About Sarah Van Assche
I first visited South haven almost 12 years ago and was fortunate enough to rent this place, which, at the time was a diamond in the rough. I immediately fell in love with the innate charm of the house and the area. Fortunately, it was for sale! As a Chicago based Interior Designer with over 22 years of experience, this bungalow cottage has been a labor of love for me. Over the years, I have renovated the home room by room, tweaking every detail beginning with the classic rear terrace and culminating with the addition of the charming front porch. The landscaping continues to evolve.
Sarah Van Assche purchased this cottage in 1992
Why Sarah Van Assche chose South Haven
South Haven has a unique flavor. With its perfect white beaches and sunsets, wonderful local shops and restaurants, Farmers' Market, local entertainment and nightlife, it still manages to retain a great small town 'Mayberry' personality. For me, it's the perfect place to chill -- winter, spring, summer or fall. Whenever first arrive in South Haven and unlock my door, I just say 'aahhhh!' Pure Michigan.org! There's no better place to refresh and renew.
What makes this cottage unique
I love the architecture of my home, especially the arched doorways and groin ceilings. I love my yard with all the beautiful year round perennials that offer so much color and joy. The glider on the front porch is my favorite spring/summer/fall hang-out. My reward after a long, lovely day working in the garden is a chilled glass of lemonade or white wine. The porch is the perfect venue to sit, relax and watch the world go by. No one who passes by fails to say hello. That makes it even more special!
