Overview

Apple Valley House Rental Photos and Description

Situated on 1.3 acres of land on top of a mesa in Apple Valley, Utah (4400 feet above sea level), the Gooseberry Mesa lodge is a private, comfortable and relaxing getaway with a view that will keep you coming back. The main house has 3 bedrooms and sleeps 6 comfortably, while the detached studio apartment above the garage has a king size bed to accommodate 2 more.

The main house includes a kitchen with stainless steel appliances including refrigerator, electric stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave oven, coffee maker, toaster, a complete set of pots and pans and dishes. There is a counter, bar with stools so your guests may watch you cook while they sit and chat and a large dinner table that sits 6-8. Eat dinner with family and friends while enjoying the view of the mountains. After dinner sit in the living area while watching television, or unwind in front of the fireplace during a cold winter night, or get together with your family and friends for a board game night. Or if you prefer to barbeque outdoors on the porch and later gather around a 'campfire' for some story telling and toast marshmallows instead.

The laundry closet stores a full washer and dryer. All three rooms in the main house have sliding doors that lead out to the enclosed garden where you can relax and watch the kids play in the little playhouse.

About Nik Rashid

We love to spend most of our 'free' time hiking, exploring and mountain biking. We frequently escape to our 'Utah' house with our two kids for peace and quiet, and to enjoy outdoor activities this area has to offer. We would love to share this experience with you too.

Nik Rashid purchased this house in 2011

Why Nik Rashid chose Apple Valley

We fell in love with the panoramic view of Zion NP and surrounding mountains during the day, and at night the sky is an endless blanket of stars.

What makes this house unique

Having lived in big cities all our lives, my husband and I love the peace and quiet this house offers and it's closeness to many National Parks.

Most Excellent!!

If you want a fantastic place to call home for a few days, this is the place! Fully accommodating lodge atmosphere with AMAZING views of the mesas that surround. Breakfast on the patio at dawn, and evenings by the campfire watching the stars, the lodge did not disappoint. We will definitely be returning next year for more Gooseberry adventures!

A lovely well-appointed home with gorgeous views!

  • 5 of 5
My extended family of 8 was completely comfortable and happy in this very clean, lovely, private house in the high desert. Between the four bedrooms and several outdoor lounging spots, we had plenty of space to hang out together as a group or get some space from the others. The spacious kitchen had everything we needed - down to a cupcake pan for the kids' birthay celebrations, and the a big grill had space to cook for everybody. The house feels very remote, but civilzation is close enough for a quick lunch and a grocery stop. Zion National Park was a 1/2 hour away (and so beautiful!) and Bryce Canyon is an easy venture away (and spectacular!) There's so much hiking and sight-seeing in the area, and the house is a wonderful home base. If we venture to Utah again, we would definitely make it a point to stay at the Gooseberry Lodge.

(We were a family of four, with a teen boy and a 9 yo girl, plus parents and aunt and uncle.)

We did have some issues with the internet when we arrived, but the caretaker was very responsive.

Excellent place to stay

Beautiful view of Zions out the Kitchen window and patio. Very well kept home with a playhouse for the kids and an awesome studio above the garage. We toured Zions National Park during the day and viewed some deep sky objects through an 18" telescope (my own) in the dark night skies. The Milky Way is beautiful. Hated to leave.

Great vacation home

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our family get together of 5 at the house. House and property very well maintained. Scenery from the front porch is wonderful. We visited Zion, Bryce and did some ATV ride at St. George (30min away). Dealing with the owner was a pleasant experience. We didn't have to call them for anything during our stay. There are a lot of games for all ages if you have the time. Highlight of our stay was making s'mores in the fire pit on cool star filled night. Will do it again some day. Great place for a relaxed vacation.

Great for the whole family!

  • 5 of 5
Our family had such a good time here. Plenty of space to cook, share meals together, play games, and sit quietly on the patio and watch the light change. Everything was clean and well-stocked. We traveled to Zion two or three times, the Grand Canyon once, and found a place to whitewater raft too. The view was fantastic!

Didn't want to ever leave!

Didn't want to ever leave!

I am not sure I can say enough wonderful things about this property. First off, the owners were wonderful to work with, quick with responses, and answered all my questions thoroughly. Next, the house is amazing! Inside it is beautiful, completely stocked with everything a person could ever think to need, plenty of room for everyone, has amazing insulation as the house stayed a great temp with or without the A/C, and the beds were wonderfully comfy. The view outside was breathtaking and the property was fun to explore. Sleeping with the windows open is a must to hear the coyotes howling in the middle of the night! Our teens stayed in the studio and it gave them their needed privacy, but they were still part of the vacation. The garage/game room kept us all busy in the evenings and had a small stash of outdoor toys including Frisbees, sand buckets and an intertube we took to Quail Creek Reservoir one afternoon.

Everything was conveniently located: Zion being about 40 minutes away (the Narrows are a must!), the reservoir about 25 min, Pipe Springs National Park about 30 min, and Coral Pink Sand Dunes about 45 min (if you take the 6 mile non 4 wheel drive dirt road in Colorado City). Grand Canyon and Bryce are a bit further... 2.5 hours, but worth the drive. If you plan a lot of day trips, definitely get the annual National Park pass. For $80, it will get you into everything and will follow you for the next year to any other parks you visit. Especially important if you head to Bryce via Zion because you will have to pay Zion entrance fees to pass through from the main to East entrance and the tunnel. Worth it for the amazing scenery. We will be back!

Word of warning for out of state travelers that like to imbibe, Utah has crazy strict liquor laws and it is next to impossible to purchase additional beverages like wine or hard alcohol. Amazingly beer was everywhere?!?! We thought we would get tricky and buy a bottle of wine in AZ, about 30 min away when we visited Pipe Springs, but plan to add $10-$15 to a typically priced CA bottle. A usual $7-$9 bottle at our local grocery was $22! Needless to say, we did without. lol.

Gooseberry Mesa Lodge is a quiet, comfortable and relaxing getaway with panoramic views of Zion National Park, Gooseberry Mesa and the Smithsonian Butte. Far away from the crowd, you can watch wildlife from the porch, star gaze at night or build a fire and toast marshmallows with the kids.

This is a great location for family getaways and adventurers seeking a central base to explore the surrounding National Parks such as Zion, Bryce, North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell, all within a day trip away. Many state parks and recreation areas are also close by. We are also within the immediate vicinity to world-class mountain biking trail systems such as Gooseberry Mesa, Little Creek Mesa and the JEM/Hurricane Rim Trails.

For the adventurous soul, head down the Smithsonian Butte Country Byway in your 4WD. Smithsonian Butte Back Country Byway is only 1.5 miles from the lodge and travels for 9 miles between Apple Valley on State Route 59 to Rockville on State Route 9. As the route winds down into the Valley of the Virgin River, you'll experience views of Zion Canyon, Canaan Mountain, the Vermillion Cliffs, and Zion National Park just four miles west. As you reach the highest points on the Byway, Zion's fiery landscaping, filled with buttes and temples, lays in panoramic glory at your feet.
