Sad ending to a families vacation!
When we arrived at this rental home we found a note with rules and only ONE house key from the owner on the kitchen table. The rental turned out to be the kiss of death because we did not do a walk thru upon arrival... We first noticed the backyard was a junk yard which had a old car parked in the back, tents, canopy and abandoned guest house, weeds, dirt and the lawn was in very poor condition. The backyard was not a place to have a bomb fire and play any outside yard games .VERY SCARY!! Then came the dog hair that we found all over the the house and on the pontoon boat.. But we said nothing at the time,since we were trying to make the best of the situation.. Then when we went to use the only shower, in the upstairs bathroom, the floor is carpeted which was smelly and wet and the owner put a fan on the floor in the bathroom trying to dry the carpet... well that was gross,,REALLY!! 10 PEOPLE TAKING SHOWERS AND HAVING TO WALK ON THE CARPET FLOOR OUTSIDE THE TUB! Then 3 days in the trip we we ran out of toilet paper and paper towels.... still no biggie,,,Again we said nothing since its a vacation and we want to make the best out of the situation... The owner had 4 packages delivered from UPS while we were there and he called to see if the packages were there,,,seems kind of odd that on our vacation we have to get his packages!!! then he has 3 phones in the house and the phones rang the whole time we were there,,,again we did not say 1 word!!! Then we were told we could checkout saturday at 11-12 We were wakened up at 10 am to voices outside the garage telling us to leave.!!. well we left and everything seemed fine until 10 days later. that brings us to this complaint.... We checked our bank stmt and found out that the owner took an additional $270 out of our bank acct with no communication to us.. so i called him and he told me that we took a key from him,,,NO YOU ONLY GAVE US ONE!! then he said that the boat was not full of gas ,,i said yes it was and he replied that he would check the boat. ,well did you not check before you billed me?? Then the kicker was that he claims that we stained a coffee table that was made from a tree trunk and cracked the table in 2 spots,,REALLY!! for that he charged us $300. Again no pictures of damage or a phone call pertaining to any of these allegations... SO THIS IS NOW WHY I AM VOICING MY CONCERNS ON THIS SITE!! NOT COOL!! NO CALL BACK FROM THE OWNER.
Owner's Response: PER THE COMPLAINT-There were no tents, the abandoned guest house is for storage, the are no weeds or dirt in the back yard, the house was just vacumed so i doubt any dog hair,
the carpet in the bathroom is fine, the fan in there is for convience and was not on when they arrived, i only provide 2 rolls of toilet paper and paper towel as a convience the rest they have to buy, there was only one message on the phone when they left, there is a sign in the home that says check out is 10am, the charges for gas was an empty can he was suppose to fill up before he left and i told him that i would fill it up, the table cost $888.00 and i charged him $300 as the estimate to repair it is $785.00. I did send him a letter explaining the charges and am now sending him pictures. What I did not say was the boat was not filled back up, I did not charge him the full repair bill on the table and $60 worth of fire wood was taken. They did not leave the house in the shape the contract specifies.When they arrived he did not have the right amount of money owed to me and shorted me $175.00, I would not rent my home to them again!!!!!
