PAPA JIM'S PLACE, A 1930'S CRACKER HOUSE WITH PLENTY OF AMENITIES

Cedar Key Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Papa Jim's Place is a lovely 1930's Cedar Key Cracker House, updated with all the amenities a couple or family could want for a relaxing visit.

Since this is our family's 2nd home, we keep it ready to use, with everything from dishes and cookware to DVD's for the evenings, and board games for the kids.

Built in the mid-1930's on a double lot, Papa Jim's Place has plenty of space for the whole family to spread out. A large semi-fenced back yard gives the kids a place to play, or a great sunning location. Just yards away are the public park, with a playground for your children, and the public beach just steps past that.

Almost all of Cedar Key is within walking distance of the house; being not even a block off main street, you're just moments from award-winning food (think Tony's World Champion clam chowder), all the art shops, curio stores, and second-hand you can stand! On Dock street you'll find daytime fun and more shops, and in the evenings, plenty of nightlife and live music.

Within walking distance is golf cart rental, boat rental and tours, and a marina if you bring your own boat.

For hunters and fishing fans, check with us ahead of time for recommendations if you need, for local captains and hunting guides we enjoy spending time with.

With central heat and A/C, you'll be comfortable regardless of the outside temperature. We enjoy a nice morning breakfast with family in the Florida room, watching the world wake up out the large windows.

We welcome you to our home, and ask that you make yourself comfortable and treat it as your own during your stay. If you have any questions or comments, please make sure to call or email us.

About Taggert

Local to the region, our family lives and plays in the area. Our primary home is just a quick drive from Papa Jim's, but secluded in the woods. We use Papa Jim's ourselves all the time, to get some fun time on the water.

Cedar Key is still lie the community of old, where everyone knows our kids, you better drive under the speed limit, and you can still walk anywhere worth going!

Taggert purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Taggert chose Cedar Key

This home was in our family, and we purchased it when we had the opportunity. With a wealth of local festivals and eateries, we're never at a loss for something to do when we hang out in Cedar Key. And neither will you be. From the sedate to the active, and all in-between, there something for everyone in the family.

What makes this cottage unique

Though there are condo's on Cedar Key, they are not our style. We prefer the quiet, informal, and homey nature of our house. Built in the 1930's, it has all the charm of old Florida, but with the updated amenities we all crave. Sit on the front porch and watch the world go by, and feel free to use your laptop with our free Wi-Fi. Though not a mansion, we have comfortably stayed at the house with friends, and the kids always bring friends along when we visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Gorgeous cottage, right in the perfect location. Across the street from the park, the beach and in walking distance to everything downtown... THANK YOU for such an awesome little place!

Birthday Weekend

  • 4 of 5
Very much enjoyed our weekend stay. Location was perfect. Walking distance to everything! We visited during the annual Art Festival and were pleasantly surprise that the crowds weren't over whelming. The house has lots of charm and the updated bathroom is great. We would definitely rent again! Thank you so much.

Relaxation at its best!

  • 5 of 5
I came to "Papa Jims Place" with an open mind. It seems most of old Florida is gone, so I was not expecting much in the way of old Florida Charm. But was I ever wrong. The house is small, probably about 900sq ft, and definitely older, but had loads of old florida charm. Less than a block from the recently restored Cedar Key Beach, and 2 blocks from dang neared everything else- it was perfect. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the owners do a good job of making it easy to feel "at home". The house on the inside is a good mix of antique and charming, mixed with modern and useable. We had our 2 kids with us, and they absolutely loved the place too! I really liked that they tried hard to make you feel at home. The next time I am in the area, I will definitely stay there again, and I will be able to walk in, throw my bags down, and feel at home.

Mine and my wife's favorite get away

The location is perfect- right by city beach and all of the restaurants but far enough away to not be bothered by late night noises. For the price you won't do better, AC was crispy, fridge was big and had all the comforts of home. Very clean and cozy. Am trying to get my boss to rent this place for a company party/fishing weekend. Any time I have friends looking for a place to stay in Cedar Key I always steer them towards this place!

Owner's Response: We're very sorry you didn't like Cedar Key. However, we can't affect any change on the community. Most folks who come to CK for a visit are looking for exactly what you mention. A sleepy, casual town with very little hustle and bustle.
To address your specific problems with our property, we really have to show our surprise. Though the TV does not pick up local stations, as there aren't any, there are over 80 stations available on both tv's, including Netflix, HULU Plus, and Amazon, all free of charge to our guests, which is documented on-site in our binder of information. The windows *do* have blinds, with many of them even having double sets of blinds. The tin roof is...a tin roof. Most folks find it relaxing or romantic. And like most of Cedar Key, our on-site parking is in the road; approximately 15 feet or less from the front door. So very sorry that distance was inconvenient.

The only house on the road, we're out of the local traffic pattern, but still within walking distance to all the local restaurants and shops. There is a golf cart rental establishment within a block for those so inclined.

Cedar Key has something for everyone. Relaxation and quiet, fishing, boating, a museum and library, award-winning foods, plenty of quaint shops for your browsing, scenic drives all around the island, and all the fresh seafood and clams you could ever want!
