Nestling in the fells of Central Lapland the unspoilt village of Luosto lies 90 minutes north of the Arctic Circle and offers an intimate encounter with the wilderness of Lapland. First class activities and accommodation are coupled with a stunning natural environment. The local ski slopes are great for beginners and will provide good entertainment for more experienced skiers. There is a range of activities on offer depending on the season and a selection of restaurants and hotels offering evening entertainment

Kelo Logs : Gregory Log cabins have been hand crafted from silver grey Kelo logs (dead standing pine trees) . The Trees grow very slowly producing high density wood with great strength and endurance. When they die they remain standing for many years while the severe polar climate slowly makes the pine wood strong like a stone, A superb eco building material with excellent insulation properties which will not shrink. These beautiful logs retain a deep orange colour inside whilst gently releasing their pine fragrance to produce a very comfortable natural, relaxing living environment.

From Rovaniemi there is a possibility to continue to Pyhä-Luosto region by SkiBus, taxi or by renting a car. Driving to Pyhä-Luosto takes about 90 minutes.

By SkiBus -

There is Pyhä-Luosto’s own SkiBus that transports holidaymakers to the area year round. During high season the bus drives four times a day and during lower season once a day.

By Train -

Travelling to Rovaniemi from southern Finland (10-12 hours) is easy, also with a car-carrier train. There are bus connections from both railway station (Rovaniemi and Kemijärvi) to Pyhä-Luosto (SkiBus), which leave immediately following the arrival of the train.

Other Activities: cross country skiing, snow mobile safari.

Winter holiday in the Gregory log cabin C

Hello

My girlfriend and I stayed one lovely week end of November in the Gregory C cabin. The apartment is beautiful, well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. It's a romantic cabin, very clean and of high standard. We were lucky that Luosto got snow just two days before we arrived. The surrounding is great for extended walks. People in Luosto, which is of 20 min walking distance, are very friendly. The grocery store is ok, you get all you need for a one week vacation. The amnestyt spa is not worth the entrance, the sauna in the cabin is much more convenient. We got some excellent views of the surrounding mountains/hills, the light is very special during these days. Also a couple of rendeers crossed our ways multiple times. Once we also got the pleasure to see an extraordinary aurora borealis (green and violet in colors). Unfortunately, the snow was not enough for cross-country skiing, but I am convinced that the slopes are great. We also did not ski either, Switzerland might be much better for that.

All in all it was an excellent holiday and the Gregory cabins are recommendable for everybody. The administration is very friendly and uncomplicated. We got a pick-up from the hotel, which worked out perfectly well.

Very nice and comfortable cabin!!

Our holiday in Luosto in cabin Gregory C was fantastic! The cabin was very comfortable! Very good atmosphere, great fireplace with plenty of wood, good sauna and a well equiped kitchen.
The first day we found the stairs to the loft a bit scary for our kids (6 and 8 years old), but they got used to it very quickly.
Recommended for:  Adventure Seekers, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

We had an uneventful flight and the Ski Bus dropped us off within easy walking distance with our suitcases. The cabin was clean, warm, very comfortable with a lovely open fire and a supply of logs outside - we thought it was very well equipped everything we needed was there. We thoroughly enjoyed the fire, sauna and wet room. On arrival in addition to the milk, bread and butter spread requested we had sausages, eggs, meat, cakes, etc. all from the local shop. We were approx one mile from the hotel, restaurants and shops, again everything we needed. We were very impressed with the quietness of the area and the lovely walks. The beautiful ancient forest we walked through was great and we were fortunate enough to see 2 white reindeer, 2 Siberian squirrels and lots of different birds. We were also fascinated by the different colours and variety of fungi and litchen. As our visit was in the autumn we were able to pick and enjoy the wild blueberries which grew everywhere. Another walking trip too us to the local Amethyst mine where we found the guide to be very knowledgeable and we had a dig to find our own gems. The scenery was wonderful with the autumn colours and for anyone who want a very relaxing and quiet but interesting holiday we would certainly recommend it.
