Decent Budget Rental
The location is great - right across from beach access and walking distance to the beautiful new grocery store. There were plenty of pots, pans, dishes, glasses, etc. Though it appeared clean on the surface, the unit was a bit grimy. Some Clorox wipes took care of most of that. The linens didn't really have a fresh smell. It could be that no one has used the unit in some time, but the towels and sheets just didn't have the freshly cleaned feel that other rentals I've stayed in have had. The bathroom is small, clean and perfectly functional. Shower has plenty of hot water and good pressure. Upon arrival, I found there to be no 'starter' roll of toilet paper. I wouldn't expect toilet paper to be supplied for the duration of my stay, but a starter roll, would have been a nice courtesy. I left several rolls behind for the next guest. King-sized bed was very comfortable. Huge closet and a dresser for all of my things. I found an ironing board, but no iron and I looked everywhere for it. The kitchen is tiny, but it serves the needs of a vacationing single person or couple just fine. It's worth a mention that there is no ice maker in the freezer. That's not a criticism - just something to be aware of. If you're like me and enjoy ice in your drinks, you'll want to pick up a bag at the store. Two ice trays couldn't keep up with me. The unit is very close to Gulf of Mexico Drive and it's on the ground floor. During daylight hours and into the early evening, this is a fairly busy road and there is a lot of road noise, even with the windows closed. The unit is close to the sidewalk and pedestrians have a clear view into the unit at night. I mention this because the vertical blinds on the sliding glass door were broken. They didn't have a chain to close them and when I tried to close them manually, one panel at a time, I discovered that several were missing. That first night, I felt like I was on display to anyone who walked by. When I emailed the owner, she offered to reimburse me if I wanted to pick up some blinds from the local hardware store and install them. Instead, I just draped a sheet over the window at night. Not the classiest look, but it served a purpose. I also had to replace the battery in the smoke detector because it started chirping at 5am one day during my stay. It's a great location at a value price. As long as you understand that it's a budget rental, you will enjoy your stay as I did.
Owner's Response: Thank You for the review we are always looking for ways to improve our condo. I would just like to let you know we were unaware of the blinds not working, the tenants before you must have broken the draw string without alerting us. We are in the process of replacing the blinds with Panel tracks that provide complete privacy. We have also been in contact with our cleaning crew on an explanation why the unit was a bit grimy because the condo does get cleaned from top to bottom each time a renter leaves but we are a pet-friendly condo (one of the only ones on the island)so possibly the cleaning crew could have done a better job, that will be corrected.
An iron board and iron should be in the condo – if a tenant made off with the iron we would definitely replace that. Thank you for making us aware.
I do have to disagree about the unit being noisy – yes it is located near Gulf of Mexico Drive but with the sliding doors shut I have never heard traffic noise maybe if you are just sitting in the living room with the TV off you can hear the cars go by but not noisy.
If you would like to stay with us again – I can offer you a 25% discount for your inconvenience, We definitely want all of our tenants leaving happy and returning back to us.
