About Kate Frick

Hello! We are David and Kate. We live close by in Frederick, MD along with most of our adult children and grandchildren. We are nature lovers and outdoor adventurers and would love to share our dream cabin with you.

Kate Frick purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Kate Frick chose Berkeley Springs

Sleepy Creek Cabin is a dream come true for us. Something about the mixture of arts, wellness, and natural beauty of Berkeley Springs kept us returning to this historic town. We finally decided we had to have a place of our own. When we first arrived at the cabin, saw the view of the water right from the deck, the privacy of the woods, and the beauty of the vaulted ceilings within, we knew this place was 'the one'. We lovingly renovated the cabin to what we refer to as 'Rustic Luxury'. No where on earth have we felt the peace as at Sleepy Creek Cabin and we hope to pass that on and let others experience the unique serenity this special place has to offer.

What makes this cabin unique

Complete privacy is what you will experience. Sitting on the deck facing the creek you will not see another house or cabin. If you need a break from life in the fast lane, this is it. We love the fact that within 10-15 minutes we can be in town to eat at fine restaurants, tour art galleries, antique shops, or get a massage. Also close by are local parks to boat, fish, hike, run, bike, or ride horses. It truly is the best of all worlds.

Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5
This cabin was beautiful, very accommodating while maintaining it's nostalgic ambiance. Indoor/out we gave it an A+, it was nothing short of what I had expected. My husband & I really enjoyed our stay, it was peaceful, clean, cozy, & this worked in our budget as well. We especially loved the layout, furnishings were in great condition & we were surprised with a "winter wonderland" of about 5" of snow which I took a bunch of photos, looked like a postcard, I would do it all over again.
Best Regards, The Brady's

Quiet. Clean. Relaxing.

Looking to unwind? Hoping for some R&R in an idyllic spot? Want to get into nature for a while? This is the spot!

The house is just great and the owners do quite a job keeping it clean and stocked with all you will need (minus you and some food).

The creek is feet from the house and provides the perfect backdrop for a dream vacation.

Owner's Response: Hi Patrick, the creek is indeed close - 20 feet or so? It does offer a chance to be still and listen to the beautiful sounds of nature.

We're both delighted you enjoyed your stay and hope you'll return.

Peaceful Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed our stay of 5 nights at Sleepy Creek Cabin and were sorry to see our time there end. We found the cabin to be very clean and comfortable. The covered porch was great and we made good use of it when it rained a bit of the time we were there. We loved the creek side setting close to nature and were thrilled one lazy morning to spot two great blue herons flying/following Sleepy Creek downstream. We biked on the Western Maryland Rail Trail and the C&O Canal Towpath. We were glad we made the effort to hike to and through Paw Paw Tunnel in the rain as we found the history behind the tunnel fascinating. We enjoyed dining at Panorama at the Peak one evening. On one especially rainy day we drove from Hancock to Cumberland via the scenic Old National Highway (US 40 & 40A) and enjoyed the radiant fall foliage when there were breaks in the clouds. Along the way we stopped at Rocky Gap State Park and hiked around beautiful Lake Habeeb. After active days of biking and hiking, the cabin was very welcoming to come back to. We cooked several meals in the well equipped kitchen. We wound down most evenings with a movie viewed on the flat screen t.v.

Initially we had booked the cabin for 4 nights. Now we are so glad Kate let us know a night had opened up and we could come a day earlier! We wish we could have stayed longer and we hope to come back to Sleepy Creek Cabin in the future.

Owner's Response: Wow Janet, you should be a tour guide :). We learned a lot about the area from your posts, now we want to check out the Paw Paw tunnel.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you have a chance to return. We too love the bike paths, hiking and even running the many hills and side roads. It is wonderful to enjoy the gifts nature offers.

Sleepy Creek Cabin

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I have never had the experience of renting someone's home for a short get-away, so we weren't sure what to expect. We both have stressful jobs, and were looking for a place to rest, relax and rejuvenate. Sleepy Creek Cabin was the perfect choice.

