|Property type||chateau / country house|
We own one of the nicest properties in Monteverde and are looking forward to share it with you!
We built our house in Monteverde with the goal of owing a second home that we could share with friends and family while relaxing in a beautiful garden in one of Costa Rica's most beautiful places.
The spacious cottage is fully equipped; has a great room with tall wood ceilings, a complete kitchen, dining table, and living room area that opens to a large window overlooking the forest.
The house was built following the local rustic architecture but it has been our vision and goal to have a cozy and unique house were one can relax after a long day hiking .
In addition to the house, we have built a wonderful private garden where you can see a large variety of birds.
We welcome you to stay here to taste nature at it's best.
Our family is originally from San Jose. For several years, we visited Monteverde and dreamed with having our own piece of heaven in the Costa Rican Cloud Forest. In 2007, we bought this property and in 2008 we built our first cabin. We now have 4 cabins/cottages in the property.
Andres Wiernik purchased this chateau / country house in 2007
We have almost one hectare (aprox 2.47 acres) of garden.
Our house has several features that distinguish this property from any other in the Monteverde area. We built our cottage for our personal use following traditional local architecture. This is an example of ecoturism at it's best. The property is located within walking distance of several restaurants, coffee shops, museums and the local cheese factory. We are located 5 minutes away from the main town (Santa Elena) where you can find a large variety of restaurants, gas station, banks, etc. We are also located 5 mins away from the Monteverde Cloud Forest National Park.
- Access to our private garden
- Bedrooms and bathrooms are cleaned every day with exception of Sundays and holidays (no extra fee).
- With advance notice, we can arrange all your tours while in the Monteverde area.
- We can help you with your travel arrangements in other locations of Costa Rica if necessary.
- We work closely with a rent a car agency in case you would like to rent a car while in Costa Rica.
- We offer wifi internet access
We stayed at Yerba Buena for a month in January/February and it was a perfect place. Our very comfortable 2 bedroom, 2 bath cabin gave us space to stretch out, cook meals and a great queen bed complete with an electric blanket in case the evenings got chilly. Our hosts couldn't have been more accommodating and welcoming. From arranging our dinner reservations the first night, driving us into town for a big grocery shop, to arranging tours and guides, they went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The grounds are beautiful, affording an oasis off the streets of Monte Verde to stroll, picnic and watch the exotic birds. We did not have a car and at first wondered if we were too far from town but with three excellent restaurants within a 5 minute walk - Tramonte, Stella's Bakery and Cabure- plus a small grocery store and coffee bar we never felt isolated or in lack of something. Did I forget to mention easy walking distance to two private reserves and the cheese/ice cream factory? The location provided access to the town of St. Elena, CPI Language Institute and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and a host of activities whether you want to zipline through the treetops, see the elusive Quetzal (we saw them twice!), grab a chai tea latte or hike through beautiful rain forest trails. We would highly recommend Yerba Buena whether you are a couple or a large family or group - the grounds can accommodate either scenario. So much nicer than being cooped up in a small hotel room especially if you are planning to stay for a couple of days. We will be back- this time we are thinking of bringing our entire extended family.
We stayed at Yerba Buena with our 3 daughters and their families: a party of 14 from ages 7 to 80 and had an unforgettable visit. The accommodations served everyone's desires from wonderful space for ultimate frisbee to comfortable corners to curl up with a book.
The proprietors helped us hire a cook for our dinners, and an evening at the neighboring Italian Tramonti restaurant was terrific. Grocery shopping was convenient for preparing meals. They also helped arrange for an 18 passenger van that took us from the San Jose airport to Yerba Buena, and later from Yerba Buena to the beach.
The adventures from Yerba Buena were extraordinary: Zip lines and Tarzan swings like none we had ever imagined; walks into the jungle at night and during the day with a wonderful guide introducing us to the marvels of the cloud forest environment - huge tarantulas, sloths, fascinating snakes and innumerable surprises. We went to a lecture at the Monteverde Institute and learned a lot about the history and background of Monteverde and the Cloud Forest. The hosts Regina and Saul were wonderful looking after our needs and desires.
