About Sara Klobas

We are Ryan and Sara Klobas. We have two boys, Preston (9) and Vance (6). Both of us are native Oregonians and grew up walking the sands and playing in the great waters of the Oregon Coast. Our parents moved here in the 60's and settled in to have a family. We now reside in NE Portland and LOVE Oregon!!

Sara Klobas purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Sara Klobas chose Cape Meares

We found this little pink cottage through our sister in law, who lives in Cape Meares full time. We put the word out that we were looking, and after about a year, this little gem popped up as a potential purchase. We spoke to the owner several times and soon shook hands and made a deal. Since then, we have made this place our home away from home.

What makes this cottage unique

There is so much to love about Cape Meares. The 4 miles of uncrowded beach, the drive up the bay, the birds singing as you walk past the lake on the way to the beach, the friendly neighbors, the bright beautiful stars on a clear nite, riding bikes on the spit and beyond, the tidepools if you're there when the tide is LOW, the deck, the wood stove, the great meals on the BBQ, walking forever on the beach or picking blackberries late in Summer. It's just a great place to get away from the craziness of being home.

A very comfortable and cozy beach retreat

  • 5 of 5
We had a very restful and quiet five nights at the Peptide. The furnishings are so thoughtful and interesting, the bed comfortable and the living areas roomy and airy. The kitchen is very well equipped and it was easy to cook full meals there. The washer and dryer came in handy. It's just a few blocks to the beautiful beach below Cape Meares. We hiked the Cape Lookout trail (4.5 miles), the hike from Bayocean Spit to the Jetty and back along the Tillamook Bay path (8.5 miles) and around the Cape Meares lighthouse and Giant Aspen trails. There's lots to do. Even though there is a TV there and lots of movies, we did not turn it on once. We look forward to returning to the Peptide in the future and will definitely recommend it to our friends.

Baby's First Trip to the Oregon Coast

Baby's First Trip to the Oregon Coast
  • 4 of 5
My wife and I rented the Peptide for a short weekend getaway with our infant son. This was his first trip to the Oregon coast, so we were looking for a place that would be quiet enough for him to get some rest but also close enough for us to walk to the beach. The Peptide fit the bill perfectly. The property's two bedrooms were cozy and quiet. The baby slept great, and we were able to listen to the waves from our window. During the daytime we took him on the short, 10-minute walk down to the beach, which is a long secluded spit that runs for several miles. Great for long, relaxing walks with our stroller. At night we made up our dinners in the kitchen, which is stocked with more supplies than any other VRBO property we've ever used. Very nice!

The only reason for my 4-star rating (rather than 5) is that Cape Meares is a bit of a drive from the nearest grocery store. If you're going to stay here, then you need to plan ahead for all of your meals and make the most of your grocery run back into the Safeway or Fred Meyer in Tillamook. Additionally, you'll need to bring trash bags, because the Peptide doesn't have trash service, so you'll be packing out what you take there.

This was a great place for us, and I can see staying at the Peptide again for its comfortable rooms, nice kitchen, and great location near the beach. I also want to mention that dealing with Sara, the owner, was a breeze!

Cape Meares is a treasure

  • 5 of 5
Peptide Cottage offers a comfortable, affordable nest while you explore the coast. We watched our son kayak on Lake Cape Meares as we sat on the porch deck. When the tide was low early one morning, we walked over to the Pacific and were astounded by the tide pools. Sunsets were spectacular and the beaches were never crowded. Cape Meares State Park looks like the forest primeval and smells so fresh. Fish and Wildlife volunteers taught us all about the birds nesting as we looked through their telescopes. And, Tillamook Dairy sells delicious ice cream cones.

Cute Cottage and Great Location

  • 5 of 5
This was our first time to this cozy beach cottage and Cape Meares. We will definitely go back. It was clean and tidy. The beds were very comfortable. The beach is a short walk, and is beautiful and uncrowded. The lake is right there, too, and we will definitely bring the kayaks next time. My husband is a big fisherman and found opportunities for fishing at Cape Meares Lake (trout) and Tillamook's North Jetty. We enjoyed a visit to the Lighthouse and the Cheese Factory. In all, an enjoyable trip and a great house for our small family.

Perfect for a quiet getaway!

  • 5 of 5
We just left the Peptide and I'm already planning our next trip! The area is quiet and off the beaten path - yet super easy access for exploring the coast. The beach down the road is a gem. We loved our stay - had everything we needed for our family of four, and we were super impressed with how comfortable the beds and linens were. Can't wait to return!

It was just what we wanted...

  • 5 of 5
We are very happy with our stay at The Peptide. The house was just as they represented in the ad and it had everything we needed. Check-in process was easy and in the end our deposit was returned timely. The location was quiet and private but also central and close to the attractions when we wanted to go that route. The beach down the street was wonderful for exploring, easy for our 4-year old to maneuver too and not crowded. People had previously commented on a slight musty smell so I was nervous about cleanliness but that was not an issue. The cabin was clean and tidy and just smelled like a seaside cabin typically does. Furniture was clean and linens/towels noticeably clean and of good quality. In a perfect world we would have enjoyed a screen on the front storm door or windows to allow for fresh airflow throughout but the kitchen and bedroom windows had screens and pulled fresh air through well enough so we have no complaints. It took my daughter a day to quit commenting on it but the yummy smell from the home cooked dinner did the trick. The only thing that could have made this the perfect ocean rental for us is if we didn't have to take our trash out with us at the end of the stay. In the future we would consider paying extra to have trash service since that was a bit of a nuisance but the overall price for this space made it worth our while. We would without a doubt return to this house and have already recommended it to our friends and family.

Map

Car: necessary

The Peptide is located in Cape Meares. Cape Meares is one of the 3 capes on the Scenic Route on the Oregon coast and sits on the south end of the Tillamook Bay. There are 4 miles of uncrowded beach to enjoy as you stroll, play or relax on on the shore. Fishing, biking, kayaking, canoeing, birdwatching and hiking are just some of the great activities to do while visiting CM and if you would like to venture into town (aprox. 7 miles), you may like to visit the Tillamook Cheese Factory, the Air Museum, the Blue Heron Cheese Factory and take a train ride on a Steam Engine from Garibaldi to Rockaway and back.

There are many species of birds who make Cape Meares and the Bay their home. Blue Herons are a common site, as well as Bald Eagles, Osprey and smaller birds such as Red Winged Black Birds. There have been sightings of deer, elk, porcupine, beaver, bear and more.

Cape Meares is a wooded area. There are no stores, restaurants or gas stations. It is a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. So if you are looking for a small town feel, come here and experience Cape Meares at the Peptide!
