Stay at Villa in Cavtat, nr Dubrovnik

We weren't sure what to expect before we arrived as the description of the property and photos were limited, compared to other properties on the owners direct website. So we were very happy to find out that the villa was new and spotlesslessly clean. It was very large and comfortable, with modern, minimalist decor which actually made it all the more relaxing and calm. The kitchen was reasonably well equipt but, as we usually find in holiday homes, the knives weren't sharp and there was only a tiny little chopping board. This was the only criticism, otherwise we spent a lovely 2 weeks in glorious sunshine. The villa is at the end of a residential road currently being developed so extraordinarily quiet and about 20 mins downhill to the town centre (not so easy walking back up!) and only 5 mins to the nearest supermarket. The villa overlooks the sea and as we were on the first floor the fantastic view from our south-facing balcony kept us amused for hours - we could see the walls of Old Dubrovnik and the many luxury yachts sailing in and out of Dubrovnik and Cavtat harbours. Bozo came to keep the pool clean a few times and could answer any questions about where to go as he grew up in Cavtat, although his English is a bit shaky. The pool is lovely but a bit small for 3 families and so we had to take it in turns to swim. There wasn't any shade by the pool when we were there but a vine growing over the patio should be established by next year. The garden was newly planted with olive trees, lavender, thyme and rosemary which gave off a lovely smell. Cavtat itself was very pretty and caters well for tourist with great restaurants and a few places to swim. The local boys constantly practising waterpolo also kept us amused! The Croatians we met couldn't have been more cheerful and everyone spoke English really well. There were lots of places to visit and Dubrovnik is only 20 mins drive away - or an hour by boat. For information, we were a family of 4 with children aged 14 and 11. Just writing this now makes me want to go back and visit again! It was a truly fabulous holiday!
Owner's Response: The issues of knives and chopping boards will be resolved as we see fit over the winter. The pool will be enlarged over the next year. To make it adequate for a mixture of groups. In original design it was always meant for one large group of friends/family, but as the demand for smaller groups of families was high, we have had to compromise.
I'm glad the location, views and the surroundings sell themselves as it is truly lovely.
