This beautiful one bedroom home lies in the heart of the tropical district of Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii. Situated in Leilani Estates, one of the more upscale communities in the area, this home features an entire acre of land on which to relax, unwind and get away from it all. Smell the plumeria, gaze upon the hundreds of wild orchids surrounding the property, and let the tropical birds welcome you with their song.
Then, when you're good and rested, check out the wonderful nearby places to visit. Start with Old Pahoa Town, with 11 multi-national restaurants to choose from and an extremely well stocked Natural Foods store. Expand to the surrounding Puna district and visit the world famous Kapoho snorkeling ponds, the Red Road to Kalapana and its natural hot ponds (fed by the island's volcanic activity), and Lava Tree State park.
Within an hour or so you could be in lovely Volcano, situated near the rim of the Kilauea Crater and on your way to viewing the ongoing lava activity in Volcano National Park (ongoing for 20 plus years!).
If you ever feel the need to leave the Puna district (why leave paradise?), there's plenty more to see. Waimea town, social center of the famous Parker Ranch, Kailua-Kona and it's shopping meccas, Kawi and gorgeous scenery, arts and crafts that it has to offer. Waterfalls, helicopter rides, para-sailing, hiking, kayaking, Hamakua Coast...
I am a former New York actor turned computer programmer. Having grown up on Oahu, I have always had emotional ties with the islands. In 2003, I was fortunate to be able to acquire the house and an additional 15 acres in nearby Pahoa. I am very interested in sustainable living. The house already uses rainwater and it is heated by the sun. The next step will be PV solar panels and an organic garden.
Tim Jeffryes purchased this house in 2003
Pahoa is the last affordable place in the Hawaiian islands. It is also very quiet, rural and far from the maddening crowd. If you're a tourist that likes to get away from all the tourists, the is the place to be.
The house is in a very quiet neighborhood and it is set back from the road 2/3 of the length of the lot. As such, you have a nice feeling of being away from it all. The house is also situation in a section of Leilani Estates that had a big fire several years ago. As such, it is not as lush and other parts of Leilani and therefore has fewer mosquitos and more sunshine.
An adorable little house on a very private beautiful piece of land. The house is very light and bright! When the sun came out (which is not every day there!) everything just sparkled. The internet worked fine, just as I'd been promised (working vacation). It was clean and quiet. Fan over the bed kept it nice and comfortable - it was even too cool at times! I loved sitting in the lounge chairs on the front "stoop" and reading, to only the sounds of birds. When we found the can opener was broken, the manager came right by with a new one. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.
This little home was perfect for us as we prepared for our daughter, who lives in the area, to be married. It served our needs well, was quiet and was well-stocked. The owner, Tim, was a pleasure to work with. I would recommend this home without hesitation.
this was a working vacation for my husband and myself, as we have purchased property just up the street. So this little house gave us a good indication of what we can expect when we move here, which we will do so soon. We saw everything we wanted to see and swam with the fish, tried to surf, etc. The house was tidy and I could find just about everything, even to zip lock bags and tape, even a boogey board came in handy. Thanks, Tim.
We had a wonderful time here. Loved explroing the Puna District. Great location near the the Lava Trees and the beautiful tide pools. The place was clean and well cared for and had all the amenities anyone would need. All communication with the owner and cartaker was easy and suited our needs. We would come back and stay again.
Arrived at this fabulous rental which is not visible from the street. It was provided privacy and comfort. Built-in drawers in the bedroom provided lots of room for clothing. Closet was excellent size. Kitchen was well equipped and is open concept with the dining room and living room. Contact with the owner was pleasant as was personal call from the caretaker of the property to see how we were doing. I recommend this location for pretty much any age but best suits single person or a couple. There is a futon bed sofa should you have overnight guest or 1 extra person in your party. If it isn't booked the next time I travel there, I will definitely rent it again.
We stayed 2 nights at this great house in outside of Pahoa. The house was stocked with beach towels, boogie board, and all the basics. The farmers market on Sunday at Maku'u was a short 10 min drive and downtown Pahoa is only 5 miles. This was a great location to be close to the tidepools, warm pool, and lava viewing. The house has several large french doors and is alll screen which makes for a great outdoor living experience. I would rent this place again, no question!
