After visiting with family many years decided to build a log home with acres to get the true feel of the 'up north' experience! After going to the area more than 25 years-still have things to do that are unique and ever rewarding. Whether its watching the deer from the front porch, the festivals, fairs and art shows. The nature areas and beaches-i still have many things yet to do. Never the same trip twice!
Joan DaSilva purchased this cabin in 2001
Near enough yet so far!!!!
Everything you could desire is less than an hour away!!!! Day trips to Traverse City, Charlevoix, Petosky, Bay Harbour, schuss mountain, shanty creek, harbor springs, crystal mountain, Alden, Elk rapids, & the sand dunes are amazing. And even one of the last remaining drive inn movie theaters also not to far away!
We really enjoyed our stay! With views of the lake, surrounded by trees and nature, a good balance of relaxation and activities. Many villages and towns to keep you as busy as you care to be -yet return for sunset or a cookout on the deck and feel a million miles from anywhere. Rent a pontoon on the lake (a must)the sandbar is breathtakingly carribean blue. Visit the town of Alden by wate,r then go to Dockside waterfront restaurant on Clam river for casual dining, and watch all the boat activity while dining on the outside deck-with a small beach to cool off after dinner. Loved it!
Just returned from a New Years weekend celebration at this great property. While we were not able to enjoy many of the outdoor activities (Golf, Water sports, Etc.) we still had a wonderful time. What a fantastic view! Many nice comfort features - felt right at home. Travers City is just a short drive away and offers something for everyone in the group.
We had a great time at the beautiful cabin just minutes from Torch Lake. We have a rather large extended family and we all fit very comfortably. The only complaint we had was that the downstairs toilet did not refill on it's own so we kept pitchers of water next to the toilet. The owner tried to get a plumber out but that didn't happen. The house was clean and inviting and the views were absolutely breath taking. My one suggestion would be to get better sheets and blankets on the beds to be more hotel like. I know I look forward to that and it was kind of missing in the cabin. All in all, we had a great stay and will probably be back again with our extended family next summer!
We recently stayed at this home and it is an absolutely beautiful home and location. The only things I think would have improved our stay are minor compaired to the quality of other rental properties we have seen.
-grass should be mowed to help cut down on mosquitoes
-Towles were very rough until we washed them ourselves with fabric softener
-needs a spring cleaning for celing fans and cobwebs on the very high ceilings
-most screens have holes or are missing, with no A/c it's essential to be able to open windows (we were able to open enough to feel comfortable but could be an issue if more are damaged)
-seems to be a power issue in the basement.. We couldn't get some lights or outlets to work.
-Listing mentioned hot tub.. I wonder if there used to be one or if it is referring to the jacuzzi (bath tub) in the master bedroom. (?)
As I said... These things really were minor.. We loved the house and the owner was very friendly when I talked to her.
We would absolutely stay there again!
House was just as pictured."Wraparound deck" is exaggerating it--main deck is on two sides of house 270 degrees of view; two smaller decks/porches allow for the 360 degree view. Driveway is a little rough. Two sunrises were beautiful. Sunsets and the other mornings were cloudy. Tree color was wonderful -- lucky for us a week to two weeks behind normal. House was very clean. The screen door a couple others mentioned has been removed so that is not a problem anymore. King's Triple Berry Pie was wonderful. Good location for going both to Traverse City and north to Charlevoix and Petoskey.
My wife and I spent a much needed three day weekend for our 40th anniversary. Everything was more than adequate and we were able to relax and enjoy this beautiful home and the surrounding area. Joan was very helpful and patient even when we thought we were going to have to cancel our reservation. We are looking forward to staying here again.
I just wanted to thank Joan. She was so flexible with our last mi ute decision to visit Torch Lake. The home was beautiful and fun for my kids to explore. The views were gorgeous. Torch Lake is right in the middle of everything. We loved Elk Rapids and enjoyed Joan's suggestions of where to eat and shop. We took day trips to Sleeping Bear and Harbor Springs, and we loved all the farmers markets nearby. Thank you! Your home made our trip so much more memorable!
