-Old Pahoa has (Thai ,Mex ,Italian, Pizza,&American).restaurants Olympic size pool,Library video rentals just 3 mile away, a mini mall with food, drug, hardware, fast food stores just one more mile down the road;
- Farmer's markets wed.5:00 pm at Kalapana, Sunday in Pahoa, & Maku'u on highway 130 by Hawaiian Beaches sub.(7 am to mid afternoon,music,local food, fruit & vegetables);
-Lava tree state park;
-Issac Hale park (local surfers,geothermal heated water,picnic grounds);
-Hilo - discover water front parks, shopping, tsunami museum;
-Hawaii tropical botanical garden north of Hilo;
-Waipio valley;
-there are many things to do, these are just a few. I would go to library or buy the book Big Island Revealed , it covers the whole Island very well.
