About Carol Costello

Interior Designer with hopes of retiring soon!!!

Carol Costello purchased this house in 2010

Why Carol Costello chose Marblehead

Marblehead is just an amazing place to live, offering so many activites, the ocean, shopping, and great restaurants. My house, although small, has everything I ever wanted. Just enough room, a pretty neighborhood, a private yard, and every convenience to make it comfortable, and so close to the water. A friend once told me that she feels 'hugged' when she is visiting. It is a happy and cheerful home!

What makes this house unique

***recently someone asked about the 'rail-trail' shown on the property location map. There is now a bike/walk path past the fence/trees of my yard that goes a long distance in either direction for an enjoyable trek. But there are no actual rail tracks!!

As promised, well appointed and lovely cottage, convenient walk to beach

  • 4 of 5

Clean, well appointed with all the necessary modern conveniences on a quiet street. Small but comfortable with a nice yard and grille when you need to serve a meal to more than four at a time. About 5 minute walk to Preston beach and a short drive to downtown historic Marblehead. For visiting friends and family in the area, this was perfect for our family of four (including two teenagers).

As cute as they come

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage during a girl's Fall weekend getaway. The smartly designed and beautifully decorated cottage was absolutely perfect for the four of us and great proximity to Marblehead shopping, scenic beach walks, and even Salem. We couldn't have been happier; the pictures really don't do it justice!

I Love Marblehead in the Fall!

  • 5 of 5

This quaint little house was everything it was promised to be and more! After traveling for 2 weeks by RV we were scheduled to spend 4 days here and we couldn't have asked for anything better! The house was welcoming with various notes/instructions from the owner in important places so we didn't feel lost when it came to simple things, like…using the washer/dryer, which remote went to which TV, how to control the temperature, and where the best places to eat were. The owners sense of style was both comfortable and classy! The beds were super comfy, though the bedroom with the two twin beds was a bit small and there were no screens on the windows. We like a little fresh air at night and were visited by a dragonfly who really didn't want to leave (just like us!) The Living Room was larger than expected though it really would have been nice if the fireplace had worked. My favorite room was the sunroom which is where we spent a good deal of time, eating, planning our days, and just relaxing at the end of our vacation. The best part was the morning we took a walk around the neighborhood to collect leaves and see the ocean. All the neighbors were friendly and even the drivers in the area stopped without Stop signs to let me cross on my mobility scooter. This was a very pleasant surprise! I would have loved to have spent more time and if the occasion arises, we may be back! The owner was wonderful though we never had the chance to meet her in person. We texted and passed notes and she was very accommodating to our special needs. It was perfectly situated so we could visit Salem, Boston and the surrounding areas easily yet felt perfectly at home and away from the busy city at night.

I would definitely recommend this property even to people with minor disabilities. I have arthritis but had no difficulty stepping up the one step to the front door or the one step down to the sunroom. It is not large enough for a person in a wheelchair however but a walker could work. There are no support bars or shower seat in the bathroom however, but there is an extenable shower head. I kept my scooter in the garage where there was room to store our luggage as well. The owner provided a garage door opener so I could come and go with ease when using my scooter.

Owner's Response: I very much appreciate reviews from my guests to understand their experiences at my home. Knowing that they enjoyed their visit is of the utmost importance to me, but also learning about anything I can do to improve the experience is very valuable! There are screens for all the rooms but I assumed (incorrectly!!) that the warm weather had passed so I had begun to take them down and wash the windows for winter. I think next year I will wait much longer to do this! I have considered grab bars in the bathroom and that will be a priority to get accomplished over the winter while I am back home. My favorite room is the "sunroom" as well. When I am there alone, I put an easy chair in there for reading and coffee and would be happy to stay put! When there are 4 guests however, usually the table needs to be opened fully to accommodate everyone. Thank you for the review and please come again!! Carol

Cosy and cute cottage

  • 5 of 5

For a family of 4, with two teenagers, this lovely little cottage was an ideal place to stay and visit Boston and surroundings. It was very clean and cosy and fully equipped with everything you needed. The weather was hot during our stay, and it was great to be able to relax in the garden aswell. Carol has lots of information on Marblehead and Boston, we followed much of her advice and had a great time. Eating at "the Landing" was great, we were enjoying the maritime festival, we went to Boston several times to do some great sightseeing and we visited Salem and its witches. A great place to be when you want to be close enough to a city and enjoy some quiet time at the sea shore!

charming little house

  • 4 of 5

My mother and I enjoyed our all-too-brief stay at this lovely little cape house. It was very comfortable and everything we needed was provided. We would definitely book this house again and maybe this time we would have enough time to check out the cute little beach that is only 5 mins away. I loved the fact that the "rail trail" runs right behind the house so you can get great exercise in the morning on this terrific walking/running/cycling path that runs from the Swampscott line all the way through Marblehead!

A Charming Destination For A Small Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of 2 adults and 1 child from Australia looking for a base to explore the Boston area during a 4 week tour of the US. Carol the owner was very attentive to our needs and made sure our stay went as smoothly as possible. The house was very clean and well appointed and everything worked well. The house sleeps four comfortably and was all we needed for our stay. The beach is only five minutes walk away and Carol had beach chairs for us to use if we needed. She provided lots of written information regarding Boston and New England and helpful information about the house and washing machine/dryer etc. A trip to Concord is a must, lunch at the Clam Box in Ipswich is a fun thing to do and take some time to explore the old town of Marblehead. If you want to explore Boston and have a car, then use the multistorey car park at Wonderland Station and take the Blue Line into Boston. The listing photos accurately reflected Carol's place and we would recommend it to anyone needing a quite suburban location from which to explore the surrounding area.
