Photos and Description of the Kenya Coast vacation house rental 5 bedroom, house with 4 staff including cook near the beach.

Waridi House is located at the back of the village. It enjoys this position next to the dunes as you can see the sea from the roof terrace and access the beach easily over the sand dunes. The house is built in the local style and runs on it's own solar power and has it's own water well. It is very quiet and peaceful, with a lovely view of the sand dunes from every room. There is excellent local fish of all kinds caught fresh every day. The house is called Waridi House (Rose House) because it is next to the garden that the ladies tend who make the flower posies. We are on the Island of Lamu half a mile from the Kenyan coast. You can visit Lamu town by taking your own boat there and back. You can take a sunset evening sail on a dhow. The boat crew catch and BBQ fish for your lunch on the beach. There are no cars on the island creating a very peaceful atmosphere. You walk everywhere or catch a boat. It is a totally safe place and you can allow your children to run free.

Lamu Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as it is the oldest and best preserved Swahili living town in East Africa. Founded in the 14th Century, originally Lamu was one of the main Arabian trading routes. The locals practice a very tolerant form of the Muslim religion. Cars are not used as the streets are so narrow, it is best to explore on foot, by bike or on a donkey. You are never far from the beach which offers all water sports; you can go sea fishing or take a dhow for a romantic trip at sunset. The Lamu Museum is worth a visit, and so is the Lamu Fort, Riyadha Mosque or the Donkey Sanctuary. The coast is a conservation coast line and there is a lot of local interest in turtle conservation. There is also yoga, meditation and beauty treatments available which can be arranged in-house.
