Enjoy the charm of old Mexico at the Villa de Cortez condos, located adjacent to the Palmas de Cortez Hotel grounds in the sleepy village of Los Barriles. As a guest at the condo, you have full access to all the activities and services offered by Hotel Palmas de Cortez, which include world class big-game fishing, winter time wind surfing and kiteboarding, diving, snorkeling, zipline, excursions, ATV, kayaking, sunset cruises, executive 9 hole golf and spa services. Though the East Cape region is world famous as literally the best place to catch a striped marlin, and one of the most economical big game fishing destinations anywhere, it also has much to offer the entire family.
A quaint friendly safe community exists in Los Barriles, and with many restaurant and shopping choices in walking distance, you do not need to rent a car. However, there are wonderful areas to explore if you do have a vehicle, such as the Cabo Pulmo Marine Preserve and reef, or the nightlife of Cabo San Lucas.
This studio condo is located on the second floor, south corner unit, providing sweeping unobstructed views of the pool and Sea of Cortez. Enjoy sitting on the balcony watching the boats return from the day’s fishing, or relax by one of the pools in a scene right out of a Corona commercial. You can be as active or as relaxed as you want in Los Barriles, where you will feel that you have entered a time warp into old Mexico, almost as Cabo was 35 years ago. There is free Wifi in the room and hotel lobby, so you don’t have to lose touch, unless of course you want to.
The town of Los Barriles is located just 40 minutes north of the San Jose del Cabo airport, with plenty of taxis for transportation or rental car options. This condo is unit 1201, and features a king sized bed, fold out sofa, travertine floors, granite counters, kitchen, refrigerator/freezer, wine cooler, cozy dining area, and relaxing rocking chairs on the balcony.
My family and I have been traveling to Los Barriles for the last 31 years, and have fallen in love with this part of Mexico. We decided to purchase this condo when construction had just commenced, and have enjoyed it ever since. It's an incredibly safe, relaxing area, with so much to offer. Just a 2 hour flight from the US, but such a fantastic mental break from the rat race.
As the corner unit in the condo on the second floor, unit 1201, the views are completely unobstructed. It has one of the larger studio unit balconys, and the second floor provides the perfect combination of elevation for a view, yet only one floor to go up.
This was a perfect place for my husband and I. It is so quiet and peaceful. Don has thoughtfully provided rocking chairs on the balcony to relax and watch the ocean. We hardly ever heard another person or vehicle. Our 4 day weekend included Baja-ing up an arroyo to a waterfall and out to Puenta Pescado, fishing along the coast, and snorkeling with sea lions, sardines, and turtles in the Parque Nationale. Amazingly, everywhere we went we encountered very few people, so it was very private and personal. Don's tips on the local establishments were right on target. Everything you could want is within walking distance. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. This was the best birthday weekend I've had for many, many years.
We spent 12 great days here in December. Great unit for a couple to kick back and totally relax. Everything went smooth from check in to departure and Don's suggestions for the area were very good. We rented a quad for the duration and really enjoyed it. Can't wait to return again. Thanks.
Don, just got back from our annual fishing trip. Really enjoyed staying at your condo. Excellent views, great location, and very upscale from the Van Wormer accommodations we usually book. Also the information and tips you sent were very helpful. Café Maria's (2 miles out of town) has been our favorite restaurant over the years but your tip on Campestre Triny's changed that. Hands down, we had the best meal we've ever had in Los Barriles and it's become our go to place. Thanks again.
You know how it usually takes the first day or two of a vacation to slow-down, relax, and truly enjoy a vacation? Well, no time was wasted “decompressing” here! We checked in, and sat down to a couple of cool drinks at the bar overlooking the beach. The sound of waves lapping yards from our table and watching the anchored boats bob gently just offshore, made our stress evaporate with the light breeze coming off the Sea of Cortez. In a matter of minutes we were truly “on vacation.”
Any trace of doubt that we had made the right choice disappeared when walking into the condo. The beautiful décor was only exceeded by the stunning views of the sea and the coastline of the Bay of Palms. I am almost hesitant to share a review feeling this should be a well-guarded secret. Even so, this is the only way I can think to thank our host Don for his help, advice, and simply allowing us to enjoy his beautiful condo. That, and knowing there are others who, like my wife and I, are in need of a restorative break that is the perfect balance of blissful relaxation and genuine adventure.
We relaxed, ate amazing food, met interesting people, made friends, and redefined quality time together. We were also able to enjoy what we love individually. She was able to read several books, completely undisturbed by anything other than the view, or me waving from the beach after catching yet another fish. The fly-fishing from the beach and panga were both excellent. I caught my first (3) dorado, and had several chances at hooking roosterfish. Just seeing them chase the fly was heart-stopping. What I will never forget though, is seeing dorado change colors from electric blue to gold to green and back. As amazing as that was, while playing my biggest dorado (glinting gold in the sun as it jumped) I saw a huge manta ray “surfing” inside a wave passing a few feet from the boat! That vision is permanently burned into the “incredible life moment” list.
That’s the conundrum of East Cape. If you want adventure, there is simply too much to experience. Yet simply doing nothing at all is so enjoyable and feels like the most worthy activity of all. We did not get a chance to snorkel at Cabo Pulmo, rent an ATV, kayak, or windsurf, but will save those for next time.
What a wonderful place to visit. We watched whales, fished, golfed, snorkeled and played tennis. Everyone we met was friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us. Don and Cate are exceptional hosts. They set us up with everything from a taxi to a list of the best restaurants. The view from the balcony is stunning! Put this one on your list of places to go, you won't be disappointed.
My two friends and I went in February to get away from the cold weather and enjoy everything Mexico has to offer. When we arrived at the Villa and stepped into the condo we immediately saw the magnificent view. Almost every day we could see wild life like fish and whales jumping in the sea in front of us. The pool, attached restaurant and bar were amazing and the Sea of Cortez was warm and wonderful. The beach was clean and had plently of room for you to have privacy and enjoy. The town was very cute and quaint and had plenty to do and explore for us. We rented an ATV and ventured into the mountain area to a beautiful waterfall and drove along the beach. It was a blast and I would definetly recooment it. If your looking for a more laid back vacation out of the hussle of Cabo then I would definetly recommend this wonderful town and condo.