We look forward to returning one day to Monte Verde and definitely staying again at Yerba Buena
We were fortunate to meet owners Regina and Saul upon our check-in at this amazing property. They made us feel completely welcome and at home and our children were immediately drawn to them and their dog, Echo, as well as Max, the caretaker's dog. We had visited Monteverde before and knew of its amazing wildlife and serenity, but had a completely different experience this time because of Yerba Buena. The grounds are beautiful and have little trails and secret spots all around. When we sought a break from our sight-seeing, our kids loved running around the property. It is close to Stella's Bakery, Curi-Cancha Reserve, the cheese factory and delicious Tramonti Restaurant. Regina recommended an amazing guide, who took us on a day hike and a night hike. On our guided hikes saw many species of birds (including tucans and mot mots), as well as a sloth, porcupine, snakes, kinkajou, walking sticks, and much more. We drank our morning coffee and birded from the large picture window of cabin #1. The cabin's kitchen was the best equipped of any of our accommodations on our Costa Rica trip. We made breakfast every morning and two dinners in our four-night stay. Hernan is the on-site caretaker - he is so helpful and sweet. He even made walking sticks for our two kids! I am sure we will return to Monteverde one day, in which case we will surely hope to stay at this amazing home again.
My extended family stayed in two of the Yerba Buena cabins offered by this owner from Dec. 27th thru 30th, 2013. The cabins were both very clean, comfortable, and well-mainted offering many amenities. Our pre-teen and teenage children loved exploring the grounds and talking with the owners. Regina and Saul were both so helpful in recommending restaurants and making our reservations as well as making reservations for all the tours we went on-Cloud Forest Reserve hike, Night hike, Selvatura Zip Lining, & El Trapiche coffee plantation tour. They also set us up with private guides for the Cloud Forest Reserve and a night hike, which made both experiences much more worthwhile. We enjoyed eating lunch and a breakfast at Stella's and lunch at CASEM, as well as dinner at Tramanti, all within walking distance of Yerbabuena. Also recommended was Trio in the town of St. Elena, also very good. Also a benefit to Yerbabuena is the grocery store within walking distance. I would highly recommend this property for rental in the Monteverde, Costa Rica area!
My husband and I rented the studio last August during a 1 1/2 week trip to Costa Rica (Monteverde + Manuel Antonio).
First, the people: Regina and Andres (the owner and her son) are so wonderful and kind. They literally planned our whole trip for us, recommending guides, activities and restaurants and then booked it for us! When our luggage was lost and had to be delivered the next day, Regina not only negotiated the directions she gave me her shoes to wear because I didn't have any boots for our ATV ride. We were so blown away by their thoughtfulness and amount of effort they put into our stay.
Second, the property. You are within walking distance to everything in Monteverde, but buffered from the street by a hand built(!) privacy fence that surrounds the property. Inside the fence are several small cabins, a lovely vegetable garden and gorgeous landscaping. It was the most charming place we have ever stayed in. The studio cabin is perfectly cozy and stocked with all the necessities (fridge! coffee maker!) and has a lovely little porch to watch the sunset.
Third, the town. Monteverde was our perfect vacation spot. A mountain town that has all the amenities to make life easy and carefree (they'll come pick you up for ziplining in a little shuttle, there is a little shop to buy necessities in Santa Elena, several restaurants) without feeling touristy. We did an ATV ride, explored the cloudforest, went ziplining and hiked to San Luis Waterfall. For us, it was a great mix of new experiences and awe-inspiring moments.
We drove to Monteverde from the airport (we had a second destination in Manuel Antonio). It was more expensive than public transit but worth it. It is important to point out that although most of trip was a breeze it is a bumpy road up to Monteverde. Just plan to drive during the day and take it easy.
Set atop the spine of Costa Rica’s continental divide, Monteverde is a world above the coastal towns that dot the country's famous shoreline. It is a place of cloud forests and coffee plantations, monkeys, mist, and friendly locals.
Due to its high altitude – some 4,662 ft (1,440 m) above sea level – Monteverde is privileged to receive a steady supply of clouds and the life-giving moisture that they contain. This moisture, often in the form of fog, catches on the branches of the tallest trees and drips down to the other organisms below. This helps to support a complex and far-reaching ecosystem, one that harbors over 100 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, tens of thousands of insect species, and over 2,500 varieties of plants, 420 of which are orchids alone.
Visitors can explore this internationally recognized environment from trails and trams, along canopy tours or inside museums.
We welcome you to our property and advice you to plan on spending at least a few days to adventure through this verdant and mountainous world. PURA VIDA!
