The Lot Valley is south of the Dordogne and North of the Gers near the rivers Lot, Dordogne, Tarn and Garonne in a beautiful, unspoilt and temperate area of South West France. This open countryside of gentle hills and valleys provides a sense of freedom in green fields, oak forests, vineyards, farmland & charming historical hill-top Bastide towns. Visiting the Lot valley, where there are few main roads and little traffic, takes you back to a rural England of 30 years ago yet with all things French that so many of us dream of. We are about 580 miles from Calais/Le Havre and 430 miles from St Malo. Cherbourg extends the drive by 2 or 3 hours. The area is steeped in history having been part of the battlefield of the Hundred Years War. Many of the castles, villages and towns were built by the English (Aquitaine being British in the 13Th Century on the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitane to Henry II).
