A Little Place in WV has everything you need for a quiet getaway stay. Beautifully sited on a secluded 5 acre wooded lot the hilltop location offers a graceful view across gently rolling hills to Cacapon Mountain in the near distance. Fog often divides the peaks and valleys in the early morning. Sun, moon, and stars rise to greet you, warming your morning or silvering your night. This cabin is a great place for a romantic getaway or an intimate weekend with your family. Secluded and completely surrounded by woods the site provides privacy in an open outdoor setting. Small groups of friends will enjoy the chance to hangout and visit in a beautiful setting--quiet, secluded and peaceful. The deck and one balcony look east to Cacapon Mountain with rolling hills between. A second balcony looks straight into the trees. The two bedroom cabin sleeps six comfortably. Recently renovated, the charming mix of colors, furnishings and natural light provide a warm cozy atmosphere. A gas fireplace will take the chill off an autumn evening and add an intimate feel to the living room. There are three TVs and DVD players, satellite TV, and a library of DVDs to keep you entertained. The cabin has free WiFi to keep you connected. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. There is a washer and dryer in the basement. You can enjoy your meals inside or on the deck with views across the valley. The master bedroom suite has a queen size bed and sitting area. There are two balconies with wonderful cross breezes. The cabin has central air but you probably won't need it. The second bedroom has a double bunk bed. There is a futon in the basement den. Plenty of sheets and towels are available.
I am in my mid-60s. I love walking out doors and in recent years I have hiked in the Anapurna region in Nepal, been to Machu Pichu in Peru and most recently traveled the Colorado River for 21 days by rubber raft through the Grand Canyon. I own a small business in Baltimore and love visiting A Little Place in WV.
Sam Austell purchased this cabin in 2009
Several years ago my wife and I accidentally passed through Berkeley Springs. We had lunch at Tari's, looked around and decided to come back. We made several weekend trips staying in cabins in the area. We got lucky and found our cabin one very dreary but enchanting day in November. It was well built and had a wonderful view. But it was a mess. Nothing that a little bit of destruction and then construction couldn't take care of. I love a project. I hope you will enjoy the serenity and beauty of A Little Place in WV.
The property was fantastic for me and my buddies. We slept five of us very comfortably without having to share a bed (the couch was put to good use). The morning fog was absolutely breathtaking and the amenities were great. The place was the perfect little piece of seclusion for a getaway from city hubub.
What a great weekend! Just the two of us....great view, very comfortable, fully stocked kitchen...we had a wonderful weekend.
I would caution about travel on the dirt roads to the cabin and steep incline driveway...would not recommend for small cars. We made do and it was worth it!
The cabin was awesome. It was really big (honestly, a little big for just my girlfriend and I). The main bedroom faced east. Watching the sun come up over the mountains in the the morning was incredible. The cabin was located not too far from town either. We were able to go tubing and hiking without having to drive for very long at all.
Only caution I'd state is that I was glad I had my jeep to get through the roads and up the driveway. In the summer a sedan (driven very carefully) should be okay, but I'd be hesitant to try that in the winter.
This is the 3rd year we chose a vacation spot through this website and this house was the nicest one yet. The house was clean, the property was beautiful. The pictures perfectly showed the beauty of the house. We walked in the house and immediately noticed how clean the house was. One thing I wasn't thrilled about: the roads! Since it is in the mountains, some of the roads are very steep and some are not paved. The house is about 20 minutes from Berkeley Springs. I highly recommend visiting the main part of town. It's a beautiful area. I also recommend visiting Cacapon State Park. You can spend the day swimming and fishing. You can also rent a paddle boat, kayaks, or row boats. My kids (ages 11 and 7) had such an amazing day fishing and kayaking.
The cabin is exactly as pictured - clean, comfy and scenic. But there's even more... The photos don't capture the thoughtful touches throughout: pretty artwork on the walls, fun and interesting array of novels, two shelves worth of DVDs, pile of board games, cuddly throws... The master suite is huge - stretches the whole upper floor - it was like a getaway in the midst of a getaway. The furnishing is a mixture of unique pieces along with Ikea, so durable with young children around.
That describes the cabin - now for the grounds: The photos don't capture the expansive space around the property. There's this whole wooded area in front of the cabin for kids to run around, plus a campfire circle made of tree logs. Sadly the weather was grey and drizzly for our weekend, so we were indoors a lot -- but luckily the cabin was the perfect place to be enclosed. We could still enjoy the horizon, and cozy up in the plentiful play-spaces.
My family was very happy with our stay at this home near Berkeley Springs. The property was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen was stocked with all of the utensils that are needed to cook a nice meal. Our children loved the endless movie choices, great options for families. The location was very peaceful and the view was magnificent. Thank you for sharing your vacation home with us!
Berkeley Springs and the surrounding area are a mecca for visitors in the mid-Atlantic. Voted one of the top ten small art communities, there are galleries and The Ice House Community Art Center with live performances. There are two large antique stores and a number of small ones in town for those surprising finds. There are a number of restaurants in a range of styles and prices. Our favorites are Tari's and Panarama at the Peak. The Creamery for a quick sandwich and the Country Inn for a fine breakfast should be on your list. There are a couple of spas in town for the full range of pamper yourself delights. Our choice is the Atasia Spa. We have taken many wonderful walks in the area. The C&O canal is accessible at Paw Paw and Hancock. There is a beautiful trail from the parking lot at the Cacapon State Park scenic overlook. Its easy too. The Star Theatre shows recent movies Friday, Saturday and Sunday and has the best popcorn in three states made in a classic antique popcorn machine. Tari's, the Fairfax Coffee House and Earth Dog Cafe usually have live music one night a week. By the way you will get great coffee at the coffee house and the barbeque at Earth Dog is terrific. There are near-by Civil War sites at Gettysburg, Antietam and Sharpsburg. Skiing is at Whitetail. If you like the ponies the head on over to Charlestown. Then there is the cabin. A Little Place in WV is a lovely, peaceful place to just enjoy being alive. Let the sun warm you in the morning or the breeze cool you in the afternoon while reading a book on the deck. Three TVs, satellite and a library of DVDs are available for your enjoyment. Free WiFi is on site to keep up with the other world while you enjoy the real world. There are old fashion board games, remember them. If there is a chill in the air, the gas fireplace will warm you with its romantic glow. There is also a fire pit outside.

|Notes||Part of the beauty of our cabin is that is a mile and a half down a dirt road. For that reason we do not rent the cabin January thru part of March. We welcome guests in late November and December. Should you feel uncomfortable with foul weather predictions please call me to discuss the situation. We want you to be comfortable and will be happy to give a full refund should winter weather threaten.|
