quarter mile away that has some nice walking trails. There is little traffic so you can wander the countryside in relative safety. There were 6 adults and 2 teens in our group. Everyone had a wonderful stay. We shopped for food at nearby grocery stores and cooked some great meals both in the small kitchen and using the outdoor grill. We would love to return!
Villa Maura is wonderful. It is perfectly located for day trips to Lucca, Pisa and Florence, all about an hour away. It was lovely to sit out front and drink our morning coffee while looking out over the rolling hills and distant vineyards of the countryside. The owners are great, very communicative. This villa is a little off the beaten path so it's very relaxing. The trattorias in the area are authentic, with amazing food and are truly home cooking.
Villa Maura proved to be an inspired choice for our Tuscan experience. Based in the countryside outside Fuccechio it was a great base to get out and explore what the region has to offer.
We spent 4 nights and would highly recommend the property to anyone as a holiday rental. We hav a 14 year old and 10 year and they happily shared a room whilst the master has a balcony to sit out and enjoy the view of the pool (which was a great bonus at the end of a day's sightseeing for everyone!). The table tennis table down in the basement also got a good workout. There's lots of living space and bathrooms to keep everyone happy!
The property is immaculately presented with everything you need to have a relaxed stay. Tiziana was a great host and a fountain of information on how and where to go in the area. Lucca is a short drive and a beautiful town to visit and hire bikes to ride around the walls. Florence we would ecommend driving to Empoli station and getting the train (which is inexpensive and frequent). Locally San Miniato is worth a visit. Nearby Fuccechio has a large supermarket to stock up everything you need and with your own bbq at Villa Maura it's nice, on a long overseas trip, to have options to cook at home whilst the kids jump in the pool.
We'd defintely come back again and would stay longer if we could. Thanks again Tiziana; it's a place that we're sure to talk about alot over the years to come.
This is our second visit to La Scuola in Tuscany and our group consisted of four adults. It has an ideal location for sight seeing, being close to Pisa, Florence, and Lucca, not to mention the vineyards and wine tasting, but you do need a vehicle as it is special in its remoteness from urban life. It is in a beautiful setting, within the rolling hills and picturesque scenery you expect from the area. There is a swimming pool to be shared by the few apartments but it is mainly very quiet for a relaxing day with a good book. We have stayed in both an apartment and the Villa Maura which is an exceptional property with all the facilities a family could need. Both met our needs more than adequately.
Tiziana the poprietor gives exceptional customer service and this year she helped us with a series of visits with local dignitaries and local places in the area in our efforts to establish some things of unexpected but special historical interest to my family. She has, on both our visits, offered her time and service willingly to help us out. Tizzie even arranged our first basket of shopping to ensure we had groceries for our arrival as it was late in the day and at the weekend.
We enjoy a balance between touring and relaxing and this gives the opportunity to do both. If you don't wish to drive into cities there is adequate railway provision locally to get where ever you wish to go.
The town of Fuccechio has an open air market each week and there are large local supermarkets close at hand. There are detailed information packs in the Villa and apartments to help you. I would highly recommend this property as a base to chill out or as a base to see the wonders of historical Tuscany or as for us a chance to do both. Thank you Tizzie for helping us have a wonderful 2 weeks holiday and for helping us put into context our family history.
We both recommend the place and the region. The villa in La Scuola domain is well furnished and equipped. Nothing is missing ! Even sheets and towels are given and changed at the end of each week. The villa remains cool even when it is hot outside. No problem to sleep. The place is very quiet day and night. People taking care of the domain are helpful, nice. The swimming pool is wide, clean and we underline the quality of pool furniture (chairs for example). The landscape you can admire from the windows of the villa is typical : olive and cypress trees, hills and a little bit further mountains. The private garden with a table, chairs and a barbecue are welcome. As there are other families staying in the near flats, children play with one another though they might not speak the same language !! The domain is wide enough to play football without disturbing a baby's nap.
As far as the region is concerned, you will need to come twice to discover each treasure that lie hidden in the region. The Scuola is in the middle of everything. 45mn drive from Florence, 40mn from Pisa etc... To be seen also : Volterra, San Giminiano, Lucca and its unforgettable Tiramisu 'semi-fredo' in the 'gelateria Fiori Dal Centro' via borgo Giannotti. One last point : car is a "must have" there ! Ciao tutti and enjoy Italia !!!
We were seven persons: 2 parents, 2 grandparents and 3 children, staying at Villa Maura, a separate building of La Scuola. The beds were ideal for five, two extra beds (couch) were OK. The kitchen was a bit small but sufficient for our 7-people family. Villa Maura was recently rebuilt and modern and fine. The courtyard of La Scuola was beautiful, neatly paved, including a marble swimming pool, a grill, olive trees and a well-cut extensive lawn - and a fine view over the hills. The small town of Fucecchio, a few km away, had two good supermarkets. The proprietor was kind and easily reachable when needed. We can warmly recommend this accommodation to families with children and to anyone who enjoys the Italian countryside. The distance of La Scuola is comfortably short from for instance Florence, Pisa and Lucca.
Fucecchio is not yet well known, but its location is ideal for those wanting to combine relax, getting lost in the countryside and visit all the beautiful reasons why Tuscany is famous in the world. In less than an hour you can reach the beautiful walled town of Lucca; the world famous leaning tower of Pisa; Leonardo's birthplace Vinci; Florence - the jewel of Renaissance, home of Michelangelo's David and Ponte Vecchio -; the nice hill town of San Miniato; taste the wines of Montecarlo, walk on the golden beaches in Versilia or visit the Vespa museum in Pontedera. Driving to medieval gems Siena, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano and Volterra takes a little more than one hour. La Scuola Holiday Home is set inside the Cerbaie Natural Park, with trekking trails and picnic areas.
