Guestbook comments from the owner

DJ, thanks for the hiking suggestions. You have been so helpful with dining & hiking suggestions. We have never had a home-owner go to such lengths to make sure our stay is delightful. You have gone above & beyond to help make our visit perfect. We appreciate all you have done. We are looking forward to our visit in your lodge. My college roommate, from 42 years ago & her husband are meeting us there. We are excited about our weekend together in the Highlands. Sincerely, Kay

High on the Hog at Hunters Lodge in Highlands

  • 5 of 5

Magnificent 180 degree views. We watched the moon come up over the barn, the sun rise over the mountains and saw spectacular sunsets without having to leave the deck. We loved having total privacy with no signs of habitation in view and the only sounds coming from the birds singing and the mountain stream and falls in the valley below. Yet it's an easy 15-20 minute scenic drive to downtown Highlands through a National Forest along a beautiful mountain trout stream with waterfalls dotting the route. The deep covered porch area on the deck provides protection from elements and its tin roof plays a wonderful tune when it rains. We loved the new infrared outdoor gas grill. The large round outdoor dining table is sturdy and comfortably seats 6, The Kitchen is gourmet and fully stocked with every imaginable top end utensil, appliance and do-dad. The easy to operate indoor and outdoor gas fireplaces take the chill off and add romance. Beds are comfortable and the linens luxurious. Great, large TV's with excellent pictures lots of channels and extras and wireless internet that is simple to access and actually works. This truly is a lodge and is impressive in its stature, design, and furnishings. There are many nice touches like having the game room off kitchen and great room instead of in the basement. We appreciated the good paved roads to the property, the paved driveway and a real manicured lawn with flowers. The large level paved parking area and covered drive through entrance and level walk in are a bonus. None of us had a single bug bite after a week. We played horseshoes and spent most of our time outside on the deck reading, socializing and living high on the hog at Hunters Lodge. We have been coming to the mountains for years renting many beautiful mountain homes but Dj's Hunters Lodge is the best.

Awesome Place; Highly Recommend

  • 5 of 5

My family had an excellent long weekend staying at the Hunter's Lodge. Location is great. About 10 to 15 minute drive to the Highlands downtown area. Dry Falls is right around the corner. The house is private and gives beautiful views of the mountains. Ping pong, foos ball, etc if it rains. Kids were never bored. The back deck is fully enclosed which was great for my 16 month old. She could walk around freely without us worrying about her falling off. Kitchen was very well stocked. Grills were nice as well. Furniture, bathrooms, etc were all very nice and clean.

Really don't have anything negative to say about the stay. Minor nits but will note the following:

- Cell service for this house was unreliable for us. The Sprint and Verizon users had little to no reception. The AT&T user was able to get a couple bars of service. This was fine for me because i wanted to focus on relaxing and family. If you're addicted to your might have to drive to get reception.

- The internet went out a couple times on us. The owner was very responsive and helped solve when when we first arrived. Each time it was a simple 2 minute fix of rebooting the router.

- The master bed is squeaky, but the mattress was comfortable. Any tossing and turning created a little noise with each movement. My wife and i have a tempurpedic at home and we're spoiled with quiet when we move at night. It's not uncommon for us to stay at nice hotels and find the bed underwhelming.

Overall, a wonderful weekend and great place. Would recommend and stay there again. Thanks DJ!

Beautiful view, lovely details on house

  • 5 of 5

We loved the details and wood-work on the house. Beautiful view to wake up to also. The deck was lovely, too bad it was too cold outside to enjoy! Enjoyed cooking every night in the kitchen. Great place. We look forward to staying again in the future!

Great location and Cabin

  • 4 of 5

Our vacation was great the house was beautiful and views were breathtaking the location was situated on a road that is scenic with the best views of the river and waterfalls. Our pets lived the house it was truly a home away from home. We didn't get any snow during out stay but we took the kids to scaley mountain for snow tubing & ice skating we also took a trip to Asheville about 90 minutes away to visit the Biltmore Estate which was incredible. Debra the owner of the property was very helpful in answering any questions that I had, overall great experience would recommend it to everyone.

House had it all

  • 5 of 5

Really no complaints at all about the house. It fit our needs perfectly. Going into the weekend our only concern was what the third bedroom had to offer because there were no pic's of it. When we got there we wondered why there were no pic's. The bunk room that has 3 twin beds in it was a great room. Decorated nicely had an attached bathroom and was a nice size. Would definitely stay again. Owners are/were very responsive. When we got there we had some issues with the internet, which only needed a router reboot, and the owners helped us out immediately with it. highly recommend.
