This is a modern house in an old frame, all of the modern amenities with the character of a 100 year old farmstead. Home includes a chefs kitchen, front load washer and dryer, a sauna with a rain shower, high speed internet with wifi and three bedrooms with queen beds and private bathrooms. Very peaceful, quiet and private.

Outdoor living includes vegetable gardens, free range chickens, outdoor kitchen, farm table dining with seating for 12, outdoor fireplace, and a view of the islands. The vegi gardens are in full effect during the summer months providing fresh vegetables to go along with the fresh eggs from the chickens.
Local attractions include beaches with incredibly clear water, three marinas with 5 miles, several great restaurants including the Happy Hour less than a mile away, quaint small towns including historic Fishtown in Leland. Enjoy days at local wineries, award winning cheese makers, farm markets, beaches, boating, fishing, and much more.
I am self employed spending time between my home in Michigan and NYC or a beach somewhere. Often times I am found at a restaurant checking out the local fare. Enjoyment comes from cycling, boating, cooking, sunday brunch, traveling and great friends.
Sean Karcher purchased this farmhouse in 2006
This home really feels like home, very comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. The rolling fields surrounding the house feature tall prairie grass and not a neighboring house in site.
Every window has views of rolling hills, trees and native grass. Step outside and enjoy views of the lakes and islands.
I have honestly never stayed somewhere for a vacation that I have loved more than the farmhouse. We have had experience with VRBO in the past, and all of those stays have been nice, but nothing compares to the comfort, hospitality, and beauty that this listing provided. The property is nestled between two hills, making it feel like you are the only people in the area for miles, the road in front of the house is quiet, the television is tucked away in the very clean and inviting basement, all making for an incredibly peaceful stay where the most noise you'll hear is the birds singing in the trees. If you want a beautiful view, all you need to do is follow the path up the hill behind the house to see one of the most spectacular views of Lake Michigan and the Manitou islands that I've ever seen. Our trip involved driving from one peninsula to the other to do wine tastings and we were worried that the farmhouse would be a little too out of the way for us, but it didn't feel too far away from anything that we wanted to do. In fact, it was far more convenient to stay there than any of the hotels that we have stayed at in Traverse City in the past. This listing has it all... peace and quiet, proximity to beautiful towns (like Suttons Bay, Northport, and Leland), privacy, gorgeous views and property, and of course... chickens. The owner encourages you to feel free to gather fresh eggs if you would like (which we gratefully took advantage of), and provides you with an incredible kitchen filled with every utensil or dish that you could possibly need to prepare them and any other food you would like to cook during your stay. There is a charcoal grill out back that we cooked some great steaks on, and an incredible firepit that we wish we could have used but the temperatures weren't cooperating (instead, we took advantage of having a fire in the wood stove in the living room). The owner has pretty much thought of everything with this listing, and we just couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. My hope is to be back in the very near future for an even longer stay where we make no plans at all. I would happily just hang out at the farmhouse the whole time.
We visited as a getaway for our anniversary and were happy to be able to bring our well behaved dogs. The place is gorgeous and everything is well thought out...from the robes, to the kitchen supplies, to the brochures supplied with information on the area. We visited the local wineries for 2 days and were surprised at how quick a drive it was around the peninsula. There are beautiful vistas from the property, including those of Lake Michigan and far away dunes that were fantastic. What really struck me, though, was the absolute peace and quiet. Our dogs loved the long walks we took along the road - which seemed to only possess tractor traffic! Sean was responsive and professional. We can't imagine a better place to re-connect with nature and one another, yet be close enough to fantastic restaurants, wineries and activities.
We have stayed in this gorgeous farmhouse for the past two years, and feel like we've stumbled upon a total gem. First of all the location is totally secluded: in the midst of rolling countryside, with big trees on the property (and a hammock), a little garden, and a lovely view of Lake Michigan from the hill behind the house. We love going for long walks through the nearby farmland and orchards (you can literally walk an hour and pass maybe one car), or driving up to the Northport Farmer's Market or down to Sutton's Bay, or to visit some of the Leelenau wineries. The house itself, however, is so beautiful that you kind of don't want to leave. The kitchen is amazing - about 4 times as big as my Manhattan kitchen - and I love all of the natural light flooding through the windows. The place can easily accomodate 6, but my husband and I have enjoyed having the place to ourselves. It is truly a peaceful haven. Cannot wait to return!
I loved this place so much the first time that I stayed again! This farmhouse has been reinterpreted to highlight clean lines and simple materials. The furnishings are thoughtfully curated and the decor warmly showcase the owner's eclectic interests and impeccable taste. The outdoor spaces around there house are fantastic, too. Sitting and listening to the breeze blowing through the surrounding fields is food for the soul. It's the perfect spot to get away from it all in style, yet easily get to all the great wineries, restaurants and beaches in the area.
My Friends and I stayed at Sean's magical farm house in October while attending a friends wedding. First off the location is perfect, 15 or less to wineries, Leland, Suttans Bay and great restaurants. Sleeping Bear Dunes and Leelanau State Park are also a short drive.
The farm......this place is really special and so lovingly put together. All of the views from the windows are like Andrew Wyeth paintings. The furnishings are tastefully eclectic and will satisfy the urbanite and the chronic pinterest poster ;). Really nice sheets and towels to compliment the comfortable bed and bathrooms. Loved the claw foot tub!
The outdoor area is really cool with the large table and even larger fireplace. My friends and I are avid fire people and we were so looking forward to hanging out near the fire, so much so that we did it in a down pour as it was a rainy weekend. So worth it!
If you are a foodie or an average cook you will be delighted with the kitchen, it has everything. Also lets not forget Sean's generosity with his garden and fresh eggs...the icing
to a perfect stay.
This is the type of place that makes memories, we are still talking about it and hoping to make it back again.
Thanks Sean, you nailed it!
Had a great time at Sean's farmhouse. Its a gorgeous old farmhouse that has been redone with all the modern amenities and great decor. Great location, peaceful and secluded yet a short drive to the beach/town. Kitchen had everything you could possibly need and a nice garden outside to pick fresh herbs/veggies. Doesn't get much better!
