A VERY SPECIAL PLACE... Wonderful family home with large decks and screened porch. Relax on 2 heavily wooded bayfront acres. The house has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths with a greatroom/kitchen. Beach. Bay. Also an Outside Shower! Pingpong table. New pier for fishing and crabbing. Secluded and private but only 15 minutes to all the action. Across the road from Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge, where you can hike trails, and enjoy the most beautiful white sandy beach!
We were specifically looking for 3 things:
1) an uncrowded, quiet place on the water
2) a place we could take our dogs
3) a great kitchen to cook & enjoy fresh seafood
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Hope to be back soon!!
We were very privileged to stay at this wonderful home on the Mobile Bay. We were welcomed by several pelicans who spent the month with us there, along with a blue heron. The tranquility of the property is priceless. There were so many areas where we could enjoy all that nature offered: the pier, the 2-tiered deck, the back screened in porch, and even strolls down the long, wooded driveway with our dog. And that's just the outside!
Inside the house, the open living/kitchen area offers a beautiful view of the bay, as does the master bedroom and one of the other bedrooms. It's a very clean and comfortable home away from home, and has everything you'd need for your stay. We cook a lot and the kitchen was very well stocked. A new experience, and real treat for us, was catching blue crabs off the pier, and enjoying the whole experience from the catching to feasting on the sweet crab meat. We made many trips to Bon Secour to Aquila, a seafood market right on the river where the boats come in with their catch. You have to try the Royal Red shrimp, and their fresh fish really was the freshest! Yum!
Melissa, the owner, was wonderful to deal with and very prompt in responding to our emails. It was hard to leave the house, but we hope to return in the future. We were so fortunate to have discovered this wonderful getaway. It's so peaceful and private, yet very close to Gulf Shores and all it has to offer. Most of the time we just stayed put and relished the gorgeous setting and counted our lucky stars! Speaking of stars, they'll take your breath away, the view is so spectacular there.
The beach is just a short drive away and very private. A rare find that we enjoyed tremendously.
Thank you, Melissa, for your kindness and sharing your special place with us.
Absolutely loved our stay in the woods on the bay! Wonderful mix of forest and bay side beauty. The porch lights were on when we arrived welcoming us to this beautiful home. The homeowner has done so much to make the guests feel at home. Comfortable, clean, and beautiful best describe this older, well loved home. Our days began and ended sitting on the deck. We spent many hours sitting, reading and watching the wildlife (the high boy adirondack chairs were our thrones). The gorgeous old oak trees with the Spanish moss are true treasures and the walking paths to the beach and the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge are perfect for a leisurely stroll. Owner was very helpful with any questions we had about the area, restaurants, beaches, groceries, and day trips. The home was completely stocked with all linens, utensils, and household supplies. My husband and I along with our two golden retrievers were reluctant to leave and would love to go back. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us. FYI, thank you for returning our deposit so promptly! It was waiting for us when we returned home.
We loved our " fish camp" vacation ! What a sweet house hidden in the trees ! We climbed trees, fished, crabbed, rode bikes and lounged on the pier. Owner is easy to communicate with also :)
Could not have been more perfect, just a great experience all the way around. Home owner was wonderful with communication and adaptable to request. The rental was more than we expected, the quietness and beauty of this property was a welcomed experience. Will definitely consider this property in the future!!
The little house on the bay was the perfect place for our annual family vacation. My grown children accompanied my husband and me to this peaceful haven for a week in August. The high point for me was sitting on the lovely back deck and watching the bay. Every day we witnessed dolphins cruising by, and one afternoon I was able to wile away 30 minutes watching a pod of dolphins playing in the distance. My children spent time on the very nearby beach every day, and one day we took the ferry to Dauphine Island to visit the estuarium there. Another day we hiked the trail to Alligator Lake. We enjoy cooking as a family, so we prepared breakfast and lunch each day in the wonderful kitchen and opted for dinner out at the nearby "Sassy Bass" or the myriad of restaurants in Gulf Shores. My son and daughter loved the location because it is away from the hoards of folks staying in the condos and surrounded by the wildlife refuge. My husband was up to watch the sunrise every day, and the fishing dock is the perfect place to watch the sunset. If you long for peace, this is the place!
I totally and completely enjoyed my stay. This was definitely far too much room for one person, but it was worth it and I will do it again. Wonderful house, quite, feeling of privacy and beautiful view of the bay. Pelicans diving, dolphins swimming by, crabs in the trap every day, catching flounder and just being lazy. Convenient to everything, close to nothing. Loved it and would recommend this property to everyone. Just leave me a week open next year. Thanks for having me Melissa.
