Your perfect Rocky Mountain vacation at Deer Mountain Estate is waiting for you. Welcome!
We live and work in Wyoming. Deer Mountain Estate will be our retirement home in a few years but for now you are welcome to enjoy it. It is a great place to entertain our family and friends, walking the 355 miles of park trails, or maybe just a scenic drive on the highest continuously paved highway in the US.
Curtis Lee Wells purchased this estate in 2012
For the last a few years, we have been looking for a dream retirement place. Our house has everything. Close to the Park, close to the down town, the privacy of a cul-de-sac, and the best views in Estes Park. Nothing better than having a breakfast on the private patio and enjoying the views into the Park or the sunset from the deck in the evening.
From our back yard you can get on a game trail, walk to the top of the hill and be on the Rocky Mountain National Park trail system. You may go to the Beaver Meadows Entrance (1.5mi) and hop on a bus and ride all day--why not--It's free.
Amazing Views and incredible hosts. My wife and I visisted Estes Park in April 2014 and couldnt wait to return with another couple to share our find. We picked Deer Mountain Estate for the view and accomodations and couldnt have been more pleased. This property is at the end of a cul-de-sac overlooking a bit of the valley with incredible views from the deck. Starting our mornings early with a cup of coffee on the deck listening to the elk bugle in the valleys below is hard to describe. The master bedroom is more like a suite with it's signicant size, large bathroom and walk in closet. We liked that the hottub was located right off of the Master Bedroom. The location couldnt have been better! My wife loved the big dining room table that offered a mountaing view and was right next to the fireplace. A short drive to RMNP (2 minutes) and only a few minute drive to the restaurants as well. As I mentioned, we traveled as 2 adult couples for our trip in September and are looking forward to traveling back in late June to early July with our daughters and know that Deer Mountain Estate will be the perfect spot! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Our 2 adult children gathered with my husband and me for a truly lovely Thanksgiving. The Cub Lake and Gem Lake hikes were spectacular, and the house is comfortable and inviting. We cooked a turkey dinner in the kitchen and served it by the fire.
This is a wonderful house to rent for your mountain vacation. This house was in a great location, just out of town and very close to the park entrance. It's at the end of a road and up a good distance so it's very private (even though there was a house next door). The views are fabulous and it was very peaceful sitting on the deck looking at the scenery.
The house was very clean and spacious and had plenty of linens. The master bedroom was huge and comfortable. If upstairs gets too warm, go downstairs, it's much cooler. Temperature was comfortable for us but it wasn't that hot out.
My hubby was pleased with the new pool table. I tried to figure out the TV downstairs to watch net flicks but couldn't get it too work Maybe better directions next to the TV would help. We did use the hot tub. It was just ok. It's small and some of the jets didn't work but it was clean and felt good after a long hike. There is a very nice sitting area right next to the hot tub just outside the master bedroom, great for reading a book and relaxing.
My one complaint would be that it wasn't really stocked that well. It had plenty of dishes but could use some more pots and pans. It also didn't have very many condiments which most rental houses stock. We only cook breakfast so it wasn't a big deal for us. There is a grocery store at the end of the road so it you do need something you don't have to go too far. There is also a great restaurant for breakfast (The Other Side Restaurant) right next to the store.
Overall this is a great rental and I highly recommend it. I would definitely stay here again if I am in this area.
Summary: Great place to stay for a family of 7: 2 grandparents (mid 60s); 2 parents (30s); 3 kids (4,3,1). One of our favorite vacations of the last 10 years. Will be back in a heartbeat.
Location: Phenomenal. Tucked away off of Hwy 36, so easy access to sites (RMNP 2 mi away), but still secluded. Only traffic noise is the occasional ambulance siren. The property and surrounding area well maintained with sites that small kids will find interesting to explore.
Cabin: Spacious and sturdily constructed, clean and comfortable. Rooms were well proportioned and appropriately furnished. Suitable rustic decor. Master bedroom with large walk in closet. Deck provides a breathtaking view of surrounding Estes Park.
Cabin did get warm (84 degrees internal) on a day it got up to 87. Adjusting the thermostat did not improve things, but I did not consult the owner its use. The portable AC unit in the loft functioned well. The cabin cooled quickly in the late evening as external temperatures dove.
Deck also provided fantastic view of night sky/stars, which we Dallasites rarely get to see. There were many bats flying to/from the eaves of the cabin roof - residents?
Amenities: High chair and pack 'n play (playpen) on site and most appreciated. We actually put the pack 'n pay in the walk-in closet, which is really the size of a small room. Perfect place for a 1 yr old to catch a his z's.
Lots of puzzles and board games, and a well kept pool table for entertainment.
Wifi worked fine. We did not use the TV/video.
Didn't use the jacuzzi.
Propane grill worked well. Cooked fish we caught from a nearby stock pond, which was good fun for the kids.
Convection stove cooked hot. Oven functioned appropriately. Plenty of dishes available for large families and a dishwasher to take care of the mess afterwards. Supplies for dishwasher and washing machine are provided by owner.
Owner: communicates well and easy to get ahold of.
This house has great views of the nearby mountains and was perfect for our family to relax. The kitchen allowed us to prepare simple meals that we enjoyed together. The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park was within 2 miles and we loved our hikes.
My family of 7 couldn't have asked for a more perfect home. There was plenty of room with loads to spare! The views alone were the reason we selected this beautiful cabin. The 180 degree view of the mountains changes continuously, and you can watch from the spacious deck or from many rooms in the house. Plus you are close enough to town to run out on a quick errand. The owner, Lee, is very friendly and quick to respond to questions. I hope to stay here again in the future!
There is a game trail at the corner of the house that leads uphill to RMNP on the Deer Mountain Trail.
The Beaver Meadow Entrance to RMNP is 2 miles down the hill with a free shuttle that tours the park.
A grocery store and several restaurants are about 1 mile.
The downtown river walk parking is about 2 miles.
