The dock provides easy access to the water. A bird watching paradise, we regularly see bald eagles, all varieties of waterfowl, as well as song and beach birds. The end of the dock is perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning, watching fish, turtles, otters playing...and then awesome Lake Michigan sunsets in the evening. Long beach-walks looking for petoskey stones and Leland blues are another favorite passtime. Our lakefront home is halfway between the harbor towns of Leland and Northport. Unique shops and galleries, dining and recreation are a short scenic drive away. Traverse City is a quick 35-minute drive over winding county roads bordered by orchards and vineyards. This quiet and peaceful setting is easily accessible to state and conservancy hiking trails, biking, fishing, boating, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Leelanau County is ideal for outdoor recreation or just plain sitting and relaxing. No smoking and no pets. And please note the guest limit in our home is 10, regardless of age.
This home holds volumes of precious family memories. All of us have special times here with our individual families, extended families, and friends. 'Girls week' at Christmas and in the summer draws 3 generations of moms-daughters-cousins for boating, hiking, cooking and general relaxing together. Couples weekends are also a treat as we frequently entertain friends for an activity and a meal.

Our parents attended The Leelanau School (near The Homestead in Glen Arbor) in the 1940's when Leelanau County was a remote and hidden jewel. As our family grew up we visited Glen Arbor for vacations and then attended camp at Leelanau-Kohahna now located on Pyramid Point - just down the shore. The county has been 'second home' for three generations now but remains 'first' in our hearts. Our home on 'Big Blue' is a true retreat where peace and tranquility abides. For those of us who enjoy 'garden therapy' we have a large and lovely place to commune with the soil and flowering plants. Our home is located on a certified 'Natural Beauty Road' just a 2-mile walk from a favorite local bar & grill on M-22 - the now famous state highway that winds its way around the perimeter of Leelanau County. Mom and Dad fell in love with this place because it was a bit off the beaten track of the tourist crowd which tends to stay closer to the National Park, and it offered a peaceful and quiet retreat.
The unique architectural design of this home combined with the sense of seclusion yet convenient distance from both Northport and Leland (10 mins either direction) make this place perfect for extended stays. It is a family home - not just a typical vacation rental property - and offers the comforts and conveniences of a year-round home. Come and enjoy!
Beautiful Leelanau County - 'land of delight' - is home to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, recently voted as the most beautiful place in America by viewers of Good Morning America. A vacation destination for folks of all ages, Leelanau County offers Golf Courses with spectacular views, Conservancy and State Park hiking trails, unlimited water sports recreation, art galleries, vinyards & wineries, fine and casual dining, cultural events, and spectacular sightseeing.
