House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 10)

The home is a perfect family retreat with 10 wooded acres at the end of a private gravel road on 320 feet of lakefront.

The home is meticulously maintained and decorated, with a panoramic view of Elk Lake from the Great Room and attached wrap-around deck. The main level contains an enormous master bedroom with King bed, and large bath with walk-in shower. The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped and has a breakfast bar seating three. The dining area seats 10 and looks out to the lake at sunset. There is a screened porch with easy chairs for reading and a twin bed for napping. A gas Weber grill is available for use. The powder room and extra large laundry room are located next to the kitchen. The main level has a library stocked with hundreds of books for rainy day reading, and a twin bed. There is a hot tub at the secluded end of the wrap-around deck.

The lower level has three bedrooms, a large family entertainment area, a full bath with two sinks, and walks out to the yard and steps down to the dock. One bedroom has 3 twin beds, one room has a queen size bed, and one has 2 twin beds. There are also 2 queen size deluxe instantly inflatable mattresses.

For at-home entertainment, there are the usual multimedia devices as well as old-fashioned table board games. Enjoy reeading a good book beside the wood-burning fireplace, and/or a bottle of wine from one of the many nearby wineries open throughout the year. You can cross-country ski right out the front door, or drive 15 minutes to Bellaire's Shanty Creek Ski Resort for downhill skiing. Boyne and Nub's Nob are approximately 45 minutes away.

We are 'Down-staters' (lower Michigan residents) or 'Flatlanders,' as Northern Michigan folks call us! This is our dream house, purchased as a legacy for our children and grandchildren. The place is truly incredible. You'll be completely enchanted, as we were the first time we visited, when a fawn came up to greet us!

This property is unique in that it has both acres of woods and more than three hundred feet of private lakefront. There is virtually no 'traffic' on the lake, and being at the end of a private road provides seclusion. If you want an oasis of calm in a secluded setting but near great restaurants and entertainment, this is your best bet.

What makes this house unique

From the moment you enter the house, you are greeted with a panoramic view of aquamarine Elk Lake, which becomes a prism of pinks, blues and violets during the late summer sunsets after nine or ten pm.

We are located on the southeastern shore of Elk Lake, just west of Torch Lake, between the towns of Kewadin and Alden. Elk feeds into Torch via the Torch River. The quaint town of Elk Rapids hosts 'Harbor Days' in early August and has several art fairs during the summer. It also has a wonderful marina, a public beach, a movie theater and a highly rated restaurant, Siren Hall, serving fresh fish caught the very same day in Lake Michigan. The nearby town of Bellaire offers 20 local craft brews at Shorts Brewing Company. Approximately 15 minutes away is the Grand Traverse Resort's top-rated golf course and day spa. Downtown Traverse City boasts some of the finest dining in the state as well as the famous film festival in late July.

Beautiful home!!

My family recently "congregated" at this beautiful Elk Rapids home for a weekend. Despite the very cold, rainy weather we had much of the weekend, it was wonderful just to spend time together in such a warm, comfortable home. It is very spacious and was more than enough room for all of us. We spent a lot of time just sitting around the wonderfully large dining room table (I come from a family of 8 kids), telling stories and catching up with each other. Listening to one of my brothers play the piano was an added bonus!! The owner, Carol, couldn't have been more pleasant to work with. She answered all our questions before we all descended on Shippey Lane! Our only disappointment was having to leave on Sunday. Our stay was short but wonderful. Thank you, Carol, for sharing your beautiful home with my family and me!

JUST GOT BACK FROM ELK LAKE AND A AMAZING VACTION .THIS HOUSE WAS GREAT WE HAD 13 PEOPLE AND THERE WAS PLENTY OF SPACE. THIS PLACE HAS EVERYTHING U NEED FOR A GREAT VACTION . ARE KIDS LOVED THE DOCK AND PADDLE BOAT. I WOULD RENT THIS HOUSE IN A SECOND!!! THANKS SO MUCH CAROL

Fantastic House

This is a wonderful house. We really felt like house guests when we were there rather than renters. The house is totally equipped with everything you need and the owners are so friendly about sharing their home. The location on Elk Lake is fabulous. It is tucked in the woods on a nice size lot so it is very private and peaceful. The rooms were perfect for our group. All of the beds are extremely comfortable. The master bedroom is spacious and has a gorgeous view and a big bathroom and closet area. The "girls" room with the 3 twin beds is precious and complete with a doll house for the kids to play with. The "boys" room had lots of space and sleeping options. The queen bedroom was a nice second master bedroom for our group. And the "sleeping porch" gave our nanny her own space right near the kitchen. The dock was equipped with a boat lift and made docking our boat super easy. The hot tub is situated just right so when we looked up through the trees - there was the big dipper. Amazing. Our stay was perfect in pretty much every way. We had such a great time and will probably return next year.

Spent a long weekend in this gorgeous home...exceptional home and quite frankly felt it was underpriced! I have rented through VRBO for many years and you don't come across a gem like this very often. Clean and immaculate, even space for our small little dog! If you are looking for a place for your family reunion this is it. Your children will love the pizza delivery by boat! Wonderful hostess Carol will see to all your needs. onot ask for more. Will definitely be back.
