The house and farm were a wedding present to my
grandparents when it was built in 1915 and has been in the
family since then. It was an operating farm until the mid 1980's
and is now used for recreation.
Richard Wm. King purchased this house in 1915
We have retained the property in the family due to its
uniqueness. It is manage as a certified family forest. It
has an orchard, prairie restoration and wildlife food plot.
The house has a unique setting, nestled in a mature oak
forest. You can enjoy the beauty of nature, take advantage of the recreational opportunities or explore Dixon's quaint downtown and many historic sites.
Thank you so much for the use of your home & property in Dixon, IL! My family and I had a very pleasant, relaxing stay. We made so many great memories together. Thank you for thinking of nearly everything we could have needed. The front porch was our favorite spot! Makes me want to add a screened in front porch to our house. We would not hesitate to recommend or rebook your property in the future if we get the chance.
Thank your for allowing us to stay @ your cabin. It was nice & quiet & you wouldn't know you were only a few blocks from Dixon. It had a cozy feel to it with being so secluded. I would love coming back someday when it was warmer. We did sit out on the porch til it got too cold & had to go inside. We loved the fire pit. It was cold so it was nice. The cabin accommodated everyone in our party. I loved the inside decor - made it feel even more comfortable. For me it was especially nice because I grew up in the Milledgeville; Sterling Rockfalls area. Superb customer service by this owner. He was prompt in answering questions etc., Loved it! Thank you.
My family & I just got back from a wonderful weekend at the King Homestead. We made so many great memories while celebrating my mom & dad's birthdays & my dad's retirement.
The owner of this home has thought about just about everything you could need - from charcoal for the grill to paper towels. The home was quaint, clean & cozy. We all had a very comfortable stay & our favorite places to hang out were the beautiful screened in front porch & around the large dining room table. We were able to cook together, play games, sing along to the songs on the radio ~ we even had fun washing dishes together. :)
The location of the home was perfect. Conveniences were all within a 5 to 10 min drive from the home. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood on the edge of town. The wooded property gives the feeling of seclusion that makes the house so cozy.
The town of Dixon is perfect for a relaxing family getaway. We were happy to find out that we would be in Dixon during their Scarecrow Festival weekend. There were lots of fun activities to experience & interesting attractions nearby. We checked out the John Deere Historical Site & stopped by the Reagan boyhood home. We also ate at Flynnies Diner - man, I wish I could pack that diner up & bring it back to our hometown - delicious food, generous portions, clean, fantastic atmosphere, affordable prices & superb staff!
Really enjoyed everything about this trip & the King Homestead was the best place to stay to recharge & reconnect with my amazing family. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to relax in this perfect home away from home.
I have stayed at the King Family Farm before and loved the beautiful grounds, the bike trail to Lowell Park, the ability to walk into town along the beautiful river, even though I felt like I was a million miles away from civilization when I was sitting in the back yard of the farm.
Now, in addition to all of this, the interior has been beautifully decorated in the cottage style which makes it perfect as a romantic get away. Next time I will bring my husband.
I recently stayed at this adorable cottage on its gorgeous park like grounds. At the farm, we felt like we were a million miles from any kind of stress yet we were able to bike into downtown Dixon. This remarkable little downtown is situated right on the Rock river. Crossing the bridge from the downtown affords one of the most beautiful in town views that I have ever seen. We enjoyed the riverfront immensely.
We were also able to bike right from the farm along an absolutely beautiful rail trail to Lowell Park, which again blew me away. We discovered that there were three other state parks within a 30 mile radius of Dixon. It was a surprise to my husband that Northern Illinois is hilly and forested. We were able to go out in a boat on the river and witnessed more beauty from the water.
This was a great place for my husband and I, but I believe that it would be especially nice for a young family with small children. There is so much to explore just on the grounds.
This stay for the month of December until January 2, 2014 was perfection for my needs. And who would have thought it would be in my hometown area WHERE I WAS BORN AND RAISED. I loved the style and amenities found in this old farm home. Brought back so many memories of my years growing up on a farm in Sterling. Thank you for allowing us to be a apart of the great home and its surrounding area. Deer, rabbits, squirrels, cardinals, chickadees all abounded during our stay. AND WINTER DID NOT HESITATE AND WAS NOT SHY DURING OUR TIME THERE. I would recommend a new oven and stove, a vacuum that works and lights over the sink and stove in the kitchen. Just small perks that would make the stay more convenient and comfortable
Very Charming home with all that is needed for a comfortable stay. Four good size bedrooms provided plenty of room for our family get-together. Located near town, but felt remote due to the wooded backyard. Kitchen small, but adequate. Very much appreciated the dog friendly policy. Rated as excellent for condition/setting as described in listing.
