Photos and Description of the Hot Springs vacation cottage rental

Hike the Appalachian Trail and stop at Chapel View Cottage to rest comfortably in this cozy, well equipped cottage. Cool your heels on the stone and wood porch beneath the exterior ceiling fan, or come in from the cold and rain outside to warm-up inside.

Whether you arrive by hiking or driving, you can then leisurely stroll to the town of Hot Springs to enjoy fine dining, galleries, library and the spa located on the historic grounds of the old Warm Springs Hotel.

Spotlessly clean and 'green' inside, with custom woodwork throughout, the cottage features exuberant, sunny, fenced cottage gardens.

About Melanie Prater

We are a musician and artist married for 35 years. Husband is a native of western North Carolina from a large family of sons and a Vietnam veteran. Wife is from a large French-Irish family who has lived in several countries and traveled the world. We both make our living in Knoxville, Tennessee, as self-employed contractors and get over to Hot Springs as often as we can.

Melanie Prater purchased this cottage in 1996
Why Melanie Prater chose Hot Springs

On trips through the mountains many years ago we were captivated by the area of Warm/Hot Springs. We finally found a small place to renovate and have been here ever since. For many years our extended families and numerous friends were the main visitors. We are now delighted to add guests from all over the world to that number. Guestbooks in the cottage detail some of our visitors' experiences.

What makes this cottage unique

Known locally as 'Granny Cody's House,' today Chapel View is cozy, comfortable and authentic in every respect. The historic Jesuit Retreat House across the way from Chapel View is now under new management with the name of Laughing Heart Lodge. The people of Hot Springs welcome visitors and celebrate their community. The public library and elementary school are essential to the sustainability and charm of this good community.

Cozy cottage

My husband and I stayed in the north side and it was perfect. No TV was great! Lots of DVDs if needed but we just read books and hiked. Very clean and a great shower too. The bed was comfy and even tho there were no blinds on the windows we still slept in... The hikes helped I'm sure. Looked out the window and there was the AT! Ate at the smokey mountain diner and it was delicious. Hope we can make it back... Very relaxing.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know you enjoyed your stay. We had never thought about blinds for the windows in the bedroom because they look out on the beautiful mountains and trees and are so high in elevation that there is no concern about privacy.
But you are right to alert us that the light could rouse a sleepy traveler and so we'll look into adding them as an option. Like you, we suspect that most guests sleep so well that the dawning light does not wake them. Come back again and happy hiking!

If you are looking for a neat hideaway that is still close to Asheville, this is it! Literally steps away from the AT, this snug little cottage is all the privacy you could want! The owners have taken great care to maximize the space in essentially, what could be described as a duplex. There is a connecting door between the two rental spaces, which makes this great as a multi family rental, or simply as a romantic getaway. The description provided by the owner is completely accurate and I would highly recommend this rental!

Had a wonderful time! Great way to celebrate my birthday! Enjoyed Hot Springs--the town, the people, the nature, the trails, Max Patch, the tubs at Hot Springs Spa, the cabin! Can’t wait to come back and do it all again. Thanks so much.
