Photos and Description of the Crystal Beach vacation house rental

The Raydio Ranch is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath beach house about a one block walk from the beach. The house has a queen size bed in each bedroom. There is a daybed with a pull out trundle that will sleep two and a brand new queen size sleeper sofa that also sleeps two. There is a spacious outside deck that allows for entertaining with both a covered and uncovered area for the sun worshippers. The house was completely remodeled and refurnished after Hurricane Ike. All linens, pillows, towels, dishes and complete cookware are furnished. There are brand new full size washer and dryer. There is a disposal, but sorry, no dishwasher in the modern kitchen complete with furnished bottled water for drinking and cooking. We have a 36' Sony Satellite TV with free HBO and Showtime movie channels as well as a DVD player. In the large garage below the house there are some beach toys for use by kids, some plastic chairs to take to the beach and very importantly an extra toilet. There is a large outside shower downstairs to get that beach sand off. Pets are welcome with an extra non-refundable fee per day per pet with a limit of only 2 dogs. The pet fee is $10 per day per pet.

About Jim Ray

We purchased Raydio Ranch in June of 2004 and immediately enjoyed the fantastic Bolivar Peninsula fireworks displays for hours on end on the 4th of July. We lived in Beaumont at that time and eventually spent nearly every weekend 'at the beach'. I enjoy salt water fishing especially in the surf. But we also enjoyed riding the golf cart on the beach and socializing with our friends and family who often came with us or to visit. Our two Labrador Retrievers would just about go crazy when they realized where they were. They loved playing in the water. In fact, as we upgraded and improved our house's furnishings and conveniences we decided to build a beachfront house down the street as an investment. We completed it in January of 2007. It was a very large beautiful 4 bedroom, 5 bath house that stayed rented all the time. As nice as it was, we never spent a night in it preferring our smaller cozy original house. Unfortunately, 'Radio Waves' as it was called was completely wiped out by Hurricane Ike. I have since retired and we decided not to rebuild that house.

Why Jim Ray chose Crystal Beach

I semi-retired in 2011 after 50 years in the radio business (hence the name 'Raydio Ranch') and we moved from Beaumont back to Austin where we had previously lived for over 30 years. We love the beach house, our neighbors, the slow pace and great weather at the beach. However it is a much longer trip now from Ausitn and we don't come as often as we did when we were in Beaumont and only 55 minutes away door to door. We had never rented the house before and only a few times let relatives or very close friends use it. So we decided to share it with others and renting it enables us to still use it and enjoy the beach from time to time.

What makes this house unique

One of the best things about Raydio Ranch is that it is located in Sandy Shores. Most all of the houses have been rebuilt since Hurricane Ike. It is the most friendly first class subdivision on the Bolivar Penninsula. There are always social events going on in the 'hood' as it is called. The full time residents and the weekenders blend together seemlessly and everyone is very helpful to each other. All the partying is usually over way before midnight. No wild all night college kids around Sandy Shores. Lay around or fish on the beach. Let your kids build sand castles. Sit out on the deck and enjoy the sunset. Put up and take in the flag. Use the first rate gas grill to fix that great meal after a long day at the beach. You will love Crystal Beach, Sandy Shores and Raydio Ranch.

Our beach house called 'Raydio Ranch' is located in the Sandy Shores subdivision in the very middle of the 26 mile Bolivar Peninsula at Crystal Beach, Texas. It is 13 miles to the free ferry that is operated year round by the Texas Department of Transportation. The ferry takes you across the bay to Galveston and its many attractions. Besides great restaurants, Galveston boasts The Schlitterbahn Water Park, The Strand, Moody Gardens, and its own tourist attractions. Raydio Ranch is also 13 miles to High Island the highest point on the Texas Gulf Coast in an area that is world renown for its birdwatching. Raydio Ranch is located a short 1 block walk from the beach which is the main attraction at Crystal Beach. You can swim, fish, look for shells, jog, catch some rays, people watch or just hang out with a cool one. There are multiple restaurants on the peninsula as well at the Gulf Coast Market, better known as 'The Big Store'. There you can find everything from groceries to a toilet seat to a TV to a bathing suit to t-shirts to all manner of souvenirs. The best thing about the area is that it is a great place to enjoy a quiet vacation for just a couple or a whole family. Try it, you'll like it.

Additional information about rental rates

We accept cash, personal checks, cashier checks and money orders.
We do not accept credit cards. There is a $250 refundable security/damage deposit to reserve the house. Full payment of all rental fees is required 4 weeks prior to rental dates. Cancellation prior to 4 weeks before your stay will result in a full refund. Your deposit is forfeited with less than 4 weeks notice of cancellation.
Fees And Taxes There is a $40 cleaning fee. Pet fee is $10 per day per pet for up to 2 pets. We require a $250 security/damage deposit to reserve the house. Off Season Rates.....Sun-Thurs nights are $150 per night....
....Fri-Sat nights are $180 per night. Spring Break & Summer Rates....Sun-Thur nights are $180 per night...Fri-Sat nights are $230 per night. ALL TAXES ARE INCLUDED.
Check in time is 4 PM on first day. Check out time is 11 AM on last day.
Assuming all is well, we return the deposit the week following your stay. Call or email with questions or for additional information.

We have a sink downstairs for washing up or cleaning fish. We also have a dog washing station complete with a leash hung from a rafter to secure your animal. It is a good idea to rinse the saltwater off your dog.

Wonderful Stay!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay so much, we didn't want to leave. Even our dog seemed at home. It is so nice to find places that are pet friendly. The house was very clean and open and light. Even though it is not on the beach, it is close enough to walk (about a block) and the walk was enjoyable. We didn't even use all the ammenities provided, there were so many. The house is well stocked, but if you run out of anything or need something that doesn't happen to be there, the Big Store is right up the road and has everything imaginable, even a pizza place. We are already planning to go back.

I also want to add that the owner was extremely helpful and responded quickly to inquiries.

The owners were a pleasure to work with. The location of the property was great! Just close enough to get to action of Galveston but far enough to be peaceful. The house itself was exactly what we needed. The people in the neighborhood were friendly. Before we even got home, my husband was ready to look at the calendars and see when we could go back.

Great stay!

Our stay at Raydio Ranch was great. The house was clean and comfortable and our family of 8 had plenty of places to sleep and relax. Even though we weren't right on the beach, it was an easy walk to get there and we could see the ocean from the house. Next time we go, we will be taking the kids' bikes because it was a perfect neighborhood.. paved roads and very little traffic. Jim was great to work with and made the whole experience very easy. We will be back!

Perfect beach house, location was great. The house was clean and functional. Loved the fact that we could bring our dogs. It was very cold while we were there, the only thing missing was a fire place. We'd go back in a heart beat.

Perfect Mini-Vacation

We absolutely loved staying here for our anniversary last month. It was close, but far enough to get away for a weekend. We liked the fact that we could bring our two yellow labs with us, and they loved playing on the beach every day. We especially loved the "dog cleaning station" located at the side of the garage, next to the sink. There is a leash that is latched up above right by the outdoor shower. It made it so easy for us to rinse the dogs off after our play time at the beach. It was beautiful weather and we even got to see some fire works that some people set off close to the beach. If you bring your "furbabies" with you to this place, it has everything you could possibly need for them. The gate on the patio made it convenient to at least let the dogs dry off outside, without having to worry about them running off. It is a beautiful, quiet place. We've been wanting to go back ever since we left! We will definitely be making a trip back here when the spring/summer arrives. Thanks so much for opening your home, so that others can enjoy it.