The cabin was welcoming and clean. It was very quiet, and had everything we needed - seclusion, deck chairs, creek, full kitchen, comfy beds, comfy chairs, hot shower - perfect. We were there for 3 nights, and hope to go back for a week next summer.

If you want a "working vacation," I would not recommend this cabin. No wireless internet connection, weak cell phone service - again, just *exactly* what we needed to really unplug and unwind. If you're looking for a place to to simply enjoy life - I highly recommend Sleepy Creek Cabin in Berkeley Springs.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind comments Marisa. We deliberated getting internet and opted not to for the very reason you mention. When someone wishes to 'disconnect' we wanted to accomdate their desire. For us, it means we are able to focus on one another and the moment. We lived without 24x7 social interaction in the past and we wanted to the cabin to represent a reprieve from our fast-paced routine.

Hope y'all come back!

Part of a great vacation

Loved it! Clean and well maintained. Owner very helpful and willing to answer questions. We rode bikes on the C & O Trail and the Maryland Trail. Visited Antietam. Shopped some local art shops in Berkely Springs. And thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet at the cabin. Everything we needed was there for us. Great trip

Owner's Response: Thank you Scott! We love bringing our bikes and riding both the C&O and the Maryland Rail Trail which is paved and parallels the C&O.

We are so glad you came and were able to enjoy both the cabin and the general area and hope you come back soon.

Thank you,

Wonderful Respite in the Woods

  • 5 of 5
My husband, sister, and I spent ten days at Sleepy Creek Cabin in early September. This was our second visit, having spent a week there in 2013. Obviously we loved it since we returned for a longer visit this time!

The cabin was as presented in VRBO; however, one cannot appreciate the beauty of the building from the outside. The inside is glorious with beautiful wood cathedral ceilings and a lovely loft which my sister used as her "apartment." The owners were helpful with directions and provided extra linens for our "guest." The cabin was very clean and well-maintained with a wonderful covered porch and open deck.

My husband and I spent our fifteenth anniversary at the cabin and went out for dinner at Panorama at the Peak, a restaurant not to be missed. I had a vegan entree (stuffed squash), and my husband had what he described as "best crab cake ever"! We had a couple of superb lunches at Fairfax Coffee House, but made most of our own meals.

We traveled to Cacapon State Park, Martinsburg, and Hedgesville. Last year we went to Antietam, but this year, we traded history for relaxation. Everywhere we went, whether we were shopping or walking along the street, people were friendly and welcoming. Manners are much nicer here than in the North where we live!

We enjoyed a recent-release movie at the local theater on a Monday afternoon. This is an old building that even has sofas in the back for easy sitting! There seemed to be a regular group of folks who attend this Monday matinee. We visited Frog Valley, an amazing collection of artisans' work, and also spent time in many other galleries and shops. We even drove over to Paw Paw, a long, winding roadway and definitely not really worth the time and gas. My husband was interested in the canal history, but, aside from a small park dedicated to the canal, Paw Paw has little to recommend it to the traveler.

The cabin itself, however, was the main draw for us. The privacy and quiet are what we seek in a vacation. All three of us were able to gradually ease back from out daily lives and enjoy the freedom and beauty of the cabin, the creek, and the firepit.

We would recommend this cabin for those who are like us -- people who enjoy natural beauty and peace.

Owner's Response: Wow Cheryl, thank you for your kind review and so glad you were able to return. We hope you come back again!

We love Berkeley Springs and the word that comes to mind is eclectic, but in a warm and charming way. I hope others read your review and are able to take advantage of your comments re: places to visit (or not) and places to eat. We too love Panorama on the Peak - great food and one of the best sunsets ever. We agree about Paw Paw - very interesting name, but.....

Thank you again Cheryl and please do come back again. Oh, and the loft? Our favorite part of the cabin.
