About Kate Frick

Hello! We are David and Kate. We live close by in Frederick, MD along with most of our adult children and grandchildren. We are nature lovers and outdoor adventurers and would love to share our dream cabin with you.

Kate Frick purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Kate Frick chose Berkeley Springs

Sleepy Creek Cabin is a dream come true for us. Something about the mixture of arts, wellness, and natural beauty of Berkeley Springs kept us returning to this historic town. We finally decided we had to have a place of our own. When we first arrived at the cabin, saw the view of the water right from the deck, the privacy of the woods, and the beauty of the vaulted ceilings within, we knew this place was 'the one'. We lovingly renovated the cabin to what we refer to as 'Rustic Luxury'. No where on earth have we felt the peace as at Sleepy Creek Cabin and we hope to pass that on and let others experience the unique serenity this special place has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

Complete privacy is what you will experience. Sitting on the deck facing the creek you will not see another house or cabin. If you need a break from life in the fast lane, this is it. We love the fact that within 10-15 minutes we can be in town to eat at fine restaurants, tour art galleries, antique shops, or get a massage. Also close by are local parks to boat, fish, hike, run, bike, or ride horses. It truly is the best of all worlds.

Wonderful Respite in the Woods

  • 5 of 5
My husband, sister, and I spent ten days at Sleepy Creek Cabin in early September. This was our second visit, having spent a week there in 2013. Obviously we loved it since we returned for a longer visit this time!

The cabin was as presented in VRBO; however, one cannot appreciate the beauty of the building from the outside. The inside is glorious with beautiful wood cathedral ceilings and a lovely loft which my sister used as her "apartment." The owners were helpful with directions and provided extra linens for our "guest." The cabin was very clean and well-maintained with a wonderful covered porch and open deck.

My husband and I spent our fifteenth anniversary at the cabin and went out for dinner at Panorama at the Peak, a restaurant not to be missed. I had a vegan entree (stuffed squash), and my husband had what he described as "best crab cake ever"! We had a couple of superb lunches at Fairfax Coffee House, but made most of our own meals.

We traveled to Cacapon State Park, Martinsburg, and Hedgesville. Last year we went to Antietam, but this year, we traded history for relaxation. Everywhere we went, whether we were shopping or walking along the street, people were friendly and welcoming. Manners are much nicer here than in the North where we live!

We enjoyed a recent-release movie at the local theater on a Monday afternoon. This is an old building that even has sofas in the back for easy sitting! There seemed to be a regular group of folks who attend this Monday matinee. We visited Frog Valley, an amazing collection of artisans' work, and also spent time in many other galleries and shops. We even drove over to Paw Paw, a long, winding roadway and definitely not really worth the time and gas. My husband was interested in the canal history, but, aside from a small park dedicated to the canal, Paw Paw has little to recommend it to the traveler.

The cabin itself, however, was the main draw for us. The privacy and quiet are what we seek in a vacation. All three of us were able to gradually ease back from out daily lives and enjoy the freedom and beauty of the cabin, the creek, and the firepit.

We would recommend this cabin for those who are like us -- people who enjoy natural beauty and peace.

Lovely tranquil retreat

Had a great holiday weekend at this well appointed cabin. Close enough to town to be convenient, far enough away to feel like a proper getaway. Lots of fun but bring your bug spray

This beautiful property is very secluded - we felt like we had our own private paradise by the creek. The cabin is beautiful, and the property was very clean and well maintained. Kate was wonderful to work with, we cannot wait to return!

Most Relaxing Stay

  • 5 of 5
This was the most relaxing vacation we have ever experienced. Although there are neighbors, because it is so wooded, you felt totally isolated. Not a peep, except for the birds, the heron, the deer and the babbling brook. We did not leave the cabin to go into town for days. Every evening a herd of deer appeared in an adjacent field to graze. The town of Berkley Springs is only 20 min. away, Cacapon State Park is close and the C & O Rail trail in Hancock is not that far. The cabin is very cute, clean and cozy. It is comfortable for 2 to 4 people, although it says it will sleep 6, but with only 1 bathroom that could be a problem. We will definitely come back to Sleepy Cabin by the creek.

Cozy, Creekside Cabin

  • 5 of 5
We had a lovely stay at this charming cabin in the woods. The highlight for us was it's close proximity to the creek where my older kids enjoyed fishing, exploring and gently floating/tubing down the creek. On a hot summer's day, there's nothing quite so refreshing as a dip in the cool water. We also loved that the cabin was conveniently located with only a short drive to the C&O Canal bike trail in Hancock, MD.

The cabin itself is charming and simple with added 5 star details such as flat screen televisions, granite counter tops, nice glassware and kitchen accessories, pillow top mattresses and little lotions and shampoos in the bathroom. We loved the wraparound porch and there was even a spot to hang our hammock!

The owners are extremely kind and accomodating and clearly want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

Relaxing Romantic Experience

It was wonderful to get off the grid for a few days; we loved sitting on the porch with coffee or wine and listen to the creek--so relaxing. Far exceeded our expectations. Owners were wonderful and extremely helpful.
