Overview

Santa Cruz Studio Rental Photos and Description

136 Younger Way is located atop Santa Cruz's Beach Hill, an easy downhill stroll to the Pacific Ocean, Main Beach volleyball courts, the historic Santa Cruz Wharf and the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Surfers and boogie boarders are just minutes away from Cowell’s (beginner waves) and Steamer Lane (expert waves). Explore downtown shops, restaurants and coffee shops which are easily accessible by a 10 minute walk. There are endless other recreational options in Santa Cruz County including mountain biking, hiking, sailing, kayaking and scenic trains through redwood forests.

The guest cottage is a completely renovated (2012) studio with one bath and kitchenette, located on the same property as a Craftsman style home. High ceilings allow for an open feel within the studio cottage. Enjoy the small deck area outside and shared BBQ with the main house on the property.

This cottage is a relaxing getaway and perfect retreat. The property lies on a quiet one way residential street occupied almost solely by year round residents.

If you need more space, you can also view the VRBO listing for the main home - VRBO listing #413289. We live in the main house as our primary residence, but rent it during the summer months, holidays, and some weekends.

About Jodi Mulder

We moved to Santa Cruz in July 2011 from Chicago. It's been quite a culture shift; but we love it, we love the relaxed and friendly culture of Santa Cruz, we really think there's no place like it and we have traveled all over the world. We've been married 16 years and love sharing new experiences We've traveled to 41 countries together and have a passion for social justice issues; both globally and locally. Chad is currently pursuing a socially minded start up company focused on job creation in Rwanda and Jodi works as a psychotherapist at UCSC's Counseling & Psychological Services. Our boys love living in Santa Cruz; playing at the beach, soccer at Depot Park, or riding their scooters at the Bike Park.

Jodi Mulder purchased this studio in 2011

Why Jodi Mulder chose Santa Cruz

We took a 12 week sabbatical in 2009; volunteering for a fair trade retailer who was located in Santa Cruz. We spent 6 weeks in Santa Cruz and 6 weeks in East Africa. After returning home to Chicago, we decided to pursue a different journey in life, sold our home in and in time decided we wanted Santa Cruz to be our new home. We love the relaxed neighborhood feel up on Beach Hill, it's so close to all the action, but being on a one way street keeps it quiet and relaxed!

We decided to down size when we moved to Santa Cruz, and we loved the Craftsman architecture of this home and the outdoor spaces. We converted the single stall garage into a cottage unit by adding a small addition on the side. We wanted a place for grandparents and friends from the midwest to stay when they came to visit. All of our guests have loved the little cottage.

What makes this studio unique

Relaxation and fun are the two things we love about living at 136 Younger Way. We can stroll down to the beach for 30 minutes, hop on our bikes for some boogie boarding fun, or relax at home listening to the summer beach concerts.

This little studio cottage is small, but has everything you need for a comfortable stay!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I drove from Utah for a much needed getaway. We absolutely loved this cottage! It was perfect for 2 and had everything you need. We were only a couple blocks from the beach and close to many restaurants so it was a prime location. It had so much more character than a hotel! We did not get to meet Chad or Jodi but they left a welcome book with detailed instructions on everything we needed. It was a great vacation spot and we would love to return! Thank you for sharing your great cottage Chad and Jodi!

Great Studio w/Kitchenette in the Heart of Santa Cruz

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the studio for 2 nights. The location was perfectly centered within short walks of the boardwalk and downtown Santa Cruz. The location felt very safe especially with the locked gate on the property. If you do walk downtown be aware of homeless/transient folks lingering around-common sense. We found a parking spot very easily. We walked everywhere with the exception of visiting UCSC and Henry Cowell State Park. The cottage was SPOTLESS-very clean!Plenty of towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were provided. Although we didn't use any, the owners were very kind to provide coffee beans with a grinder and french press. There were also tea bags if you don't prefer coffee. There is also a full sink, small fridge and plenty of kitchen tools, dishes, and utensils available for use (we were especially grateful for the wine opener!).Because we spent the majority of our time outside of the cottage, the size was perfect for the two of us.The mattress was a tad uncomfortable, but the neighborhood was VERY quiet and we slept great both nights! We recommend Linda's Sea Breeze Cafe for breakfast,Pizza My Heart downtown for dinner,Penny Ice Creamery for a scoop of delicious homemade ice cream! We never had the opportunity to meet the owners, but Jodi was very quick with email communication and very helpful with any questions I had.We had a great stay and would definitely stay at this property again or recommend to family/friends should the occasion arise!

This was a really cute and VERY clean, updated unit. It was small, about the size of a hotel room, but we knew that before booking. The owners were very helpful and gave us perfect instructions. It was very stormy the days we visited, so thankfully the internet service worked perfectly, since there is no TV provided. However, even the rough weather was pretty exciting, as we could walk the 3 or 4 blocks down to the pier and have meals and watch the high surf. Jodi gave us a couple of other options for things to do.

Great Location to Experience Santa Cruz

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. The location is great, it's walkable to both the wharf and downtown areas. It provided us a great central location to explore the surrounding area (Big Basin, Ano Nuevo, etc).

The cottage itself was very comfortable and clean, and it had everything we needed for having breakfast and tea. The check-in and check-out procedures were a breeze, and the owner was very friendly in our communication.

Should our travels bring us back to Santa Cruz, we will definitely book again.

Perfect Location in Santa Cruz

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. Had a little hiccup when we arrived just after 3:00 on check-in date (cleaners hadn't arrived yet so previous renters towels & sheets were on the floor) but I called the owner and got a response within a few minutes. We went out for a quick bite and by the time we got back we were in ship-shape! Cute little studio, had what we needed for our stay-cation (we live just over the hill). We had our 8 year old daughter with us and there was room to set up her twin airbed at the foot of our bed. So much nicer than staying in a hotel room to have the kitchenette. And very quiet at night, so we could sleep after a long day of Boardwalk and beach activities. Street parking was perfect, we could park just a few feet away. The walk down the hill into downtown was easy, too. It really is perfectly located. Would definitely book again!

Cottage was exactly as described, pictures were so helpful & accurate.

We enjoyed cottage. It was very conveniently located and totally met our needs that weekend. We did not need transportation @ that location, as we walked everywhere- beach, coffee shops, restaurants, even a market! It was a very quiet place, in fact a little too quiet, as there was no radio/cd (no TV was great!). The owners were great to respond to our inquiry e-mails, even phone messages.
