The property is a gorgeous, secluded, redwood covered retreat. It sits at the corner of my parents ranch property.

Quiet, secluded, beautiful redwood grove. Relax on the hammock or by the campfire under the redwood canopy.

Charming little house in the woods

  • 5 of 5
We found Amy's Cottage a delightful retreat. Everything was as presented;clean, easy to find, private and charming. The beds are super comfy and everything worked. We enjoyed the hot tub and the fireplace. WE never turned on the TV, and didn't use the stove or grill, but appreciated the coffee and coffee maker. The owners were pleasant and easy to communicate with. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Peaceful, Relaxing, Secluded Retreat from the world!

  • 5 of 5
Amy's cottage is like stepping into another world--you kind of step back in time with all of the beautiful antiques and the tranquil setting of the land. The redwood grove this cottage is nestled in is breathtaking and truly makes this home a gem. It feels very private and hidden away--a perfect romantic retreat! Husband and I had the BEST 1st year anniversary getaway weekend here.

It's got the old world charm, but with all the modern luxuries that we've come to love. We loved the fast wifi, catching the Sunday football game on cable, relaxing in the hottub and the comfy bed!

The outdoor area is gorgeous and complete with a firepit, seating area and a fenced off pasture with adorable sheep that come to say hello every day. (LOVED that!!)

Everything is as stated in the description--the pictures are accurate and the hosts are very pleasant and kind, though we never met them on our trip. Thanks for the privacy! :)

Our only semi-negative point was that we couldn't get the shower to work, though we could have called to ask about it. We took baths instead, but wrote a note to the owners to add some tips to the Welcome Sheet with some instructions on how to operate it. It's an older house and the bathroom reflects that a bit.

We took other's advice to bring a small space heater and we were glad we did for the cool October mornings (especially in the kitchen making breakfast! brr...) Bedrooms and bathrooms all have working electric heaters built into the wall, so you can monitor heat individually while in those rooms--that was a nice surprise!

There was plenty of kindling to make fires in the woodstove and wood chopped out back for our use inside and out. They even left a hatchet for us to make more if needed, so no need to bring one!

We agreed that the living room furniture wasn't super comfy, but we pulled the pillows from the guest bedroom out to soften up the futon's wooden frame while we lounged--worked perfectly for us and they had a few throws over the couches to snuggle up in too! Lovely!

We enjoyed hiking and driving through the Jedediah Redwoods so much! We highly recommend the route going in on Howland Hill Road--definitely worth it! We were sad the coast drive was so foggy the weekend we were vacationing, but our time at Amy's Cottage made our trip SO memorable that it didn't even matter! We'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks so much!

beautiful cottage in Redwood country

  • 5 of 5
The cottage turned out to be exactly as it appears in the photos EXCEPT that it is more attractive and larger! We loved the cookies that were left for us. The owner accommodated our late arrival easily by leaving the keys, and was available but totally unobtrusive during our stay.

The living room/kitchen was comfortable, welcoming and easy. The full kitchen was fine for making full meals. Amy left the frig stocked with some staples like milk, butter and eggs, and the kitchen had a full complement of spices as well as all the necessary dishes and cookware. Both bedrooms were very pretty and quiet, with many windows and quilts, comfortable beds. The yard was expansive, pretty and well-maintained, and would be great for kids who need room to run around. There is a hot tub ready for use but we didn't get to try it. It would be lovely among the quiet resulting from the surrounding redwoods and the dark star-filled skies.

This is a peaceful beautiful place with easy access to Rt 101 and the Redwood Highway with state and national parks. Amy recommended a few hikes which were great. Nature is the drawing card in this area, with the Redwoods, many parks with lots of hiking and driving trails, and pristine beaches.

The cottage was very clean and well-prepared for our arrival. Our security deposit refund was made promptly after departure.

This was a great place to stay for a reasonable price, especially great for accommodating families or two couples. We will definitely go again the next time we visit the Redwoods in northern California. We definitely recommend Amy's cottages to all.

pretty good

  • 4 of 5
We were not meet on arrival, though the key was under the mat. Everything was self-explanatory.
Positives: great location, quiet, good appliances, comfy bed, good selection of utensils, excellent internet.
Negatives: really could have been cleaner - lots of cobwebs, shower very difficult to operate and had a continual drip -terribly wasteful, sitting in living area quite uncomfortable.
When we contacted the owner about the shower she seemed uninterested. She seemed surprised that we would contact her to get the shower going. "Worked fine when I cleaned."
All in all it was fine - and if I were to return to the area -a highly likely proposition - I would look harder for another option.

Quiet Family Retreat

  • 4 of 5
Great little house tucked back in the trees. We stayed with our two little ones ages 2 and 4 and they had a blast running around the yard. The driveway goes all the way around the house so they thought it was just like a race track.
The kids totally loved the cookies when we got there, especially since it was dinner time.
The house is as describe and definitely comfortable for the four of us. I would agree with some of the other reviews, that yes there is a 'mustiness' when you first arrive, but I didn't notice it once after the first time opening the door. And I wouldn't want to sleep on the futon in the living room without have an extra foamie or air mattress to put on top.
We did not use the futon. The beds in the 2 rooms are super comfortable. We slept like babies after our days down at the ocean and stopping at the farmers market on Saturday.
I would come back to this place again and I would recommend it to others who we making a little trip to Crescent City. Thanks so much for a great stay. We had a wonderful family vacation! :)

Amy's cottage review

Amy's cottage review

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It was in a kind of run down neighborhood but I can tell they have tried to make the cottage homey. We loved the fire pit outside and fireplace inside. The beds were comfortable. The third bed/futon in the living room was lacking comfort and pillows. I would have been happier if more blankets were provided. My husband had read reviews about bringing an ax and newspaper to start a fire. I am glad he had read that or we wouldn't have been able to start a fire. The Internet was not working but the owners were always available to talk to when we had problems. The washer takes a long time to fill up due to water pressure, so I wouldn't count on doing a lot of laundry. They had a few lights on and cookies waiting when we arrived and the furnishings were cosy. We would stay here again.
